ICR:TOP SOVIET SCIENTIST VISITS ICR

Dr. Dmitry A. Kuznetsov, a world-renowned biochemist and winner of
the prestigious Lenin Komsomol Prize in Science, visited the Institute
for Creation Research on January 25 and 26, 1990. Dr. Kuznetsov met
with ICR scientists to discuss ways in which they can combine their
efforts in conducting creationist laboratory research in Moscow.

Dr. Kuznetsov was one of three Soviet scientists (all traveling
independently of each other) who visited ICR at its Santee headquarters
during the same week. During "glasnost," many Soviet scientists like
Dr. Kuznetsov are free to publicly challenge evolutionary atheistic
Marxist dogma. Dr. Kuznetsov noted the irony that "it seems that
scientists have more academic freedom these days in Moscow than they do
in California," referring to Bill Honig-- California Superintendent of
Public Instruction--and his efforts to close ICR's Graduate School of
science because of its creationist viewpoint.

In 1983, Dr. Kuznetsov, at the age of 29, won the coveted Lenin
Komsomol Prize, an award given annually to the Soviet Union's two
brightest young scientists. Three years later, Dr. Kuznetsov earned his
country's Counsel of Ministries Prize for his outstanding work in
biochemistry. He holds three earned doctorates: an M.D. in Internal
Diseases, 1978; a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, 1981, and a D.Sc. in Molecular
Biology, 1989. In addition to writing articles in Russian science
journals, Dr. Kuznetsov has authored about 40 articles published in
English in 14 international scientific journals. Currently, he heads a
biochemistry lab for LaserInvest, a joint business venture involving
the Soviet Union, Great Britain, and India.

While working in Moscow in the 1980's, Dr. Kuznetsov converted from
evolutionism to scientific creationism and then from atheism to belief
in God. He subsequently joined the Moscow Baptist Church and is
currently writing a column, "Science Without Atheism" for an
independent monthly newspaper, The Protestant, which has a circulation
of 10,000 in the Soviet Union.

Dr. Kuznetsov conveyed his thanks to ICR for assisting him with
equipment, books, and other items for his creation research in Moscow.
He also shared with the ICR staff how the research and writings of Dr.
Henry Morris, ICR president, were instrumental in his "scientific
conversion."

While in the United States, Dr. Kuznetsov also lectured at Yale
University, U.C.L.A., and other schools on his scientific research.
