Doctor, Doctor chronicles the exploits of four doctors who formed the
Northeast Medical Partners. After completing their Harvard medical schooling and
residencies they get together and setup their own partnership in Providence,
Rhode Island.

The focal point of the series is Mike Stratford, a semi-psychotic doctor
who has a passion for healing, anybody. Besides being a doctor, Mike has written
a couple of books and is a daily feature on Wake Up Providence..., a morning
show. Other major characters include Richard, Mike's gay brother and an
assistant English professor; Dierdre, a doctor whose looking for the right man
and once slept with Mike; Grant, a doctor whose only looking to keep his image
perfect; Abe, a doctor whose married with a son and a perfect family life; Faye,
a nurse who likes crossword puzzles and kinky things. Other semi-recurring
characters include Mike's mother Connie, and the two hosts for Wake Up
Providence..., Pia & Hugh. Two love interests for Mike were Elizabeth, a
television producer and Leona, Grant's sister, a psychologist. Other significant
characters are shown in the guest cast, with their character names between these
brackets [ ] for their first appearance only. After the title of the episode,
those brackets are also used to highlight the content of the opening teaser
which generally featured Matt doing something zany and madcap.

The series was a summer replacement that did well enough for CBS to carry
it into their fall schedule. After thirteen episodes, the show was put on
hiatus. It returned later with two new episodes in the summer and was again
added to the fall schedule with another batch of episodes with some minor
changes, including the addition of Grant's sister and niece. Fourteen new
episodes were aired and the series was placed on hiatus again. The remaining
episodes that were produced were shown later that summer but unfortunately the
show was not picked up again.
