                              INVADED ][ v2.1
Written by: Greg "Montana Man" Velichansky.

The original INVADED was written in Turbo C 2.0
I have now upgraded to Borland C++ 2.0

Some may ask.... "Why in the .... did you write this piece of .... in the
first place?!" There are 3 answers:

1. I was in need of something to do.
2. It was my scienece project in 8th grade. (PG county, 4th place)
3. Shut up. If you can make a better game, why the .... would you bother
    downloading my junk?

Sorry, but I was really tired when writing that last bit. If you don't like
it, feel free to take it out using your favorite editor or word processor.

What's new?
The game is faster now, because it interfaces with an assembly routine I wrote
to utilize direct screen writes.
Also the game uses some (emphasis on SOME) color.

In version 2.1, I added Monochrome support.

                         How to play and stuph.
A note: Since I am entirely too lazy to rewrite the documentation completely,
most of the following text has not changed from the original INVADED

YOU MUST SCORE AS MUCH POINTS AS YOU CAN BY SHOOTING ALIEN SPACESHIPS
IF YOU LET 40 ALIENS GO BY YOU THE GAME ENDS
SINCE THIS GAME DOES NOT USE GRAPHICS IT WILL WORK ON ANY PC OR COMPATIBLE.

Note: Monochrome monitors were not supported in v2.0. I have since then
revised my assembly routine so it works with monochrome. There WILL be
an INVADED 3. I plan to add a whole lot of new stuff, like different
ships, and explosions.

INSTRUCTIONS:
TO RUN INVADED ][ TYPE "invaded2" AT THE DOS PROMPT AND PRESS <enter>
(note: do not type the quotes)

When the game loads, it will ask you for the type of screen you have.
Type C for color (CGA/EGA/VGA/SVGA/PGA) or M for monochrome (MONO/BW).
If any programmer out there can explain to me how to detect the screen type
without asking the user anything, please tell me.

Next you will see the openning screen. Press any key to continue at that point.

Note: The Red White and Blue in the ][ at that point represent the colors
in the Russian flag. Not the American.

(No offense intended in that last bit. I just like my country.)

YOU WILL BE PROMPTED FOR THE SPEED OF ENEMIES. 1 IS SLOWEST 200 IS FASTEST.
RECOMMENDED SPEED FOR AN XT IS 30.(PRESS <enter> WHEN DONE)

NEXT YOU WILL BE ASKED TO ENTER THE CHALLENGE. THIS IS THE SPEED AT WHICH
THE ALIEN SHIPS ADVANCE TOWARDS YOU. 1 IS EASIEST 4 IS HARDEST.
RECOMMENDED CHALLENGE FOR AN XT IS 2.(PRESS <enter> WHEN DONE)

NEXT YOU WILL SEE YOUR SHIP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN AND THE ALIEN SHIPS AT
THE TOP.ON THE RIGHT YOU WILL SEE TWO SIGNS:

SCORE - AS THE NAME IMPLIES THIS SHOWS YOUR SCORE.

MISSED - THIS SHOWS HOW MANY ALIEN SHIPS YOU HAVE LET FLY PAST YOU
WHEN THIS NUMBER REACHES 40 THE GAME ENDS

TO CONTROL YOUR SHIP USE THE ARROW KEYS ON THE NUMERIC KEY PAD
NumLock MUST BE OFF

TO FIRE PRESS THE SPACE BAR

WHEN YOU HIT AN ENEMY WITH ONE OF YOUR SHOTS YOUR SCORE GOES UP BY 1 ,
THE SHIP DISAPPEARS AND A NEW ONE APPEARS AT THE TOP OF THE SCREEN.

WHEN YOU DESTROY A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF SHIPS THE NUMBER OF SHIPS FIGHTING
AGAINST YOU INCREASES.

WHILE YOU ARE PLAYING PUSH 'P' TO PAUSE THE GAME. PRESSING ANY OTHER KEY WILL
RESUME ACTION.

WHILE PLAYING PRESS <Esc> TO END GAME AND EXIT TO DOS.

If you're wondering about why this documentation is such a complete mess,
it is because when I update INVADED, I don't rewrite the documentation.
I just edit it, and add explanations for the new features. For example,
the parts completely in caps are from INVADED 1. The rest I added later.
Also, the grammar of parts in caps is so atrocious because I wasn't that
good at English when I first released INVADED.

Enjoy.
