   Energy prices finished sharply lower Friday on the  New  York  Mercantile    
Exchange  in  moderate  trading,  falling  on  concerns about potential OPEC    
overproduction.                                                                 
   Analysts said prices declined on two unconfirmed reports that the            
Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries might already be exceeding its    
new output quota.                                                               
   In industry news, Shell Oil said its Martinez, Calif, refinery plans to      
begin experimental production next week of a special cleaner diesel fuel.       
   Shell said the fuel meets all low-sulphur and low aromatic-diesel standards  
of the California Air Resources Board.                                          
   December crude fell 45 cents to $16.92 a barrel after trading as high as
$17.33 and as low as $16.85 during the session.
