Directions for Using Soft-PC

Create a folder on your hard drive and put all the Soft-PC files in it,
except the *.FNT files.  Put the *.FNT files into a folder called softpc 
on the c:\ drive.  Load the file softpc.cfg into an editor and make the 
following changes:

If the file c_disk.hdf is ever lost or damaged, it can be recreated.  It 
should contain the drive designation of the drive that has been physically 
formatted as a IBM PC boot drive.  You should have this file even if you 
have no IBM boot formatted hard drive.  I am not totally sure that this is 
correct, but I am reasonably sure.  Anyway, the file should look like 
this:

Make sure that before you run SOFTPC.PRG that you run GETREZ.PRG first.  
If you are using Soft PC without having formatted your drive as a PC boot 
drive, you will need to insert a DOS boot disk in drive A.  Run Soft PC.  
The "Error Panel" will come up.  Choose "Setup", then choose Cancel from 
the file selector.  The system will try to locate the PC boot drive, but 
will not find it.  You will be back at the Error Panel again.  Keep 
selecting "Setup" and then "Cancel"  until the program gives up and loads 
DOS from drive A.  I understand that this program actually works pretty 
well when you have formatted a PC boot drive (and you don't have to mess 
with it like this).

The program uses the printer port fine, but I can't get it to make the 
serial port work.

The IBM AT emulator for the Atari Falcon030 and TT030.  With Soft-PC and a 
TT030 or a Falcon030 (that ran the program GETREZ_4.PRG before running 
Soft-PC.PRG), you can have a display resolution of 640 x 480 with 16 
colors.  It even works with ScreenBlaster!  

You can boot without any problems using a DOS boot-disk (system disk).  
DOS 3.20 and 3.30 were tested successfully.  Hard disk partitions are 
being emulated and HSF data are being created.  

The menu data is pretty confusing, so you should create a HSF file and put 
it under Soft-PC as C:.

Now you have to install the boot drive as a DOS system disk or the 
emulator will not work.  This might be possible with the installation 
program provided on the DOS system disk.  Otherwise, run the DOS program 
FDISK.EXE to format the hard drive so it will be ready to receive the DOS 
system data.  Then, with "FORMAT C:\S", install the DOS system to your C: 
drive.  Don't worry - just the HSF data will be formatted.

Use  the "Clr/Home" key to activate the GEM menu.

Mickysoft Mouse can be installed in the GEM menu to emulate the PC mouse

How fast does it  run?
It has a Norton Factor of 1.0 when run on the Falcon030

How Safe is it?
Program crashes are rare.

Windows?
No please!  But, if you absolutely have to - try it.
