Q. What is _The Adventures Pete and Pete_ and when does it air?

A. The Adventures of Pete & Pete is a sitcom (for lack of a better word)
on Nickelodeon. Currently, it airs at 7:00pm EST on Sunday night.
(Each episode is replayed at 12:00 noon EST on the following Sunday.)
There are 13 new shows slated for the 1994-95 season.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. Who are the creators of the show and how did it come into being?

A. _The Adventures of Pete & Pete_ was created by Will McRobb and Chris
Viscardi. The two were hired for Nickelodeon's Promotion Department,
and created Pete and Pete as part of a promotional campaign.
Nickelodeon liked it so much that they decided to turn it into a bunch
of specials. These special went over so well, Nickelodeon asked for a
   series.

The Adventures of Pete & Pete chronicles the adventures of two
brothers (both named Pete), their friends and family, and the city
they live in. The adventures are by no means normal and border on the
surreal. Every episode is very entertaining.

   * Music
The Adventures of Pete & Pete uses lots of music. Check it out.

   * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World
Artie, the Strongest Man in World, is so strange and so
mysterious, we have put together this page for some rampant
          speculation.

   * KrebStar
Just as Warner Brother cartoons have their ACME company, the
Pete & Pete universe has its KrebStar. Here we have a list of
the KrebStar products that we have noticed.

Q. I don't keep a pencil and paper near the TV all the time, so I sometimes have
trouble remembering all the characters! Could someone fill me in? Also,
whenever I see my favorite star on the show, I go so crazy that I faint
right in the middle of the episode and completely forget what was going on!!
   Can someone help?

A. Again the WWW site is a big help because I don't wanna re-write what someone
   else has already written.

CHARACTERS IN THE ADVENTURES OF PETE & PETE

Here is a list of the characters in The Adventures of Pete & Pete with
a brief description of each character and a paragraph about where else
you might have seen the actor.

   * Big Pete
The older Pete is four years older than the younger Pete. He
narrates each story, giving us essential background information.
This Pete seems to be fairly average and normal. Pete's best
          friend is Ellen Hickle.

Older Pete is played by Mike Maronna. He has appeared in both
Home Alone and Home Alone 2.

   * Little Pete
Pete's view on life is rather bitter, and he has a rather
twisted disposition. Pete's personal super-hero is Artie, the
          Strongest Man in the World.

Younger Pete is played by Danny Tamberelli. He has done several
commercials: one for a "magic rope", a "Legomaniac" ad, and one
for Sonic Convenience Stores and their super 44 ounce drink. Movie
. appearances include _Mighty Ducks_ and _Huck Finn_.

   * Ellen
Ellen Hickle is older Pete's best friend. She lives just a
couple blocks away and goes to Pete's school. She plays the
French Horn and is an excellent student. All of this, plus her
cheery disposition, serves as an interesting contrast to both
          younger and older Pete.

Ellen is played by Alison Fanelli.

   * Mom
Mom is just simply Mom. She is a dedicated homemaker. Mom's
name is Joyce. She is played by Judy Grafe.

   * Mom's plate
Since mom's plate has its own listing in the opening credits,
we do the same here. Mom had an accident as a child which meant
a metal plate had to be put in her head. In fact, this is how
Mom and Dad met each other: Dad was using his metal detector at
the beach and detected the plate. The rest is history. Mom's
plate can serve as a radio antenna (which has its pros and
cons) and as a lightning rod (which also has its pros and
          cons).

   * Dad
Dad is just simply Dad. He's a bit of a bumbling fool, but his
heart is in the right place. Dad's last name (and therefore the
name of the whole family) is Wrigley. He owns and operates a
driving range. Dad's name is Don. Dad is played by Hardy Rawls.

   * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World
Suffice it to say here: Artie is the strongest man in the
world. We have put together some rampant speculation about him.
Toby Huss plays Artie, the Strongest Man in the World. He has
been spotted doing spots for MTV.

   * Petunia
Petunia is younger Pete's tattoo on his arm.

Bill is played by Rick Barbarette.

Frank Gulcher is the crossing guard during the second season.
. His first appearance was in "New Year's Pete".

   * "Endless" Mike Hellstrom
. One of the most amusing characters on the show. His first appearance
. was in "Tool and Die" as the leader of the Socketheads, a sort of . . shop class gang who rules the shop. Personally, I love this guy. Note
. how close his name is to Hellstorm. His official place in the show is
. as Big Pete's arch-nemesis. He has appeared in some Nike and Super
. Nintendo commercials too.
.
. "Endless" Mike is played by Rick Gomez.

John McLaughlin shows up as himself to support older Pete's bid

THE ADVENTURES OF PETE & PETE EPISODE GUIDE

Early "Shows"

. no time letting us know that Ellen "is a girl and a friend but not
. a girlfriend". [Note the different actor playing Dad!]

   "Halloween"
Hathead is smashing kids' pumpkins and must be stopped.

ever to swim the English Channel.

   "The Punishment"
Younger Pete has finally gone too far.

   "Route 34"
Older Pete's summer job is the worst. Ellen teaches old people to
. air swim.

   "X-Mas"
Pete & Pete give Dad a glow in the dark Frisbee, and they throw
a slimy fish around the room.

   "X-Ray Man"
Younger Pete gets super vision after staring into a lunar
eclipse. Ellen has to wear a lead smock!

the World, out of town. Meanwhile, younger Pete stands up to
super villain Paper Cut, but Paper Cut fights back. [The actor

Q. _The Adventures of Pete and Pete_ have just the swellest soundtrack for a
television show that I have ever heard in my life! Who is playing all this
   racket?

A. The three main bands that contribute music for the show (or maybe these are
the three bands I have the most information about) are Polaris/Miracle
Legion, Magnetic Fields, and Nice. Other contributors are Drop Nineteens,
Chug, and The 6ths, but my information is limited on these. Anyone that
   can help - please do.

From what I have found out, Will McRobb decided that he wanted
these indie-rock bands to be on the show. This is a very good thing because
the big man is finally paying the little man for a change. Mike Applestein
helped McRobb get in touch with the bands he wanted to use and also
introduced him to some other bands that would be good for the show. Mike
Applestein works with VH-1 in the licensing department and puts out a cool
zine called _Caught in Flux_. Look for it.

THE THEME SONG
--------------

The theme song was done by a band called Polaris which is Miracle
Legion with a few substitutions. The guitarist Ray Neal was on
vacation; so Drew Waters, who gave us this information, played guitar
for them. When Polaris appears in the episode "Hard Days Pete" Ray Neal is
back with the band, however. Miracle Legion is from New Haven, CT.

According to Drew, the lyrics to the theme song run like this:

HEY SANDY by Mark Mulcahy

Hey smilin strange, you're lookin happily deranged
@##$%^&&*(),.....;';-0))((&^$#@ [unknown line]
And have you picked your target yet, Hey Sandy ai yai yai yai...
Dont you talk back, Hey Sandy
Four feet away, end of speech its the end of the day
We was only funnin', but guiltily I thought you had it comin', Hey Sandy,
Don't ya talk back, Hey Sandy

The unknown line will remain missing. It seems that Mark does not want
to reveal it. And, yes, I know that the chorus sounds like "Does you
dog bite". Apparently, we're all wrong.

There should be a soundtrack album coming out. A promotional album of
sorts featuring Polaris will be released through some breakfast cereal
   this spring.

[ This little bit was taken from alt.tv.nickelodeon since I don't listen to
Miracle Legion personally. If anyone else has any other insight on the
band, please mail it to me. -chris ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you like "Hey Sandy", you'll probably like "Drenched", particularly
"Snacks And Candy", which kinda sounds like it. Miracle Legion is rarely
as carefree and bouncy as "Hey Sandy", though...much of "Surprise,
Surprise, Surprise" is really dark, even bleak. All their stuff is quite
good, but Me and Mr. Ray is my personal favorite. It's mostly acoustic
stuff, with some really beautiful songs.

MAGNETIC FIELDS
---------------

The Magnetic Fields are essentially Stephin Merritt. He writes all the songs,
but he has other musicians help perform them, including : Johny Blood -
Tuba, Sam Devol - Cello, Claudia Gonson - Drums, and Susan Anway - Vocals.
This is some seriously strange music. It lies somewhere between Johnny Cash,
country, techno-pop, and geek-pop. It's not really that different to what one
would expect, but it's just the fact that he is actually making this and
releasing it (and doing it so well) that makes it good. If you haven't heard
any Magnetic Fields releases, go to your local indie record store and give it
a listen. Anyone who has messed with one of those Casio sampling keyboards
will definitely understand. His music reminds me faintly of Ivo Watts'
projects, _This Mortal Coil_. Stephin Merritt also sings for The 6ths on at
   least one song.

NICE
----

Nice is a nice little band from Australia with Randall Lee, Susannah Stuart-
Lindsey, and Jo Packer rounding out the personnel list. Fairly typical pop
from Down Under.... Lee has been many other bands from that area including
Astray Boy and the Cannanes. It is very much on the same wavelength as
The Magnetic Fields except it does not have all the keyboards as much and
also lacks the extra instruments - just guitars, drums, and bass mostly.

Q. Man, that Artie dude is really weird. My 3 year old son is scared to death of
him and hides under the bed whenever he comes on, but my 4 year old daughter
hoots and hollers and claps her hands whenever she sees him - even in
commercials! Where did this guy come from and where can I get his phone
   number?!? I'm in love!

A. A good deal of information has been compiled about Artie at the WWW site
   [again!]. It is included here.

ARTIE, THE STRONGEST MAN IN THE WORLD

One of the oddest characters in The Adventures of Pete & Pete
is Artie, the Strongest Man in the World. In trying to figure out the
mystery of Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, we have put together
   this list of known facts:

     * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, is the strongest man in the
world. He is used in several episodes for his super-human
       strength. [Various episodes.]
     * While Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, is younger Pete's
personal super-hero, he is not imaginary. Other people have used
him for his super-hero abilities. [Various episodes.]
     * While being super-strong, Artie, the Strongest Man in the World,
has other super-hero abilities like heat vision. ["Staremaster"]
     * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, has a set jurisdiction.
       ["King of the Road"]
     * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, lives in a porta-house.
       ["When Petes Collide"]
     * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, is NOT an alien --- this
was proven scientifically by Ellen. ["Space, Geeks, and Johnny
Unitas"] He is referred to many times as a "mutant", although it
       is never explained.
     * Whammy bars affect Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, like
       "deadly kryptonite". ["Hard Day's Pete"]
     * "Love Rollercoaster" (and perhaps disco in general) attracts
Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, like a "giant funk magnet".
       ["Day of the Dot"]
     * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, has a past with Clark (a
turtle), Ernest Hemmingway, and Gertrude Stein. ["Rangeboy"]
     * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, is not invincible. He has
been defeated by an evil bowling ball. ["When Petes Collide"]
     * Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, is a character of the past.
In a two part episode, he left because younger Pete no longer
       needed him.

Q. What the hell is the KREB-**** business?

A. [ Taken from the WWW site. -chris ]

KREBSTAR PRODCUTS IN THE ADVENTURES OF PETE & PETE

Just as Wiley E. Coyote had his ACME corporation, the people of
Wellsville have Krebstar. There is an incomplete list of Krebstar
products that we've noticed in the episodes. (Connecting all of these
products with the episodes they appear in is comming. Really.)

   Krebstar 2000 Radio
The Krebstar 2000 is a radio that Artie, the Strongest Man in
the World, uses to keep himself awake in "The Nightcrawlers"
          episode.
.
   Krebstar 200 Walkie-talkie
. The Krebstar 2000 walkie-talkie serves as a radio transmitter
. and microphone in "Hard Day's Pete".

   Krebstar 3000 Inviscerator Guitar
. Little Pete's guitar in "Hard Day's Pete".

   Krebstar clock
These show up just about everywhere --- whenever they show a
closeup of a clock. For example, see "Time Tunnel".

   KrebBoy
          KrebBoy is a riding lawnmower.

   KrebStar Ant Farm
Artie, the Strongest Man in the World, gives this to younger
Pete, suggesting that Pete tunnel his way out of his grounding.
. Seen in, of course, "Grounded for Life".

   Krebtego
Krebtego is a game which looks very similar to Stratego played
by younger Pete and his pet lizard Gary in "The Big Quiet".

   KrebStick
KrebStick is underarm deoderant seen in "Time Tunnel".

   Krebllogs
Krebllogs is the name a cereal company which makes Cosmic
Rings, a cereal high in riboflavin. Younger Pete eats the
cereal in "Time Tunnel" for time travel.

   Kreb of the Loom
Yes, these are underwear. Seen in "Inspector 34".

   Krebstar 9300
The Krebstar 9300 is a flashlight. Seen in "Inspector 34".

   KrebSol
          KrebSol is a pine disinfectant.

   KrebStore 24
KrebStore is a twenty-four hour grocery store where older Pete
finds Bill and Teddy in "Time Tunnel".

   Kreb Comics
This one is pretty self explanatory.

   KrebStar Aluminum Siding
Super Villan McFlemp sells KrebStar brand aluminum siding in
          "Farewell My Little Viking".

   KrebScout Survival Guide
. Monica uses this guide in the episode "Sickday" to survive the
. 'brain-sucking' stretch of school between President's Day and Easter.

   KrebStar Foods
. Apparently they make just about any food, but we actually get to
see KrebStar brand tapioca pudding and creamed corn in "Sickday".

   KrebStar typewritter
. A secretary uses this product in "Sickday".

   KrebStar textbooks
. KrebStar also has their own math book, seen in "Sickday".

   KrebStar hat
. This was spotted in "Sickday" on the head of Mr. Throneberry.

   Kreben Up
. This was a clear soda and in a two-liter bottle chugged by Endless
Mike and his gang. Want to lay bets that it tastes like lemon-lime?
. Seen in "Yellow Fever".
