The Patrick Polly Swooshball Challenge Copyright (c) Candelia AB 1996 --------------------------------------- The Patrick Polly Swooshball Challenge is all about hitting the targets behind your opponent’s back. The target in the middle is worth ten points, and the ones on the side are worth five points. At the centre of the court, there is a magnetic field. When the ball gets close to one of its "maxpoints" it changes direction. If your aim is really good, you can use this to your advantage. Starting the game Insert the CD, double-click on the CD icon and then on the "Swoosh.exe" file. The game runs on Windows 95 and cannot be used with MS-DOS. The Patrick Polly Swooshball Challenge also requires Microsoft DirectX. If this is not already installed in you computer it will be automatically installed by running the "Setup.exe" program. Just follow the instructions on the screen. Before the game begins, an introductory sequence appears on your screen. If you do not want to go through the introduction, press the Space Bar which takes you directly to the menu. The match starts when you press "start game". Menu You use the menu to carry out the necessary installations so that the game works the way you want it to. This includes how many points the game will be played to. If you choose "1 player" you will be playing against your computer opponent, and you choose the level of difficulty. If you have a slow computer you can choose "low detail" to make the game smoother to play. (Tip: If you think that the volume on the sound effects is too low compared to the CD volume, you can try changing the sound settings under the Volume Control Panel in Windows 95.) Normal shot Player 1 serves a normal shot by using the minus button (see below). An arrow indicates the balls' direction. A normal shot is quite loose, but can on the other hand be played when the player is moving. This is a big advantage. If you move the player to the left or right while hitting the ball, you can direct it in the opposite direction. You can also get a little more power behind your shots by putting your player just enough distance away laterally when you hit the ball. No doubt you will get to learn this. When the ball hits one of the targets it is shown in the close-up. The player who wins the points wins the serve. Charge shot Once you have learned the basics, you can begin to play charge shots, which are played with much more power than normal shots. Your player will stand still while you are loading up the power. The longer you hold down the button, the more power you will get. A power meter shows you how much power you have put into the shot. When you release the button, the player hits the shot.
