After the success of Anodyne's CDWriter audio package, many users' suggestions have been taken aboard for CDWriter 2. ** CDWMAIN.GIF ** ** CDWSORCE.GIF ** CDWriter 2 can write contiguously from a mixture of source media within the same compilation, including Jaz drives, and other CD-ROM drives (which means direct CD-to-CD copying, even from multiple CDs). Media change of any source other than the active one during writing is also possible, should files be spread across different cartridges, for example. The program can auto-detect which hard disk partition has the most free space, and stream all source files into a large write buffer file on this partition. Useful if you're unconfident of the sustained read performance of any source drive. Last of all, the pause gaps can have individual values as well as the usual global setting. To facilitate compiling, audio files and the gaps between may be auditioned via the popular Aniplayer (for Falcons and TTs upwards), an unregistered copy of which is bundled. CDWriter 2 is only available as part of the CDWriter Plus v2 package, but users may upgrade from CDWriter v1 (audio-only) or CDWriter Plus v1 (audio and data back-up). Congratulations to our winner, Chris Korycinski, in Perth who wins the State Art CD Album and single collection comprising: ** CD prize cover images overlapped (from AC#14) ** ** ART1.JPG ** ** ART3.JPG ** ** ART4.JPG ** ** UL ** * Informal Music - Ancestors of Sound * Closer - Lessenberry and the Ancestors of Sound * Sensual Assasins - Bernadette Carmin and Paul Mex * Slaves in Heaven - Layla Kaylif and the Ancestor of Sound ** /UL ** The correct answers to the competition questions are: ** UL ** * What does Paul use for his sequencing and audio production work? [a] Falcon030 * When was Mex One Recordings established? [b] 1989 * In which English southern-coast beach resort town is the studio located? [c] Brighton ** /UL ** Chris has already received his CDs and recently replied: "Thanks for the CDs. As music is a major interest it's always good to hear something new. The local college runs one of the few rock music courses which qualify for grants so Perth unsurprisingly has a healthy amateur music scene." ** ART2.JPG (from AC14 feature) here ** The five runners who also receive a copy of Slaves in Heaven by Layla Kaylif and the Ancestors of Sound, are: ** UL ** * P Higgs, Durham * S Davies, Gwent * K Millan, Cambridge * G McDermott, Dumfries * J Roberts, West Sussex ** /UL ** --- STNICCC 2000 In December 2000 the 10th anniversary reunion of the ST NEWS International Christmas Coding Convention will take place, appropriately dubbed STNICCC 2000. All attendants of the original event, as well as scene members who have carved their name in the Atari ST/TT/Falcon hall of fame in the past ten years, are invited to check out the official web site at: http://stniccc.atari.org Email: cronos@atari.org --- ** MDP/GIF here ** For years programmers have complained about the lack of English MagiC programming documentation. MagiC author, Dr Andreas Kromke, didn't have time to do the translation. Following a discussion in the comp.sys.atari.st newsgroup John Whalley offered to co-ordinate and host a "community project" where translators could work on bite-sized chunks but this didn't take off. However, prolific TransAction crew member Peter West took up the project and translated the entire archive which is an enormous effort. Thanks to Peter's efforts the complete programmer's documentation for MagiC 6.10 is now available in English. The documentation will be included on the next evolution of the renegadeCD and are also available for download from: http://www.whalley.demon.co.uk/atari/mdp/ --- ** boxout ** ** Memorandum font ideally ** Atari Sightings... Gary Bainbridge reports there's an Atari ST (or Falcon) on the cover of Fat Boy Slim's album inside the CD book. Stephen Strowes reckons the video of beat combo Bran Van 3000's "Drinking in LA" (the music for the current Rolling Rock Beer TV Ad) features a guy using an Atari ST/Falcon. It only appears briefly and they smash it up towards the end! Paul Glover spotted a couple of STs spotted on stage at Reading this year, I think it was Elastica and Sebadoh, but I could be wrong - it was a long weekend. Oh, and Atari Teenage Riot, but they don't seem to use Ataris any more! ** /boxout **
