FFF has started in a vary small way at present. We are restricted by the UK's Data Protection Act. We are using the non-profit making club exemption. The problem with being exempt is that you can do almost nothing with the data without the written permission of the people on it. The licence that would remove these restrictions costs ukp75 for three years ($120ish). The following is the speil: Falcon Fact File 11 Pound Meadow The Green Whitchurch Hants. RG28 7LG UK The Falcon Fact File is a free to join Membership Club set up to encourage users to help users. The completed form should be returned to us with a High Density disk and stamped return envelope. The members details will be added to the FFF and the disk returned along with a selection of the best Falcon PD and Shareware to fill the disk. The file itself is a NameNet Address Manager data listing of all members. The version of NameNet sent, apart from displaying the FFF is also a demo of the shareware version of NameNet. Members can register at special rates if they wish to use it for their own records. The FFF is updated monthly and the PD is refreshed quarterly, members can upgrade at any time by returning their disk (yep, with return postage!) If a member is thinking of buying a new word processor, find a member who has the one they are interested in and give them a call to ask what they think of it. Or if they have just bought a printer and having trouble setting it up with their W/P, look for a member with the same or similar set-up and call for advice. In this way they will soon build up a merry band of contacts (Lincoln Green tights optional!!!) with similar soft/hardware and general computing interests. We are not a commercial organisation or sponsored in any way, therefore it is imperative that stamped return postage (or international prepaid voucher) is supplied with all correspondence. ========================================================================== Falcon Fact File 11 Pound Meadow, The Green, Whitchurch, Hampshire. RG28 7LG The Falcon Fact File is a Membership Club set up to encourage users to help users. If you fill in the form and return it to the above address with an unlabelled, high density, disk and SAE, (don't forget the stamp!) your details will be added to our NameNet Database and you will be sent the latest Falcon Fact File. The file will come with a shareware version of NameNet (with the chance to register or purchase the Pro version at a discount) and some useful utilities. Once on the file you can contact other members for advice, eg. you have a new program and need help to set it up with a particular type of printer, find a member who already has that set-up and call them - at a reasonable hour! If you have any PD or Shareware that would be of use to other members, pop it on the disk that you send to us. Use back of form if there is not enough space in any particular field. ============================================================================== Surname:_________________________________ First Name:_________________________ Address:______________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ PostCode:________________ Phone:_______________________________ When Available:_________________________ Email:________________________________________________________________________ Hardware: Falcon030 TOS Version:___________________ RAM:_____________________ Hard Drive: Int:_________Mb. We are at present consulting with members about electronically distributing the FFF as an encrypted ZIP file. The password would be given out on receipt of the form. Originally we thought that there would be very little international interest because of the cost of phone calls. Telephone calls are expensive this side of the atlantic. However some overseas people want to be involved on a correspondence basis. Return International postage for disks can also be a problem. However the three of us: Colin Fisher-McAllum, Keving Beardsworth and myself are keen to get something going electronically. Colin is on NeST and I am on Cix. Cix has a thriving Atari conference (atari.st with a busy atari.st/falcon conference). I don't know if you are able to access this over the InterNet without paying charges but it might be worth trying telnetting cix.compulink.co.uk to see what you get. If you should get in then "join atari.st" Ironically I do not myself have a Falcon computer. My interest is that I publish a shareware address manager called NameNet. I have made available a version of this to members. The Falcon Fact File is a read_only NameNet file. Sorry if this all seems a bit negative (but it is at least long!) If you want to join then you are very welcome. Colin needs a physical signature. If you send hime the form filled in with a disk and some International reply coupons then you will get your disk back with the file (and some PD). Thereafter we can update the file via Email. regards Roger Derry
