CHAPTER ONE - THE STORY BEGINS

Our story begins on the 1st September 1999. On this seemingly calm day
in the Essex town of Colchester, a very bewildered Atari Computing
editor sits down at one of his various desks in the household. He has
just received several articles to be published in the last edition of
AC, and as a result is feeling a little under the weather that all his
and others hard work on the magazine has come to an end.

Over the last few months, sales of the magazine has declined to such
an extent that it was impossible for AC to continue. It took awhile to
come to the conclusion to stop production of the magazine.
Contributors of the magazine were first told of it's fate, with the
rest of the readers knowing in AC 14. The first reaction of many was
"How can we stop this?", but after looking at the figures again, it
was certain that the end was drawing near.

One article was by an anoymous person. Joe Connor skimmed through the
document, and scowled to himself about the incorrect use of the Atari
Computing style. A program relating to the article was also included,
and feeling curious, Joe activated the virus checker before running
it. Not much occurred as a result, and the editor wondered what the
whole thing was about. After reading the document again, he dismissed
it and deleted the thing - there were far more important articles for
the last issue.

Several of the important regular columns followed, and as usual
little editing was required of these now experienced reporters.

Editing of AC15 had been completed and was currently in the process of
being printed. The Reader Disks were now being completed, and Joe
copied the last of the regular column's needed software to the disk.
After this, he juggled around with the disk to be user friendly, and
copied the master copy to the other several hundred disks to be sent
out.

A week later AC15 was sent out with the completed Reader Disks. By the
end of the year AC16, the final issue, was sent out, and everything
was quiet in the Atari community... for a little while.

CHAPTER TWO - THE MENACING PHANTOM

As the 31st of December 1999 rolled onto the 1st January 2000 a very
hung-over world awoke.

Several PC owners with very old machines found that none of their
equipment worked anymore. Some 3rd world countries were without any
power.

Britain, on the whole, was fine for the while. Only until work resumed
would anyone realise the extent of the Y2K bug.

This is where you come in. Joe will inform you of what's going on
around him in this text, and then it's up to you to decide apon what
you want him to do. The story will change according to what you tell
him to do.

A list of options will now follow. Simply enter the number
corresponding to what you want him to do, and press [Return]. The
story will then resume.

What do you want Joe to do?
    1) Turn on the TV
    2) Check for any e-mail
    3) Go back to sleep
