BBB:The purpose of Education

As we have stated in block capital letters in our writings, THE
PURPOSE OF ALL EDUCATION, Christian or secular, is to produce THE
MAXIMUM AMOUNT OF UNBELIEF IN ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY. The general rule is,
"The bigger the belfry, the more room for the bats."

We have here an excellent example of this matter documented from an
article called "LIBERALISM IN THE SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION." Here
somebody has taken the time to examine Southern Baptist young men in
Southern Baptist schools about their beliefs. These students were taken
from the Southwestern Seminary and Louisville (Southern) Theological
Seminary; in the survey (taken by a man named Hollyfield) we find the
following interesting facts, which are published under "A SOCIOLOGICAL
ANALYSIS OF THE DEGREES OF CHRISTIAN ORTHODOXY AMONG SELECTIVE STUDENTS
IN THE SOUTHERN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY." Here are the results.

Question: Which of the following statements comes closest to
expressing what you believe about God? First statement: "I KNOW GOD
REALLY EXISTS. I HAVE NO DOUBT ABOUT IT." One hundred percent of the
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA students said that was it, 74% of the FIRST YEAR
STUDENTS in college said that was it, only 65% of the students in the
FINAL YEAR said that was it, the MASTERS DEGREE STUDENTS numbered 71%,
and the Ph.D.'s came to 63%. When asked to sign a statement on "While I
have doubts, I feel that I do believe in God," none of the diploma
students had any doubts, BUT THE Ph.D.'s WERE 26% DOUBTERS.

In answer to the question: "Which of the following statements comes
closest to expressing what you believe about Jesus," 100% of the
DIPLOMA STUDENTS said "Jesus is the divine Son of God, and I have no
doubts about it," but 63% OF THE Ph.D.'s had plenty of doubts about it.
Twenty-one percent of the Ph.D.'s said, "While I have some doubt, I
feel basically that Jesus is divine," but none of the HIGH SCHOOL
DIPLOMA KIDS had any doubts.

Now, isn't that something? Ninety-six percent of the DIPLOMA
STUDENTS believe that miracles actually happened just as the Bible says
they did, but only 37% of the Ph.D. CANDIDATES believed it.

As to the existence of the devil, 90% of the DIPLOMA STUDENTS said
he was really there, but only 37% of the Ph.D. STUDENTS thought the
devil was there. Fifty-three percent of the Ph.D.'s believe that there
is life beyond death, while 100% of the DIPLOMA STUDENTS believed it.

When it came to the Virgin Birth, 15% of the Ph.D's said Christ was
definitely not virgin born, and 28% said, "He definitely did not walk
on water."

When it came to holding the Bible to be God's truth, 73% of the
DIPLOMA STUDENTS thought it was absolutely necessary, but 42% of the
Ph.D. STUDENTS said it wasn't necessary at all.

This shows the "progress" and "evolution" of higher education. At
Bob Jones the way it works it, when the student first enters there, 95%
of them believe the KING JAMES BIBLE is the word of God from cover to
cover, including the cover! By the time they have been there one year,
they believe there are other reliable translations besides the KING
JAMES BIBLE. By the time they have been there four years, they believe
the Westcott and Hort Greek text CAN CORRECT THE KING JAMES BIBLE. By
the time they have been there for six years, they think their own
preference is God and what they "prefer" is the deciding factor in
final authority. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHRISTIAN EDUCATION AND
SECULAR EDUCATION WHEN IT COMES TO MATTERS OF FINAL AUTHORITY. They may
differ in beliefs about evolution or morals, or politics or separated
living, but when it comes to ABSOLUTE AUTHORITY, there are just as many
anarchists at Bob Jones University and Tennessee Temple as there are in
the worst liberal seminaries in the Southern Baptist Convention.
