Subject: 1. How to unsubscribe myself from DEAF-L?

Do not send your unsubscription request to the DEAF-L list as several
people (probably you too) have been trying to do.
Instead of this, send a message to <listserv@siucvmb.siu.edu> whose body
contains the following command:

SIGNOFF DEAF-L

If you have any problem signing off DEAF-L using the above method, contact
the DEAF-L moderator, Roy Miller, at <ge0013@siucvmb.siu.edu>

Subject: 2. Introduction

The purpose of this document is to give you starting point for locating
and discovering Internet resources related to deafness. You'll find
that, thanks to the diligent efforts of several people during the last
few years, there is a lot of stuff about deafness on the Internet.

Most of the information is available on the World-Wide Web. The rest
of this document contains (very few) URLs (pointers) which will allow
you to discover and retrieve the information.

I assume that you already know how to use E-mail and what do the terms
WWW and URL mean. If you do not know, ask your local system guru. For
those who do not have access to a WWW browser, I added a section about
accessing the WWW by E-mail.

------------------------------

Subject: 3. Pointers to information

1. Deaf World Web home page:
   http://deafworldweb.org/dww/

This is the premier starting point for your searches for information
   about deafness.

2. URL of Omer Zak's DEAF-L FAQ:
   http://www.weizmann.ac.il/deaf-info/

This WWW site contains summaries of information which passed via the
DEAF-L discussion list during the last few years. It emphasizes
opinions, testimonials and personal experiences. There is also some
   objective information.

3. URL of Omer Zak's TTY FAQ:
   http://www.weizmann.ac.il/deaf-info/tty_faq.html

This is actually part of (2) above, but it was mentioned separately
because the most frequently asked question on DEAF-L is about
using a PC to talk by phone to a deaf TTY user. This document tells
you everything you need to know about using PCs to contact people
   with TTYs.

4. URL of DEAF-L list administrative information:
   http://www.weizmann.ac.il/deaf-info/administrative.html

This is actually part of (2) above, but it was mentioned separately
because it is needed by anyone who starts to follow the DEAF-L list.

Subject: 4. I do not have WWW browser. How to access it by E-mail?

DISCLAIMER: The information below is not up-to-date, but if you follow
instructions, you'll probably get information about up-to-date Web-by-mail
services.

1. Using the server at agora@mail.w3.org.
Send an E-mail message to <agora@mail.w3.org> with empty Subject
line and the following in the body of the message:

SEND <The URL of the desired WWW page>

Example - to retrieve Omer Zak's DEAF-L FAQ, send the following
   command:

      SEND http://www.weizmann.ac.il/deaf-info/home.html

To get more information about the agora server, send the following
   command:

      SEND http://www.w3.org/hypertext/WWW/Agora/Help.html

2. Using the WebMail service.
NOTE: this is a for-fee service. Unregistered users are limited
to a certain number of retrievals per month.

Send an E-mail message to <web-mail@ebay.com> with empty subject
line and a list of URLs, which you want to retrieve, in the body
of the message. Example - to retrieve Omer Zak's DEAF-L FAQ, send
   the following:

      http://www.weizmann.ac.il/deaf-info/home.html

To get more information about the WebMail service, send a message
to <web-mail-admin@ebay.com>, which is read by humans.

Subject: 5. I am not proficient in English

Sorry, tough luck. I hope that in the future there will be translation
servers on the Internet and/or multilingual versions of the WWW pages
in which you are interested.

If you can set up in your country's network a translation server for
machine translation of documents from English into your country's
language, it would be a very worthwhile project.
