What is BOAST?

Well, in my time in the ST world, I've realized that there are MANY really
great programs out there which are virtually unusable for about half of the
ST community.  That is really a shame.  Why should so many good programs be
unusable?  Simply because their authors are German, so they naturally write
their programs in their native language!  Sadly, this leaves out the entire
English-speaking ST community!

Therefore, armed only with an uneasy knowledge of German, Cassell's German &
English dictionary, and copies of Carlos Varella's CV-Translator, JOVE,
Marcel, and Michtron's Utilities, I am attempting to translate what I
consider to be the best of these German Shareware and Public Domain programs!

I must stress that I am in NO WAY responsible for the performance (or lack
of it) of these programs!  If they kill your machine, don't blame me!  All
will have been tested on my MegaSTE 4/50 and my 1040STf and that's IT!
However, since I use all of these programs on a regular basis, I CAN tell
you that I THINK they are pretty much bug-free!

Also, please note that I am NOT the one you should be thanking for the
creation of these programs!  All are the result of a great deal of hard work
on the part of their authors!  I doubt that I spend 1% of the time and
energy working on translating one of them compared to their original
authors!  Therefore, I BEG YOU, please REGISTER these programs as instructed
in the documentation!  The authors depend on all of us for gratitude, not to
mention a pack of floppy disks from time to time!  :-)

If you DO want to thank me, please feel free to send along gifts of
software!  Perhaps you have discovered some gem (pun intended) which I
missed!  I'll accept UUENCODEs emailed or plain old floppys snail-mailed.
But PLEASE register with the original author too!

If you do register any BOAST program with your email address, I'll put you
on a mailing list and will send out a notice whenever I translate another.

So what is BOAST?  Well, it's a cute acronym for the Best Of Atari ST
shareware!  It's just my little contribution to the ST community. I love all
of these programs and thought they deserved wider distribution.  Please, if
you speak a language other than English, translate these and other great
programs into your native language!  Share the wealth!  Spread the word!

Wherever possible, I have attempted to attain permission from the original
author.  However, sometimes this has not been possible.  In these cases I
have noted this in the translated documentation and would very much like to
be put in contact with the author!

The current list of BOAST software includes:

WINCOLOR - a replacement for Atari's WCOLORS CPX which allows more
           flexibility in window coloration - goes great with WINX!
HD_FREE - a great little CPX which shows the amount of disk and memory space
          free in a useful bar-graph form
HSMODA02 - the most talked-about serial port patch!  a modular, configurable
           system for all ST/TT computers
UPoint - a full-featured UUCP program for the ST
