                 USING PKUNZIP.EXE

             3. Go to Windows. Pull up the File Manager
Go to 'File', then pull down 'Run'.
                 Filename is C:\chess\chess.exe

             4. The program will come up on the screen
copy the Icon to any program or game group
                 that you're used to.

             RUNNING THE PROGRAM:

             1. FIRST THING TO DO IS SET UP COMMUNICATIONS
PARAMETER ON THE MENU AND TYPE IN YOUR
OPPONENTS PHONE NUMBER. (Use the communications
settings of No parity, 8 bits ,1 stop bit,)

Now you are ready to begin your game. Go to
the menu and choose 'New' game or you
can load an old game that you've saved.

             2. Choose white if you're the calling party.
If you're being called by the White Player,
obviously you will play black. To be called
all you have to do is load the Chess game
and wait for the caller to call you. This
initiates the game and black's game clock
                 will begin.

             3. Make your first move. You'll notice your
                 time clock begins to move.

Optionally, you may want to set a time limit
of one hour or two or even half an hour. It's
                 up to you.

If you do set a time limit; The person who is ahead, by point score of pieces captured, wins.

             5. After you have made your move and you are
satisfied that it is the move you want to
transmit to your opponent, go to the menu
and choose, 'COMMIT MOVE'. This will save
your move, PREVENT YOU FROM TAKING IT BACK,
AND TRANSMIT IT TO YOUR OPPONENT.

             6. You want to be very certain of your move
before you choose 'Commit Move' because at
this point, you cannot take back a move. Up
to this point you can take back as many moves
as you like. Commit Move saves the move so
that it can be transmitted to the opponent
over the phone line or the Network.

             7. That's it. Black will then move and when he
chooses to 'Commit Move', the modem will dial
the White Player and black's clock will stop
and as soon as White receives Black's move,
                 his clock will start.

             Enjoy it. And REMEMBER.

There is a National Modem Tournament you can enter
to win as much as $700,000 in cash. Read the
next chapter about the tournament for full details.
