From csch@NetCS.COM Wed Dec 06 22:10:55 1995 Newsgroups: alt.cellular-phone-tech,uk.telecom Subject: EMail <-> GSM SMS Gateway - Testrun announcement From: csch@NetCS.COM (Clemens Schrimpe) Date: 6 Dec 1995 22:10:55 GMT Hello all - I am very happy to announce the official test-run of our EMail <-> GSM SMS gateway until the end of the year.[ RadioPhone NOTE: Its still operational 3/1/96 -- drwho ] Unless your service providers charges for SMS, there will be no additional costs involved during the test. The system uses a direct link to an SMSC of a major European GSM Network. It is able to forward mails/short messages in both directions as well as a number of other features (paging calls via phone, database query functions and others). If you are interested in trying the latter, please contact me through EMail. A WWW Interface with enhanced functionality is available, but not yet open to the public due to ongoing political considerations. If you try to use the gateway, please send me a short notice on whether you succeeded or not, stating which network you have subscribed to as well as which network you were logged in when trying. In case of problems, please mail time/date and MISDN¹ number of the Mobile Terminal involved. (¹ this is your mobile phone number including country-code and PLMN access code, e.g., 491722345678 for a German D2 number) Be aware, that presently all conversations will be monitored to avoid excessive use or abuse of the system (i.e., unsolicited mass advertisement, etc.)! We reserve the right to "blacklist" everyone without notice as well as to terminate the whole service without prior announcement!!! Finally, this is how it works: Internet -> GSM SMS: Mail to @SMS.NetCS.NET ! If there is a non-empty "Subject:", it will be sent. Otherwise the mail-body upto 640 characters will be sent. Example: held_41> mail 491722100000@SMS.NetCS.NET Subject: Testmessage - pls. ignore! EOT Null message body; hope that's ok held_42> GSM SMS -> Internet: Send a Short Message to 450502304 via the SMSC @ +491722270000 in the following format (REGEX): user@domainname: message Example: CSCH*NETCS.COM HELLO, THIS IS A TEST NB: The '@' can be replaced with a '*' for phone, which don't have an '@' sign on the keyboard. The ':' is optional! There can be only a single receiver at the present time. You'll receive an acknowledgement message, if your mail was accepted. You SHOULD receive this message in ENGLISH, unless you have a German, Swiss or Austrian network subscription, in which case you'll get a GERMAN message. You are welcome to translate the English message into your native language, if you are neither from DE, AT, CH, UK, IE, to help me to support your fellow countrymen ;-) Please EMail me in this case! I still need to find a NUMBER of bugs in the code, especially in the code dealing with messages in various languages. There are more features to come during next week, when I will introduce receipt notifications, deferred delivery options, registering "Real Names" to protect your mobile identity, etc., just to name a few. AGAIN: Please keep me informed about your failures and successes, including all relevant information. I'll try to keep track of what is available when where to whom for what cost etc. Thank you for your cooperation! Clemens Schrimpe, NetCS PS: Please don't try to send to the German D1 or Eplus Networks (prefixes 49171 and 49177), as these are administratively blocked - sorry! -- INTERNET: csch@netcs.com WWW: http://www.netcs.com/PEOPLE/csch.html PHONE: +49-30-89 660-0 FAX: +49-30-89 660-999
