English-speaking players: What follows is a translation of the
documentation included by Frank Sonnabend within his dice game,
Dreissig. Dreissig is a high-quality game of skill and judgment
for monochrome ST systems. It is distributed as shareware, as
described below. 'Dreissig' is the German word for the number
30. Following Mr. Sonnabend's documentation, the translator has
added translations to assist you with alert boxes and such during
the game. Please print out these instructions to avoid confusion
during play.

                            Dreissig

Dreissig is a dice game for 1-6 players. In the single-player
mode the computer takes the role of the opponent.

At the beginning of the game, each player has exactly 30 points
in his bank ('Konto'). Each player now takes a turn with the
dice. To do this, he clicks the dice box ('Wuerfeln'). Then he
chooses those dice which he wants to hold onto (reason dictates
that these are always those with the highest point values!).
Then he clicks the dice box again. This scenario is repeated
until there are no unchosen dice left (each time, the player can
choose as many dice as he likes!) If he doesn't want to toss the
dice again, the player clicks on the end-of-turn box ('Zugende').
The goal is to accumulate at least 30 points in each turn. If
this is successful, one has defended his point-bank. If one tosses
fewer than 30 points with the dice, the deficit will be subtracted
from the bank. If one has reached over 30 points, one can
try to harm his opponents. This happens in the following way:

Assume that the point total is 34. That means that 4 dice-dots
too many were tossed. Now one tries with the following toss to
throw only 4's. For every 4 tossed, 4 points are subtracted from
the opponent's point-bank. If a player has no points left in his
bank, he goes to the gallows and loses the game. The point total
of the victor is recorded on a pointlist so that the best player
can be determined after a series of several games.

Note: If you make a mistake with the choice of dice, all you have
to do is click on the cancel box ('Irrtum').

The game is easier to play than to explain, but it makes for
great fun especially with several players.

                          Program-Info

This program is released as Freeware. That means that is can be
copied and given to others at no charge.

If you enjoy this game, I'd appreciate a small contribution of
10DM. If you send that, I'll send you the printed source code
listing. If you'll send me a blank disk, I will gladly send you
the original source code. In addition, contributors will receive
new updates and information about new programs by me (at the
time, I am finishing them at the rate of one per month).

Many Thanks!

Additional Information for English-speakers:

When the game first loads, the opening screen asks for the number
of players ('Anzahl der Mitspieler'). Click the appropriate box.
Then the program will request the name of each player ('Name des
1. Spielers', etc.). Type in each player's name and press
<Return> after each name. You'll move then to the playing
screen. Boxes on the left side of the screen are:

'Anfangen'--Begin
'Anleitung'--Introduction (translated above)
'Spiel-Info'--Program Info (translated above)

To begin play, click 'Anfangen'. In the center of the screen are
three more boxes, as described above. The first player then
clicks the 'Wuerfeln' box to toss the dice. He clicks directly
on the dice to choose at least one from each toss. The program
will instruct:

'Wuerfel, die zaehlen sollen, anklicken oder Zugende.'

meaning:

"Click on the dice that should count or click on 'Zugende' to end
your turn."

With each toss, the computer totals the number of dots on the
dice and displays the total:

'Augenzahl'=Number of dots ("eyes")

When a player achieves greater than 30 points in a turn, the
program will instruct him to try for single dice of a certain
number (that number is the player's point total minus 30). For
example, if the player's score is 33, the instruction in the dice
box will say:

'[Player's name], bitte Dreien [3's] als Abzug fuer [Opponent's
name] wuerfeln!'

When all but one player has been eliminated, an alert box will
come up to announce the winner. Click 'Weiter' ("Continue") to
go on. The point totals are displayed. A further alert box
asks:

'Wollen Sie:' = Do you want to:
'1. Weiterspielen?' = 1. Play another game?
'2. Spielernamen aendern?' = 2. Change the player's names?
'3. Zurueck zum Desktop?' = 3. Go to the desktop?

Happy gambling!
