             AN EPIDEMIC OF SENATE RETIREMENTS
                      News Analysis

With the retirement announcements of Senators Alan Simpson
(R-WY) and Mark Hatfield (R-OR) following on the heels of the
announcement by Congressperson Pat Schroeder (D-CO), retirements
in the House and Senate have reached epidemic proportions. Never
before in this century have 12 Senators announced retirement the
same year.

What is going on? An obvious reason is the shock of Democrats
who are used to living a life in the majority. They may have
concluded that a life in the minority is not worth living. But
one third of Senate retirements are Republicans, so this
explanation seems inadequate.

Media Bypass Reporter Jim Norman thinks he has the answer. He
says these Senators have been caught with money stashed in
oversees bank accounts and are being forced to retire. His
sources have links to the intelligence community. Norman says
there are more retirements to come.

If the allegations raised by Norman are correct, these
politicians would be joining the brother of former Mexican
President Salinas as well as former Canadian Prime Minister
Mulroney, both of whom have recently been caught with oversees
bank accounts containing money of dubious origin.
