VUSIC The Screen Raver README Make sure that your CD-ROM drive is set up for playing music CD's. Also, the CD-ROM's audio output must be passed through the computer's sound card. Internal CD-ROM's are usually set up that way but external CD-ROMs require special cables for the audio to be plugged into the sound card. VUSIC The Screen Raver ScreenRaving with VUSIC Running the Install Program for VUSIC copies VUSIC onto your hard drive. This will enable you to run VUSIC with or without the VUSIC CD-ROM in your drive. Running it with the VUSIC CD-ROM disk will enable you to play the two bonus music tracks bundled with the VUSIC program. Track 2 has a rave which you can load and attach to track 2. It is called JUNGLE.RAV. However to get the most out of VUSIC, play any music CD in your CD-ROM drive and VUSIC will interact with it. After VUSIC has loaded, the first screen you will see will be the VUSIC controller. Pressing the SHIFT key will toggle between the VUSIC controller and full screen drawing. This is where the interaction is! Double click on the Question Mark icon(?) icon for full screen context sensitive help. There are several ways to play with your VUSIC software. The easiest way to start is to just turn your program ON and let VUSIC go. From there you can interact with VUSIC by changing brushes, movements and palettes, to create and save your own choreographies called Raves. VUSIC fills your computer screen with a constantly changing array of vivid colors and patterns. This changing stream of moving art is affected by a Variety of settings which you can control or just let VUSIC randomly do its thing. HypnoScreen Level When you press TAB, the VUSIC HypnoScreen will appear. Each time you press TAB, you step through one of the three stages of the HypnoScreen. The first is color cycling with a partial controller interface. The second is just the color cycling and the third is the color cycling with drawing over it. Each time you enter the HypnoScreen, a different pattern will be chosen at random. Explore unending combinations of VUSIC's highly randomized happy accidents which make VUSIC so cool. The secret to having the greatest amount of fun in this program is Experimentation!. READ ON THE FLY ( AUTO listen) In the center of the VUSIC controller interface is a vertical column with a diamond and a square on it. This column is a VU response indicator. When the AUTO button is turned on, the VU indicator is red and it responds to the audio signal coming from your CD-ROM drive. When the AUTO button is turned off, the VU indicator is green, and it responds to the Beats Per Minute (BPM) setting between the Speed and the TAP buttons. The default setting for the AUTO button is on, and the default setting for BPM is 60. If the VU indicator is not red when the AUTO button is on, you may need to make adjustments to your mixer controllers. With the wide variety of sound cards in the Windows market, there is no standard way to adjust the mixer.[In Sound Blaster for example, there is a SBxx directory.]Generally, the mixer is found in a Program Group associated with your sound card utilities. If you are using Windows 95, you should be able to find the mixer off the Start menu, either in the Accessories group under Programs, or in the Control Panel under Settings. VOLUME SLIDER DOESN'T WORK: If your CD player is external or uses the LINE-IN port of your sound card, then the slider won't work correctly. To fix this situation, locate the WINMIXER.INI file in your SETTINGS subdirectory within your VUSIC directory and copy this file into your WINDOWS directory. SETTING YOUR MIXER CONTROLS Windows: It may be necessary to adjust your mixer to insure that your CD player is enabled. Some of the settings to check are: Master Volume turned up, the CD player is enabled, CD player enabled to Record, LED display are turned off. MAC: To check your mixer settings, go to the Sound Control Panels, Choose Sound In, Choose a Source and enable the Internal CD. Click the options button. Select "internal CD" as the input source. Make sure to check playthrough. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: This program is designed to be played with music CD's . Make sure that your CD-ROM drive is set up for playing music CD's.
