////FROM THE EDITOR'S COMPUTER....

HAPPY and BLESSED Easter to all our readers worldwide!

Thank you for all the well-wishes and for expressing your views and letting us
know what is important to you. As always we hope that the information and
up-to-date news you read in this magazine will "Lead you to the Rock"....

By the time you read the next issue of THE 'ROCK' ON-LINE, the winners of the
DOVE AWARDS will already have been announced. This is the first year that
T'R'OL has participated in the balloting and what an experience it has been.
I've already sent in my final ballots...now all we have to do is WAIT.

Space permitting, next month, along with the list of winners, I will let you
know how I did...no! I am not nominated for anything - what I mean is, I am
excited to know if I think like the rest of the people who are involved in
contemporary Gospel/Christian music do. When it came to the final voting,
picking the 'best' became tougher and tougher to do.

As it turns out, one of the best lps of 1988 was omitted. Hard as it was for me
to believe, >TO THE ENDS OF THE EARTH< by Scott Wesley Brown [Word Records],
which has to be one of the greatest lps around, did not appear on the final
balloting. On the other hand, several of the 'other bests' including >REAL LIFE
CONVERSATIONS< (Steven Curtis Chapman); >RICHEST MAN IN TOWN< (Bruce Carroll),
and songs like "THANK YOU" (Ray Boltz) and "AWESOME GOD" (Rich Mullins) were.

STUFF OF EARTH...

This is truly a time when the words of the song IF I STAND by Rich Mullins (off
his "STUFF OF EARTH...WINDS OF HEAVEN lp) have the most meaning to me. One line
of the song says, "Stuff of earth competes for the allegiance, I owe only to
the Giver of all good things".

Well, I guess you can think of those words under all different
circumstances...it hits home to me now as we approach the beginning of April
and GM '89 - the place will be Nashville, TN when everyone who is anyone in the
Christian/Gospel music industry will gather to meet, mingle, and fellowship,
give out awards (the Doves) and show off their talents.

Unfortunately, THE 'ROCK' ON-LINE will not be represented there this
year...which when keeping things in prospective is in itself not too much of a
catastrophe. I think that the magazine and its ability to reach people in this
country and abroad has done 'pretty good' in its (almost) 2 year existence. My
purpose for the magazine remains the same - to spotlight the music and the
musicians & singers...The Industry - that honors the Lord. To lead people to
Him... My hope is that the industry understands that the magazine just cannot
be there this year and that it still realizes that a 'no show' does not mean
we're out of the running because this magazine and data base reaches thousands
of people with the information about the music >daily<. -- Please keep us in
your prayers, that if it is the Will of God that next year, we'll spend the
entire April issue giving all of our readers first hand information about what
happened in Nashville....!

***

If you haven't read last month's issue, then you don't know what's new in
>heavy metal music<, and you also don't know that the response to Steve Camp's
new project has received favorable recognition. These are two topics you'll
read more about in weeks to come.

Before I close, I just want to welcome a new bulletin board system to our
fellowship - it is called BIT-STOP, it is located in Brooklyn, New York and it
will be (as of late March 1989) another computer system that features both the
monthly magazine and daily updates.

acclaimed recording of the "Star-Stangled Banner" which was premiered on Abc's
1986 "Libery Weekend Celebration". //\\ Reunion Records has announced that

EASTER ALBUMS SPOTLIGHT

If you are searching for a long-playing record/cassette to feature in your home
for the Easter holidays -- THE 'ROCK' ON-LINE spotlights these as the best for
the occasion.

KNOWN BY HIS SCARS (Michael Card) [Sparrow Records]
This lp is all about the Easter Season. Song titles include "Known By His
Scars", "Crown Him", "Traitor's Look", "Cross of Glory", and "Why". Five songs
actually refer to certain Bible verses, i.e. Come To The Table is about Luke
22.

TIME (Bobby Michaels)
This lp is not exactly an Easter-theme lp, but it might as well be. The songs
featured, include "Come And Enter His Presence", "My Redeemer Is Faithful and
True", "Come Worship The King".

MORNING LIKE THIS (Sandi Patti)
This Grammy award winner discusses in its title track what it might have been
like on Easter Sunday. Other songs on this fabulous lp include "Hosanna",
"Shepherd Of My Heart", "King Of Glory", "Love In Any Language", "In The Name
Of The Lord", and "There Is A Savior".

CHOOSE LIFE (Debby Boone)
If you choose to believe in Easter than you have chosen 'life' which is what
this great lp produced and arranged by by Michael O'Martian is about. Tunes
here include "Teach Me How To Love", "Song of Deliverance", "The Lord Is So
Good", "The Time Is Now", and "When I Accepted You".

MAN IN THE MIDDLE -- Wayne Watson
This is an older lp of Wayne Watson. Acoustically, it doesn't sound as well as
his later ones, but there are tracks in this lp that make this one worth it.
The title song, "MAN IN THE MIDDLE", is about Christ as He hung on the Cross.
Other titles, "The Least of These", "Love Found A Way", "Celebrate", keep the
theme alive.

<><>VIDEO<><>FOR GOD AND GOD ALONE - IN CONCERT MINISTRY (Steve Green)
[Sparrow]
Here is a FABULOUS video that will get you into the spiritual mood of Easter.
The songs performed are fantastic, beautiful, spiritual, and inspirational.
Meet Steve's wife and children, as well as his brother, and learn about his
family and his goals....and watch/listen as he performs many of the hits
included on a variety of his albums.

[Editor's note: This is a new feature that profiles, each month, a different
computer bulletin board that carrys THE 'ROCK' ON-LINE Magazine.]

The [S]t. [L]ouis [A]rea [C]hristian [B]ulletin [B]oard [S]ystem

SLACBBS is a privately owned Christian BBS operating out of St. Louis Missouri.
NOTE: It is PC-Pursuitable at 314-947-0895 operating at 300/1200/2400 baud.
Michael Ashburn is the sysop with Robert Weiter, Beth Lancaster-Brooks, and Jim
Dumser acting as co-sysops. It operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is
non-denominational with no affiliation with any particular church.

It first went on-line about 4 years ago with a little Radio Shack model III,
two floppy drives and the old Towne Crier BBS software. When we first started
SLAC, [Mike and friends call themselves SLACers!] it was an attempt on Mike's
part to use his computer talents as a computer technician and programmer for
God's work. Mike said that, "in my self centered way of thinking I thought I
could 'help God out' by providing this service. As it turns out, God has set me
straight on that idea. I have discovered that I get a LOT more out of running
this BBS than anyone else. I have learned so much over the years about
acceptance of Christians of other denominations."

Mike continued, "I come from the Christian Chruch, one of our co-sysops is a
Jesuit and the other two are Baptist. Our members are of every denomination you
can think of. Each one has something special to offer.

After about a year and a half on the old Radio Shack, Mike switched to a IBM
compatible 286 machine running the XBBS package under the XENIX multi-user
operating system. About a year ago, he changed BBS packages and went with the
Magpie BBS package and has been very happy with it. Last month they ported the
whole thing over to a new IBM 386 tower clone. Currently running on 200 meg of
hard disk, they are hoping to expand that to over 400 meg by the end of the
year - God willing.

The BBS has over six hundred registered users and network daily with the
secular Magpie-HQ BBS in New York City which produces some very good and lively
discussions.

SLACBBS FEATURES:

It has several active discussion groups, including the networked discussion
with MAGPIE-HQ on religion.
In addition it features discussions on computer topics, local Christian
activities, doctrinal issues, moral issues and prayer requests.

It has been carrying The 'Rock' On-Line Magazine for about 9 months now on a
regular basis thanks to Diane's work with MAGPIE-HQ and the networking feature.
It also contains very extensive file system consisting of MS-DOS files (all
kinds), CP/M, Apples, Christian files, Macintosh and a few UNIX/XENIX files.
All together there are about 80 to 100 meg of files on-line for
downloading...and growing daily.

SLACBBS hopes to expand to multiple phone lines in the future to increase
availability. It is a free of charge bbs. There is no 'registration' delay.
Each user has full access at the time they log on with 60 minutes of time
allocated for them. This is in keeping with the philosophy that a Christian BBS
should be as open as a church building with no strings attached. Give us a call
- I believe you will find us to be a very friendly place to visit.

<>IN HIS OWN WORDS - BRUCE CARROLL<>

Singer songwriter >Bruce Carroll< whose hit single "Above And Beyond" has
earned him a Dove nomination and whose lp "Richest Man In Town" made the top 5
of The 'Rock' On-Line's Top 25 Best Lps has put together a list of each of the
songs contained on this **first rate** lp with his special comments about each
one of them.

CROSS YOUR HEART - This song is a reminder of the need to call on Jesus to
start our day. He has a plan for us and we can know it if we just ask and pray.

ABOVE AND BEYOND - Selected as the first release, this single shows that He
knows our needs before we ask. It's a comfort to realize that God knows "Above
and Beyond", what we even think we need.

WHEN HE REIGNS HE POURS - By placing Him on the throne of our life and giving
everything to Him, we see Him work and move inour lives in a mightier way.

FIGHT TO BE WEAK - This cut is a plea for God to take control of our lives by
showing us we are strongest when we are on our knees in prayer. I want Him to
be strong in my life constantly. Therefore, I pray for Him to help me "Fight to
Be Weak".

RICHEST MAN IN TOWN - The title song is a simple story about a man realizing
that joy lies not in what he can buy or own but in the immeasurable treasure of
living for Christ.

ONLY YOU - I step out in the flesh at times, thinking that I can do some good
on my own. But I come to realize that only God can keep me and make me the man
I need to be.

SONG FOR YOU - While I was yet a sinner, He loved me. "Song For You" is a
personal testimony to the love that I have for my Lord and Savior.

IT IS FINISHED - Centered around John 3:16, this songs shows how exciting it is
to serve our Risen Savior who bought and paid for our ticket to Heaven.

HE'S ALWAYS THERE - I wrote this one because I can't believe God loves me like
He does; I'm so unworthy, yet He's never left me and never will.

FORGET IT - The enemy likes to bring back sins that we've confessed and been
washed of. Simply put, if God can't remember, why should we?

[ed. note - if you don't already have this lp - what are you waiting for? It is
great. If you don't care for country music (Christian or otherwise) don't let
this deter you either...this lp also fits under the categories of 'adult
comtemporary' and 'great stuff'!

CHILDREN'S MUSIC Review & Commentary by Ken Norian

SANDI PATTI AND THE FRIENDSHIP COMPANY Produced by Greg Nelson, 19th Street
Productions, and Sandi Patti Helvering

I first saw/heard Sandi Patti about seven years ago. She was then a little
known vocalist who was the on tour opening for the Gaither Vocal Band. I was so
impressed by her performance that I didn't even let that fact that I had two of
my tires slashed bother me. Sandi Patti has come along way since that
performance at the old Calderone Theatre in Hempstead, Long Island. Most
recently, she appeared briefly in the Grammy's.

When a person is as well respected as Sandi Patti, they have the luxury of
being able to release albums that are fun and not particularly brilliant in the
music category. >SANDI PATTI AND THE FRIENDSHIP COMPANY< is an album for and by
children. The songs feature Sandi's wonderful-as-ever voice together with a
chorus of children. We adults sometimes forget that children are as attracted
to and influenced by music as we are.

It is fact made poignantly when I see little ones singing along to some of the
blatantly anti-Christian lyrics of MTV videos. The ten songs on this album
convey in Sandi's clear delivery Christian themes that children can grasp. And,
like so many projects geared toward children, adults can find something here
that they can enjoy along with their little ones.

>SANDI PATTI AND THE FRIENDSHIP COMPANY< is a great way to introduce or
reinforce the message of the love of God to children. Its songs would also be
of great value as a springboard for discussion in Sunday School classes.
