DSPMIPS.TOS ----------- This small program simply tells you the MIPS rating (Millions of Instructions Per Second) of your Falcon's DSP. Anyone with an accelerated DSP might want to use this to indicate what kind of improvements have actually been made. In other words if you get 150%, then it's likely that your DSP is operating at 48Mhz. If you get 100%, then it is running at the standard 32Mhz and isn't accelerated. If you get less than about 98%, then you should perhaps start to be concerned. This should most certainly not happen unless something has mucked up the machines innards & either upset the DSP or possibly the MFP. A healthy DSP should indicate 16 MIPS (100%) or more for the first figure in the test... Three tests are performed: a) Truly parallel instruction / data fetching (0 waitstates). b) Partially parallel instruction / data fetching (1 waitstate). c) Non-parallel instruction / data fetching (2 waitstates). The reason for presenting such detail is to help indicate any problems which might be leading to extra waitstates inside the DSP - all three % values should be the same for a correctly working DSP. The MIPS ratings will always vary. Doug @ BSS.
