sulfa drugs

Sulfa drugs, or sulfonamides, were the first systemic drugs
effectively used to combat bacterial infections in humans. Since
the advent of antibiotics, however, their use in therapy has
become quite limited. Sulfa drugs are still used, for example,
against streptococcal infections, urinary-tract infections, and
ulcerative colitis. Drug side effects include reactions in the
kidney, liver, skin, and bone marrow.
