US Operator Takes Major Stake In Indonesian GSM Venture 

Nynex of the USA has taken a 23% stake in Excelcomindo, an Indonesian GSM 
joint venture.
Excelcomindo will launch GSM service in mid 1996 and plans to reach large 
Indonesian cities
throughout the country by 1998.Total addressable population is 195 
million in Indonesia, where
telephone penetration is 1.8%. The country currently has between 100,00 
and 150,000 subscribers
on four regional analogue networks and two recently licenced GSM 
networks.Nynex is partnered
by PT Telekomindo, Mitsui of Japan, Asian Infrastructure fund and several 
local investors.
