The installation program will guide you through all of the steps necessary to install Space Empires III. If you encounter any problems, please send a detailed report of your problems to malfador@crl.com. TROUBLESHOOTING: 1. Space Empires III will not install properly. The installation for Space Empires III requires at least 10 megabytes of free space. The game takes up 5 megabytes, but the installer needs some extra space to work in. Once you have freed up that much space on your hard drive, reboot your machine. Make sure no other programs are running and try the installation program again. If this doesn't work, your download may be corrupted. Try redownloading. 2. Space Empires III crashes sometimes for no reason. Try the following: a. Stop all other running programs. b. Make sure you have at least 4 megabytes of free RAM. c. Under the File Menu select Machine Options, and turn sound off. d. Restart your computer fresh. 3. The windows in Space Empires III only take up a small portion of the main Tactical Window. From the main menu, select Windows/Arrange. Select the resolution you are currently running in (you can find this out by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties, and looking at the Settings tab). 4. The Space Empires III screen colors are strange. Space Empires III must be run in at least 256 colors. You can find out what mode you are running in by right-clicking on the desktop and selecting Properties, and looking at the Settings tab. The Color Palette selection needs to be 256 Color or higher. (The game runs best in High Color 16-bit or better.) 5. When I switch to another window and then switch back to Space Empires III, the colors change. If you are running in 256 colors, then Windows has to adjust the palette for each program that is running. The other program you were looking at must have different colors than the ones used in Space Empires III. You can fix this problem by shutting down the other program. If the colors in Space Empires III are still strange, you should shut the game down and restart it. Also be sure to shutdown any other programs that are running. 6. I start the game but I can't figure out how to play. From the Starting Window, select the Tutorial. It will take you through a number of turns and introduce you to all of the windows you will be using. 7. I have questions that aren't answered in the help file. You can come and visit our WEB site which has a list of all of the latest questions that we've been asked. If you don't find it, then send us your question via email. Thanks for playing Space Empires III!
