STEVEN BOCHCO

Born: New York City, December 16, 1943; son of Rudolph (a concert violinist) 
and Mimi B. (an artist)

Grew up poor in Manhattan



Attended New York City High School of Music and Arts; had averge grades

Attended New York University as a freshman

Transferred to Carnegie Tech (later Carnegie-Mellon) in Pittsburgh, where 
he majored in writing. There he met Barbara Bosson, Michael Tucker, Bruce 
Weitz and Charles Haid. Bosson would later become his second wife. He has 
two children, Melissa and Jesse.

Earned a BA in 1966; had a summer internship with Universal Studios.



After graduation, he and Michael Tucker drove 52 hours non-stop for 
full-time jobs at Universal, where Bochco would remain until 1978; Bochco 
earned $15, 000 his first year.

His first job was writing filler material which was filmed and reedited 
into unsold pilots and old episodes of CHRYSLER THEATRE for resale 
overseas.

1973 - TV-movie, DOUBLE INDEMNITY

1974 - Collaborated on pilot of THE SIX-MILLION DOLLAR MAN

1975 - THE INVISIBLE MAN

1976 - Writer - Producer,  DELVECCHIO

1978 - Story editor, RICHIE BROCKLEMAN, PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR



In 1978, he moved on to MTM Enterprises.  After several failed attempts at 
launching shows, he was given carte blanche by studio executives to create 
a pilot similar in style to FORT APACHE: THE BRONX.



1979 - VAMPIRE

1979 - Executive Producer, PARIS

1980 - Co-creator, TV Series, HILL STREET BLUES

1983 - Writer and producer, BAY CITY BLUES



1985 - Bochco was fired by MTM. Officially, the firing was for his inability 
to keep HILL STREET under budget. Unofficially, it was because of his 
caustic personality.



At Twentieth Century Fox for NBC:



1986 - Co-created L. A. LAW, with Terry-Louise Fisher.

? - Co-created DOOGIE HOWSER, M. D. with  Terry-Louise Fisher.



1987 - Bochco recieved a $15M committment over 10 years from ABC to create 
10 series pilots.



(He also created a series for David Rappaport, NICK DERRINGER, PI,  about 
an under-sized private eye. Rappaport died, however.)



1987 - Created HOOPERMAN.

1990 - Created COP ROCK.

? - Created CAPITOL CRITERS.

? - Created CIVIL WARS

1993 - Created NYPD BLUE



? - Steven Bochco Productions also created THE BYRDS OF PARADISE.
