Due to OVERWHELMING response to my earlier upload of pricing on ICD FAST Drives & Shoebox drives, I thought I would upload this too, to try to answer any questions you might have had on these setups. The thing I had the most questions about was the ICD FA*ST 50 Drive. What we are selling for $749 is a Seagate ST-157N-0 in ICD's FA*ST Case (like you see in all their ads). We, the folks here at Toad Computers, assemble it ourselves. It is the same thing that ICD sells. The ST-157N-0 is a 3.5" 50mb drive, and it has an imbedded controller, and that means it cannot control a slave mechanism. In order to expand the FAST system, you need another controller of some kind (RLL, MFM, or imbedded in another drive - see more pricing at end of this file.) The ST-157N-0 has an access time of 40ms. If you want a faster one, get the ST-157N- 1 system, but that's $40 more. The speed isn't a major issue. The FAST case can accept either one (1) 5.25" drive, or two (2) 3.5" drives. Call us if you want to do something strange. Also, ICD has a special to dealers for the FA*ST 50 for ONLY $824.96, so you can see why $749 is such a good deal. ICD called me and asked me how I was selling them for such a low price - I told them what we were doing and they said 'Oh.' By the way, if 50mb isn't your speed, we have the same thing in a 30 for $659. We have some other cases, called shoebox cases, but they look more like IBM PC cases that are only about 6" wide. They can hold: 2 5.25" drives, a controller, and a host adapter - they have a built in power supply & fan. The shoebox systems that I mentioned in file #9057 come in the shoebox case and consist of: 1 5.25 Seagate drive, a host adapter, and a controller (either RLL or MFM - see my last upload for details on explanations of these terms). It is important to mention that the shoebox system prices are kits, and aare easily assembled, but we can assemble them for you for $20. See our ads in ST Informer, Current Notes, and Michigan Atari Magazine. Anyway, the shoebox systems can easily have a second mechanism added to them for just the price of the mechanism - this is the primary difference between the FAST & the shoebox. All of the drive systems mentioned here use the ICD ST Host Adapter, WHICH HAS A BUILT IN CLOCK (a lot of people asked.)
