1. Q. What are the system requirements for using Microsoft Windows
      for Workgroups ClipBook?

   A. The Windows for Workgroups ClipBook Viewer allows you to share
information from other applications pasted into the Clipboard. To
share network resources using ClipBook Viewer, you must have at
least 3 megabytes (MB) of RAM on your machine and be operating in
386 enhanced mode. For more information, please refer to the
section titled "Linking and Embedding Objects" in Chapter 6 of
      the "Getting Started" manual.

2. Q. I am receiving the error message "Format of device dependent
bitmap does not match display." What is causing this problem?

   A. This error message usually occurs when you try to view a shared
ClipBook page if the image was created on a machine with a video
driver that uses a color palette that is different from the one
on the machine that is viewing the image.

For example, suppose an image was created on a machine with a
video driver and card that support 256 colors. The image was
created in an application that also supports 256 colors. If you
paste this image into a ClipBook to be shared, to view the same
image, a machine accessing the shared ClipBook must have a video
card and driver that match the number of colors supported (in
      this example, 256 colors).

The ClipBook image format is device dependent; therefore, viewing
shared ClipBook images is limited to machines that match the
number of colors supported by their respective video drivers and
      cards.

3. Q. Can I use ClipBook to share information with a system that
cannot use the same video driver?

   A. To share clipped information between systems that cannot use the
same video driver, use the following seven steps:

      1. Copy the information from the active application to the
         Clipboard.

      2. Open an application that is common to both machines, such
as Microsoft Windows Paintbrush or Microsoft Windows Write.
(These applications both support 16 colors.)

      3. Paste the Clipboard contents into the common application.

      4. Save the file to either a shared directory on the source
computer or a shared directory on the destination computer by
choosing Save As from the File menu.

      5. From the shared directory on the destination computer,
open the file in the common application.

      6. On the destination computer, select and copy the
         information to the Clipboard.

      7. Paste the information into the desired application on the
         destination computer.

4. Q. How can I determine what video driver is installed on my
computer, and how can I change the video driver selection?

   A. To determine the video driver installed on your system, choose
the Windows Setup icon. The information on the Display line
should identify the number of colors supported. Unless otherwise
specified, 16 colors is the default. To change your video driver,
choose Change System Settings from the Options menu. For more
information about changing your video driver, press the F1
function key in the Windows Setup dialog box.

NOTE: Your hardware may not support all the available video
       driver options.

5. Q. How can I copy a shared ClipBook page to the Clipboard?

   A. To copy a shared ClipBook page to the Clipboard, use the
following three steps. Note that ClipBook Viewer does not support
drag-and-drop editing between the Local ClipBook and a shared
      ClipBook.

      1. From the File menu, choose Connect. Choose Computer Name
         and press ENTER.

      2. From the shared ClipBook window, select the desired page.

      3. From the Edit menu, choose Copy to place the image on the
         Clipboard.

6. Q. How do I copy a shared ClipBook page to the Local ClipBook?

   A. To copy a shared ClipBook page to your Local ClipBook, use the
      following five steps:

      1. From the File menu, choose Connect. Select a computer name
         and press ENTER.

      2. From the shared ClipBook window, select the desired page.

      3. From the Edit menu, choose Copy to place the image on the
         Clipboard.

      4. Open the Local ClipBook. From the Edit menu, choose Paste.

      5. Type a page name in the Paste dialog box and press ENTER
to place the image on your local ClipBook.

7. Q. The Copy, Paste, and Delete commands on the Edit menu are
unavailable. What is causing this problem?

   A. When you open the ClipBook Viewer, the Local ClipBook is usually
the active window. If no pages are saved on the Local ClipBook
and no information is on the Clipboard, the Edit menu commands
Copy, Paste, and Delete are unavailable. If information is stored
on the Clipboard, only the Paste command is available from the
ClipBook Edit menu. This behavior is by design. To save a page on
the Local ClipBook and make all Edit menu commands available, use
      the following three steps:

      1. Copy some information to the Clipboard.

      2. In the Local ClipBook, choose Paste from the Edit menu.

      3. Type a page name and press ENTER.

A page on the Local ClipBook must be selected in order for all
Edit menu commands to be available. If the Clipboard is the
active window, the Copy command is unavailable. This behavior is
by design. The Copy command is not available from the Clipboard
Edit menu because the Clipboard can receive information from
other applications only. The Copy command should be used from the
      Local ClipBook window.

8. Q. A linked object is missing from my Local ClipBook. How can I
      correct this problem?

   A. A linked object may be unavailable when you view a Local ClipBook
page. If this occurs, the object may have been pasted from an
application that is not an object-linking-and-embedding (OLE)
server. Support for OLE depends on the applications involved. To
create linked or embedded objects, you must use a server
application. Microsoft Windows Paintbrush is an example of a
server application. Objects are inserted or pasted into client
applications. Microsoft Windows Write is an example of a client
application. Some applications, such as Microsoft Excel, can
function as both servers and clients.

Typically, you paste an object from a server application into a
client application and then include text in the client
application. Attempts to copy information that includes both a
linked object and text from a client application to the Clipboard
and then to the ClipBook are unsuccessful. A link must be
established from a single information type (for example, a
Paintbrush picture or a Microsoft Excel chart, not a combination
of items from a client application). If you cannot establish a
link from the shared ClipBook of another workstation through your
Local ClipBook, use the following three steps:

      1. Create the object in a server application on another
         workstation.

      2. In the Local ClipBook of that workstation, copy the
object. Then, choose Share from the File menu to make the page
         shareable.

      3. Establish the link by double-clicking the shared object.
It should then appear on the Clipboard. If you cannot establish
a link through the Clipboard to a client application on your
workstation, you cannot establish a link through the Local
         ClipBook.
