COMMODORE INTRODUCES THE AMIGA(R) 2000HD HIGH-POWERED AMIGA 2000 FEATURES PRE-CONFIGURED 40 MB HARD DISK, HARD DISK CONTROLLER AND FILE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. LAS VEGAS, NOVEMBER 14, 1988 -- COMMODORE BUSINESS MACHINES, INC. Today introduced the Amiga 2000HD to address the needs of the professional amiga user. This extension of the Amiga series, builds on the Amiga 2000 base unit which comes standard with 1 MB of RAM and a single 3.5-inch floppy disk drive. Specific Amiga 2000HD enhancements include a pre-configured, high-performance 40 MB hard disk drive; the 2090a autoboot hard disk controller; and Kickstart V. 1.3 and Workbench(tm) V. 1.3 system software. "We developed the Amiga 2000HD in response to demands from the Amiga network of dealers and professional users who wanted to sell or purchase a pre-configured machine built and supported by Commodore," said Joel Shusterman, Commodore Vice President of Marketing. Key professional applications of the Amiga machines include: video titling, color desktop publishing and computer-aided design/graphics. The new computer's 40 MB hard disk drive has an average access time of 28 milliseconds and the A2090A hard disk controller contains both ST-506 and SCSI interfaces with buffered direct memory access for high speed burst data transfer. The ROM-installed Kickstart V. 1.3 provides autoboot for the hard disk and Workbench V. 1.3 features a new fast filing system that provides up to 20 times performance increase for both reads and writes. There is also an expanded library of printer drivers and print control functions that include control of density, dithering, color correction and anti-aliasing. The Amiga 2000HD features an easy-to-use install disk which automatically re-installs the system software should the need arise. The open architecture of the Commodore Amiga allows extnesive internal expansion with multi-processor, multi-DOS options. Contained in the Amiga 2000HD are seven full-size internal expansion slots which include a combination of Amiga, standard PC XT/AT and dual purpose slots; a CPU expansion slot and a video expansion slot. In addition, the Amiga 2000HD features custom sound, animation and graphics chips, a detachable 94-key keyboard with separate numeric keypad, ten function keys and a two button optomechanical mouse. The Commodore Amiga 2000HD will be available through authorized Commodore Amiga dealers and has a suggested retail price of $2,999. The Amiga 2000HD is part of Commodore's complete line of graphics-oriented personal computers. In addition to the Amiga, Commodore also manufactures the MS-DOS compatible Professional Series III and the Commodore Colt(tm) computers.
