dFile Shareware version.

This Shareware version provides all the facilities of dFile but nag screens will
encourage you to register and obtain the full version.

Release 1.6

This version of dFile is for Standard or Enhanced mode Windows version 3.0 or later.

The dLSoft Install program will install dFile into a user specified subdirectory.

The distribution disk contains compressed files which must be decompressed
by the install program before use. FILES WILL NOT WORK IF COPIED
WITHOUT USING THE INSTALL PROGRAM.

To install this software:
Run the INSTALL program on this disk from within Windows. When using Pogram
Manager, insert this disk in your drive (A: or B:), select RUN from the FILE
menu, and type A:INSTALL (or B:INSTALL) and click on OK. INSTALL will prompt
you for an installation directory name.

Please note:

In order to minimise the risk of a new user accidentally deleting
large number of files, dFile is shipped with all confirmation
turned ON. Thus when you attempt to copy, move or delete files
you will be prompted for confirmation of your action. When the
operations effect directories such confirmations may be annoying.
You are advised not to turn off the confirmation requests until
you have gained some familiarity with dFile

Three additional facilities have been added in response to requests
from users. First, the RUN command in the FILE menu now results in
the display of a dialog box showing the currently selected filename,
if any. This permits the user to enter any filename (full pathname
is required) for a file he wishes to run. Double clicking on a filename
in a directory window with the left mouse button causes dFile to attempt
to run the file as described in the manual.

A READ ONLY menuitem has been added to the EDIT menu. Selecting this
item allows the user to change the Read Only status of ALL currently
selected files, either to Read Only or Not Read Only (ie Normal). A
dialog box appears indicating the current pathname and providing the
options of changing to Read Only or to Normal. Note that changing the
Read Only attribute does not effect the setting of other attributes,
such as SYSTEM or ARCHIVE. Also note that if the current setting of
the attribute options does not permit the display of Read Only filenames
then making a group of files Read Only will cause their names to disappear
from the directory window.

Floppy disks may now have their Volume labels change, by selecting
LABEL FLOPPY from the EDIT menu. Note that hard disk volume labels
may not be changed from within dFile.

Floppy disks may also be formatted, by selecting FORMAT FLOPPY from
the EDIT menu while a floppy disk is selected. The format option operates
by issuing a DOS format command, and the DOS file FORMAT.COM must be
within the path specified by your DOS PATH. If FORMAT.COM is not on the
PATH, and error message will be generated.

dFile now contains Compress and Decompress items in the EDIT menu; these
allow files and/or subdirectories to be compressed or decompressed for transfer
to other machines or storage on a network drive. Compressed files will be about
half of the size of the original file - although this will be highly dependent on the
type of file. The compress/decompress options are also available within the
Copy/Move confirmation dialog. See the HELP system for details.

dFile now contains three additional information items within the
OPTIONS menu. One, SYSTEM INFO, provides information about the Windows
environment in which dFile is running. Another, DRIVE INFO, enables
details of disk drives to be displayed; the drive is selected by double
clicking on the appropriate drive letter in the information dialog box. Finally the
Macros option allows the user to define and run Macro commands for
copyting, moving, deleting, compressing and decompressing files and/or
subdirectories. See the HELP system for details.

Selected items may now all be deselected using the DESELECT item of the
Select menu. This, and a number of other frequently used commands, have
accelerator keys noted alongside the menu command.

This version of dFile contains a full HELP system which may be accessed
by selecting help from the menu bar.
