First Season (July 1991 to June 1992)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The opening features a segment from their black and white
television show.  This segment is usually a typical television plot
of the 1950s which the real show twists for the 1990s viewpoint.
    ABC carried the show at 9pm or 9:30pm EDT (depending on other
shows because HHIH was a summer replacement), while Nick played it at
8pm on Sundays and repeated on the same night at 11pm.  Later in the
season, Nick just played it at 11pm on Sundays only.
    Titles are from TV Index, which only covers broadcast networks
like ABC.  Special thanks go to George Fergus for the information.
#1 "Meet The Nielsens"
    A 1950s sitcom family faces the real life 1990s when their show
gets canceled.  (C) 1991
    Features: Gale Gordon as Mr. Mooney ("The Lucy Show").  Honey
also mentions "My Mother The Car," "Hello Larry," and Ronald Reagan
(indirectly).
    Black And White Segment: An introduction to America's Favorite
Family.
    Trivia: It was HHIH's world premiere and pilot show.  They were
replaced by "Joanie Loves Chachi."
    More Trivia: (SPOILER!) Brownie?  Cookie?  They are really TV
Characters!
    Nick At Nite Trivia: Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon played husband
and wife on a radio show.  Since they worked well together, Lucy
wanted Gale play Fred on "I Love Lucy," but he wasn't available.  So,
"The Lucy Show" brought them back together.
    Premiered on July 19, 1991 for ABC and July 21, 1991 for Nick.
Repeated on Nick for the first time on July 21.
#2 "Make My Bed"
    After several crimes are committed against the Nielsens, Lloyd
goes overboard with crime protection.  Elaine takes Honey to a self
defense class.  (C) 1991
    Features: Barbara Billingsley as June Cleaver ("Leave It To
Beaver").  ("She worries too much about the Beaver," stated Honey.)
    Black And White Segment: Chuckie eats Honey's pie which she baked
for the church bake sale.
    Trivia: (SPOILER!) The dog catches the bullet with his teeth! :)
    Premiered on July 26 for ABC and July 28 for Nick.  Repeated on
Nick for the first time on July 28.
#3 "Hi Mom, I'm Not Home"
    When Elaine realizes that her family has become dysfunctional,
Honey helps them to get back together.  The Duffs and Nielsens
celebrate Mike's birthday.  (C) 1991
    Features: Jim Nabors as Gomer Pyle ("Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.," "The
Andy Griffith Show," and "Mayberry R.F.D.").  Lloyd mentions "The
Flying Nun" and Maxwell Smart ("Get Smart").
    Black And White Segment: Chuckie gets a surprise party.
    Trivia: A pianist plays the show's theme at the end.
    More Trivia: Honey's present to Mike was Gomer!
    Premiered on August 2 for ABC and August 4 for Nick.  Repeated on
Nick for the first time on August 4.
#4 "Grey Skies"
    Because of the recession, job scarcity, and sitcom relocation,
Lloyd falls into a depression.  Mike has his first flashback.
(C) 1991
    Features: Al Lewis as Grandpa Munster ("The Munsters").  Lloyd
mentions that Mr. Ed is one of his best friends.
    Black And White Segment: All about Lloyd and his job hunt.
From dattier@ddsw1.mcs.com (David W. Tamkin):
    Trivia: "... Grandpa's name is Vladimir Dracula."
    Premiered on August 9 for ABC and August 11 for Nick.  Repeated
on Nick for the first time on August 11.
#5 "Fur Flies"
    Lloyd forbids Honey from being friends with Elaine when Honey
starts thinking for herself.  Mike asks Babs for a date.  (C) 1991
    Features: Audrey Meadows as Alice Cramden and Joyce Randolph as
Trixie Norton ("The Honeymooners").
    Black And White Segment: Honey buys a rabbit fur coat.  (Trixie
Norton appears in this scene.)
    Trivia: Audrey was also in the sitcom "Too Close For Comfort."
(See #10 for information about "Too Close For Comfort.")  Joyce was a
replacement for the original Trixie for the show.  I concluded to
"The Honeymooners" because of some obvious clues besides the
stars--[1] Lloyd says "Hardi-har-har", and [2] Alice says "... king
of the castle."
From dattier@ddsw1.mcs.com (David W. Tamkin):
    More Trivia: "Audrey was also ... in `It's Not Easy.'"
    Premiered on August 16 for ABC and August 18 for Nick.  Repeated
on Nick for the first time on August 18.
#6 "S.R.P."
    After the Nielsens announce that they have a chance to return to
Springfield, Mike goes crazy.  (C) 1991
    Features: Ann B. Davis as Alice Nelson Franklin ("The Brady
Bunch").
    Black And White Segment: America's Favorite Family showed its
unity. (???)
    Trivia (Though It Isn't Trivial): Robert Reed died in 1992; Reed
was the TV father Mike Brady.
    More Trivia: S.R.P. stands for the "Sitcom Relocation Program."
    Premiered on August 23 for ABC and August 25 for Nick.  Repeated
on Nick for the first time on August 25.
Second Season (June 1992 to Summer 1993)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    The opening segment features the Nielsens talking about their
beliefs and complaints about the "real world." They can change bad
things about the 1990s into "good" things from the 1950s using the
Turnerizer. (For example, she changed Chuckie's rock music to 1950s
music in #8 show.)

    The show's season began June 6, 1992. The shows are generally
played new on Sundays at 8pm and replayed the following Sunday at
11pm.  A second rotation of shows #7 through #13 began July 19, 1992.

#7 (Room is saved here for each show for the title--I need titles.)

    Sex becomes the prime topic when Babs has a date with a known
sexual harasser. Elaine wants condom machines in Mike's school.
(C) 1991

    Features: An edited clip from "The Donna Reed Show" with Jeff
(Paul Peterson) and Mary Stone (Shelley Fabares).

    Opening: A discussion for Chuckie of where TV characters and real
people are born.

    Trivia: The first show without a special guest star directly on
the show. Honey and Lloyd talk about the Huxtables ("The Cosby
Show") and the rules of TV family bedrooms.

    Premiered on June 6, 1992 at 11pm and repeated for the first time
on June 7, 1992 at 11pm.

#8

    Honey takes a job at a biker bar to support the family when
Lloyd's paycheck doesn't make ends meet. Chuckie and Skunk find ways
of making money for a rock concert. (C) 1991

    Features: Eva Gabor as Lisa Douglas ("Green Acres") from
Hooterville.

    Opening: A discussion of how to earn money (i.e., pumpkin patch)
and of the Megabeast concert.

    Trivia: Lisa is selling all natural beauty products, and Arnold
(the pig) drives her and Oliver around. :) (No kidding!)

    More Trivia: "Green Acres" had a reunion movie made for CBS that
was played on the 1991-92 TV season.

    Premiered on June 7 at 8pm and repeated for the first time on
June 14 at 11pm.

#9

    Chuckie asks Eddie for advice when Skunk wants him to break the
law. Mike and Babs take care of an egg for a psychology project.
(C) 1991

    Features: Ken Osmond as Eddie Hascal ("Leave It To Beaver").
Lloyd tells Chuckie to go to his room till he's "Thirtysomething."

    Opening: A discussion of popularity.

    Trivia: This is the second cast member from "Leave It To Beaver";
the first was Barbara Billingsley in #2.

    More Trivia: (SPOILER!) The egg gets beaten into Elaine's
brownies.  ("Brownie," questions Honey.)

    Premiered on June 14 at 8pm and repeated for the first time on
June 28 at 11pm.

#10

    When they are tired of being pushed around, Mike and Honey take
an assertiveness class. Skunk and Chuckie dress up for "Career Week"
at school.  (C) 1991

    Features: Georgia Engel as Georgette Baxter ("The Mary Tyler
Moore Show") all the way from Minneapolis. Honey and Mike go onto a
3 hour tour ("Gilligan's Island"). :) Honey also sings/hums the
theme song with the lyric "No."

    Opening: Babs gets a small bikini which Honey objects to her
wearing at the beach.

    Trivia: Skunk dressed up like a Supreme Court Justice (with
overtones about Clarence Thomas), and Chuckie wants to be an
Astronaut ("Chuckie, you are a regular Space Cadet," quipped Lloyd).

    More Trivia: Georgette reports that Lou (Ed Asner) spun off (onto
"Lou Grant"), Murray (Gavin MacLeod) is a captain of a cruise ship
("The Love Boat"), and that Sue Ellen (Betty White) is living out her
"golden years" in Florida. By the way, Betty White is spinning off
again from "The Golden Girls" to "The Golden Palace." Georgette
failed to mention that Ted Baxter (Ted Knight) died within the last
five years. Ted also had a spin-off called "Too Close For Comfort,"
and it starred Audrey Meadows as his mother-in-law. (See #5 "Fur
Flies" for information about Audrey Meadows.)

    Even More Trivia: On "Too Close For Comfort," Ted was a
cartoonist and drew "The Adventures Of Cosmic Cow." He usually drew
the cartoon while wearing his "Cosmic Cow" puppet.

    Premiered on June 21 at 8pm and repeated for the first time on
June 28 at 11pm.

#11

    Sally and Honey decide to find a husband for Elaine. Honey also
plays cupid with Babs and Mike. (C) 1991

    Features: Rose Marie as Sally Rogers ("The Dick Van Dyke Show").

    Opening: Mike wants to see Babs in his favorite form--black and
white.

    Trivia: Honey tries to find men in single's bar and personal adds.

    More Trivia: (SPOILER!) Sally reports that Rob Petrie (Dick Van
Dyke) is now working for David Letterman ("Late Night With David
Letterman" with Paul Shaffer and the World's Most Dangerous Band) and
that Laura (aka Mary Richards) works for a TV station in Minneapolis
(WJM-TV). (See the last show's information for more details about
Laura's new workplace--"The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Both Mary
Richards and Laura Petrie were portrayed by Mary Tyler Moore.)

    Nick At Nite Trivia: Dick Van Dyke is the Chairman of Nick At
Nite.

    More Nick At Nite Trivia: Nick At Nite has bought up the MTM
catalog including "WKRP In Cincinnati," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show,"
and "Rhoda."

    Premiered on June 28 at 8pm and repeated for the first time on
July 5 at 11pm.

#12

    The Duffs and Nielsens go to war over an antique bust clock that
is worth $3000. Lloyd finds out that people aren't always honest as
he is, and Honey cleans house. (This is truly the funniest HHIH
yet!)  (C) 1991

    Features: Doug Llewelyn ("The People's Court"). Honey has a
phone conversation with Hazel ("Hazel").

    Opening: The Nielsens decide what to watch on TV.

is their first time off the show.

Nick At Nite.

New Shows: I expect 20 new shows of HHIH. Nick ordered six shows for
their cartoons and then renewed to 20. I believe it is safe to
assume the same for HHIH.

Guest stars coming soon: Does someone know the rest of the new ones?

Did You Know? Rupert Holmes had several Top 40 hits.

Lyrics To Theme:

                        "Hi Honey, I'm Home"
                      Written By Rupert Holmes

    (Doorbell rings the theme)

    At the end of my day, on the highway, never do I roam,
    What on Earth is sweeter than to greet her,
    "Hi Honey, I'm Home!"

    That was once our theme song, and the dream song, of our
         honeycomb,
    And the small fry fell out, when I yell out,
    "Hi Honey, I'm Home!"

    We were once a sitcom family, on your black and white TV,
    Now we're off the air, been pulled from there, and dropped into
         reality,
    Life was once much duller, they put color, in our monochrome,

    Still she gabs all day and spends my money,
    I find the situation funny,
    Doesn't life seem so rerunny?

    "Hi Honey, I'm Home! Hi Honey, I'm Home!"

Nickelodeon And HHIH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Nickelodeon is an United States cable channel.  During the day,
they play children's programming, including "The Ren And Stimpy
Show," "Rocky And Bullwinkle," and "Looney Tunes."  At night, they're
called "Nick At Nite" and feature long forgotten, but popular, TV
shows like "Get Smart," "Green Acres," and "Dragnet."  "Hi Honey, I'm
Home" is Nick At Nite's first first-run original sitcom as of HHIH's
second season.  (By the way, "On The Television" was Nick's first
original television show.)  The first season was entirely played by
ABC but was dropped because of "low ratings"; Nick let ABC play it in
the first place so it could have a "Instant Rerun" promotion.  Nick
apparently got a positive response for the show.  It was kept for a
second season, even if ABC wasn't going to keep the show.
    Currently, Nick plays HHIH usually on Sunday nights at 8:00pm
Eastern time/5:00pm Pacific time and repeats the previous week's show
at 11:00pm Eastern time/8pm Pacific time.  On Saturday June 6 (from
8:00pm EDT till 11:30pm EDT), Nick ran its first (hopefully annual)
HHIH marathon; Nick At Nite played all the first season shows plus
the first show of the second season.  On the following night, HHIH
continued at its regular times for the second season.
    On a side note, some of the guest characters' names aren't said
directly or at all because of trademarks; a prime example is show #5
with Alice Cramden and Trixie Norton.
Fan Items
Stay tuned.
    There is a remote chance that Nick sells these things at HHIH's
studio at Nickelodeon Studios, Florida.  If someone is going down
there and visits Nick Studios, _please_ inform me about this subject.
Miscellaneous
    This guide is saved under the file name of "hihoney4.gui"
(hihoney4.guide is what the filename stands for; it is because of IBM
filename limitations that I do not name it differently) and is
dedicated to all stars from television and radio for their endless
hours of _happiness_ and _joy_.  By the way, anything marked "???"
means the subject is unclear or unknown to me.  Please fill me in on
this piece of information.
    Please Note: Please send me more information about the characters
on the Mary Tyler Moore show (character names and people), and does
the company name "MTM" stand for "Mary Tyler Moore?"
    Thanks go out to all who sent suggestions to me.  Special thanks
go to Sam Sippel for his supplemental information.  Thanks also go
out to David Tamkin for his comments and to George Fergus for the
first season titles.  Keep those letters coming!
    If any information is incorrect in this guide, please send
changes to me.  I would love it if someone could send the titles
and/or the proper numbering system for the shows (like "Bart's Dog
Gets An 'F'" and "7FOD" for "The Simpsons.").
               Because Of Space And Time Limitations,
                  The Following Disclaimer Is Here:
    PLEASE DO NOT SEND REQUESTS FOR THIS GUIDE because: 1) I will put
it up for long periods of time on rec.arts.tv, and 2) it is on an ftp
site.  Besides, I am a college student who doesn't have lots of time.
 _Please_ do not overload my e-mail address with requests either if
you don't agree with my practice: I need as much space for my
computer programming projects, and those type of messages will be
deleted and unread.
                           FTP Information
    If you know of or run an ftp site interested in carrying this
guide, please e-mail me.  This guide will be posted at regular
intervals on UseNet and updated on anonymous ftp site called
ftp.coe.montana.edu.
    Note: Each HHIH guide has a number in the filename, and if this
number is bigger than what you have, it is an update.  For example,
my first guide on there is called "hihoney3.gui" while the next one
will be "hihoney4.gui."
