Cogswell College is doing some production work right now with a pair of Falcons at this time; I'll touch base with James Grunke and see if he can give us a report on how they're doing in a professional environment. -Bill ============= Falcon030 Bundled Software Bulletin =============== Falcon030's with Hard Drives are currently shipping with the following software: o MultiTOS o SpeedoGDOS o Landmines o Breakout o Calappt (Personal Time Manager, Telephone Book/Dialer) o ProCalc o Talking Clock They are supposed to have (many didn't because everyone was eager to get machines shipped to dealers quickly) a mail-in card that you mail to Atari to receive: o Atari Works (Personal Integrated Productivity Package) o System Audio Manager (Accompany System Keyclicks and Events with Digitized Sounds.) o Audio Fun Machine (8-band graphic equalizer and special effects processor.) o FalconD2D (Direct-to-Disk recording system with special effects and editing.) IMPORTANT: We know exactly which dealers received machines without the mail-in cards and they are being sent their cards this week. Users that purchased machines and did not receive these cards can contact the dealer in about one week to get their card. All you have to do is fill out the card (make sure you include your dealer's name and machine's serial number); keep the verification half, and mail the other half to Atari. Machines without Hard Drives will not be shipped with SpeedoGDOS, Atari Works, or FalconD2D. They will have everything else (including the hard disk utilities in case you have your own SCSI Hard Disk). The Atari Hard Disk upgrade kits will ship with Atari Works, SpeedoGDOS, FalconD2D, as well as MultiTOS, etc. on the Hard Disk. -Bill Rehbock, Atari Corp. ======================================================================= ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 2 Wed Mar 09, 1994 O-ZONE [Flakes] at 10:32 EST >I believe the Gribnifs were talking with Chris about making Geneva and PowerDOS >(the heart of PowerNet) work together nicely, but I don't know how far along >that has went. (The last time I used the network was to hook up directly with Chris' TT in Oregon, through his in- beta RS-232 accessory - it worked, I transferred files via my GEM desktop from his computer to mine and vice-versa.) One of the devices Powernet installs is a PRN: device, and there should be a print redirection utility that can allow some printing across a network. Direct DMA printing still doesn't work, I believe. Alt and Control only reset the Falcon when the DELETE key is doing its wacky "repeating." This only occurs on keyboard warm boots. Cold boots are fine. ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 5 Wed Mar 09, 1994 S.FARWIG [STAN] at 22:08 EST Further note on the Falcon 32Mhz accelerator/expansion board from Germany. I find use of the BRAINSTORM DSP JPeg Decompression Driver supplied with Studio Photo locks up when used with the 32Mhz board. While far from being tech knowledgeable, this causes me to wonder if this represents a simple conflict with the BRAINSTOR program or, much more seriously, if the 32 Mhz board is incompatible with the DSP chip. The BRAINSTORM program is the only one I have written to the DSP, so further testing is not possible. While we may be thankful for the vigor of the German and other foreign markets that results in support of and development for Atari machines, there is a great disadvantage in not having local representation to direct problems and inquiries to. And I have to discipline myself to stop needing to be the first kid on the block with the newest toy . Well, DrH, I have always used and admired ICD's software and much preferred it to Atari's, but it must be said in this circumstance, it's performance is superior, unless one gets a laugh out of not being able to boot the computer. And, since being forced to use Atari's, I must also say the computer hasn't hung once on a warm or cold boot as happened fairly regularly before, This is not to say I don't wish ICD's program was usuable. my best Stan ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 7 Wed Mar 09, 1994 ICDINC [Tom] at 23:25 EST Stan, Have you addressed this problem to ICD? The Brainstorm DSP JPEG decompressor is quite impressive. By the way, it WAS on GEnie once before, but now I don't find any trace of it! (re: hard drive problems) Well, maybe if developers weren't making products that were incompatible with ICD's software (e.g. Cubase Audio Falcon, and now this accelerator) in the first place... ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 11 Thu Mar 10, 1994 PG.MUSIC [PG-Kevin] at 08:30 EST You know it is really interesting how only the Germans can do stuff which doesn't like ICD's software. I don't have ANY trouble doing stuff which works fine with ICD's software (even low level interrupt, DSP, SDMA, or trap vector stuff). Maybe it is because I _USE_ ICD's software all the time, so any bug in my stuff which breaks under ICD will be caught and squashed before the smoke clears from my assembler. :) Stan, Well... To do a 'warm' reset: 1) Hold Control & Alternate down. 2) _Tap_ the Delete key. 3) Then release Control & Alternate. Holding the Delete key down too long causes the key repeat routine to kick in. And when it kicks in, you're in a system reset condition, which causes something to go "haywire". If you want to do a 'cold' reset, add RightShift in steps 1) & 3). Most people who have a problem probably press all the keys in the Control+Alternate+Delete sequence at the same time. You can still do that, but you need to be quick on the timing and light on the Delete key. Now what's very strange is that _I_ never ran into this situation with _any_ TOS version prior to TOS4. Just another quirk? ;) - Keith [TraceTech] ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 17 Thu Mar 10, 1994 J.KRACHT [James Kracht] at 20:20 EST Keith: On my 4 meg 520STe, I had the DELETE repeat problem. (:{ Grouch. ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 19 Thu Mar 10, 1994 S.FARWIG [STAN] at 23:14 EST Tom: I called ICD the day after I got set up (Tues) and learned from your electronic secretary that Atari support only happens on M-W-F. Yesterday I remembered at 12:05 Pacific; phoned fast and the Atari number didn't answer...sorry to be late. I will try tomorrow again. I didn't expect answers, since the board is so new, but maybe some ideas. And please understand, I don't interpet this as indicating that ICD software is at fault...the board may well be flakey (someone has to be a pioneer...but why me?) Here is what happened: At first the system froze on the loading of any program through X-Boot. Moving things around in the auto folder got Calligrapher to load all the way. But no matter how I shifted the auto folder around (within limitations imposed on loading by some programs), on going to CD-ROM graphics, it would boot through the intial loading of Speed of Light and freeze. I tried ICD Pro 6.4 and an old copy of 6.1. Sequence of programs in Auto (at last confiuration: X-Boot; MHZ32.PGR (to switch on 32 CPU, switch off 32/16 CPU); FAFA4.PRG (identifies presence of TT fast ram at 4M); NVDI; ScreenBlaster; ExenDOS: F2 Patch. I have delayed reformatting my six partition HD to satisfy Atari HD ideas, knowing all will be well with ICD (and happy I still have my Mega to access the two lost drives.) Dr.H I agree on the BRAINSTORM decompressor and was salivating to see what it would do at a full 32Mhz. Can't imagine why the DSP isn't more fully implemented after the BRAINSTORM demonstration. And I agree that programmers would do well to emulate ICD. PG~Kevin: Glad to be able to contribute something for a change. I'll continue to drop off notes as things develop. Aside from the two problems mentioned I am pleased with the performance, although, being a slow plodding tyoe, I have wondered if I should have spent that much for increased speed. Hi Grouch (:{]: The casing is designed to house the keyboard unit from ST- Falcon single piece design and an curly-cue lead is supplied to plug the old Falcon case (now a CPU unit) into the new keyboard. Alex says the lead stretches to 3 feet, if I remember rightly, but I haven't put it to the ultimate test. The keyboard housing isn't the last word in elegance for my tastes, but it's good. A piece of stout gray plexiglass covers the gaping hole where once the keyboard resided and looks good. I worried where I would put the two pieces (due to the slant on the Atari box, the CPU unit can't be used under a monitor) but I find the new keyboard hooks quite nicely to the top of the slanting plexiglass, is very stable and the angle is (for me) very comfortable for typing. Application? Well, I could never get very upset, as many other user did, that the Falcon isn't a two piece unit...so it didn't look like an IBM, that's all to the good as far as I'm concerned (although the mushy keyboard is inexcusable!!!) But there is a big advantage in terms of possible future expansion in having the additional space that separating the keyboard provides. Hope that all helps Stan ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 20 Fri Mar 11, 1994 B.SEMAAN [BOSEM] at 03:55 EST I've been too lazy to reinstall AHDI to verify for certain that ICD's software is to blame but since I've been running ICD's 6.2.3 HD booter I often have to reboot my buzzard 2, 3, or more times to get the system up. Sometimes it hangs with the ICD logo onscreen and sometimes it just bypasses the HD and goes straight to a default desktop (low rez, drive A & B only). Sometimes it boots right up the first time. The dice are rollin'. This is on a F030/14/63 TOS 4.04. It has 256 meg partitions. ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 49 Tue Mar 15, 1994 DMJ [dmj] at 23:05 EST Scott, A "cold" boot is like when you first turn your computer on. TOS has to check how much memory you have, let the hard drive spin up, etc. A "warm" boot is like when you reset the machine after the computer has already been on. TOS doesn't have to do as much work; most importantly, it doesn't completely purge memory. Reasons to warm boot: - You have a reset-proof RAM disk or other utility that is reset-proof that you'd prefer wasn't dumped from RAM. Reasons to cold boot: - You've just had a bad crash and you want to make sure everything is cleaned out to prevent problems. - You're particularly paranoid about viruses (some are reset- proof, but shouldn't survive a cold reset). - You DO want to dump a reset-proof RAM disk. CTRL-ALT-DELETE will warm boot. CTRL-ALT-RSHIFT-DELETE will cold boot. There are also utilities you can use that will force _every_ reset to be a cold boot. Hope this clears things up. ~dmj ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 50 Wed Mar 16, 1994 BBRADLEY [HOT DOG] at 02:08 EST To: See Flat The owner of this local company is a personal friend of mine. We both have Atari computers and we both like them. I use mine to drive the local DOS and MAC publishers nuts buy competing with them for print layout. (Atari publishing packages are not that sloppy and the price is better for what you get than anything on the other platforms). My friend the telephone guy uses his for all the usual tasks that people use other brands of computers for... word processing, spreadsheet, data base... and he likes doing some music stuff once in a while (Atari shines here too). He likes the easy to use interface of the Atari. He has a fleet of DOS machines at his office so he knows all about the wonderful things you can do with a command line if you like to sit and read manuals all day long. Trust me... you don't want to get him started about the ill of DOS unless you have an afternoon to listen to them. When he goes home at night to his Atari he can also use it with STalker to act as a remote terminal to his phone company machines. He likes the user interface of the Atari... I do to. And heck, with the DSP it should be a great voice mail machine for the price. There is a beginning voice mail package listed here on Genie as shareware with a starting price of $50.00 with hardware. I would think you could get a really nice Falcon voice mail package put together for under $2000.00... computer and all. The last total DOS voice package I looked at was more that double... almost triple that. If you can get everything you want from ONE dealer, you'd probably be better off buying a 1MB/no-HD machine and then have the dealer install one of the Falcon SIMM expansion boards (about $90-$100) w/ 16MB RAM (about $600 or so) and a 2.5" IDE drive of your choice (I think Sheldon @ Computer STudio keeps some 200+MB units in stock for this!) so that you don't void your warranty. A dealer MAY even install SIMMs and drives that YOU supply (so you can get the parts cheaper -- about $500-$550 for 16MB RAM, and an IDE drive for between $200 for a 125MB unit and $350 for a 250MB unit). There's a good chance that Atari may be moving to 125MB internal drives later this year as drive prices continue to fall and as manufacturers phase out <100MB drives altogether! Anyway, if you also try to get all of this from one dealer, they may give you a significant discount (maybe sell you CAF _at cost_! ). ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 72 Mon Mar 21, 1994 K.OLSON10 [KenO.] at 07:26 EST Carson: You might want to consider getting a bare falcon and putting it in a tower or rack. You could use the keyboard extension from ATY or contact TOAD or Sheldon to fix you up with a new box. A new box for the falcon would give you all sorts of room for your drives and boards of various kinds you might want to add. There is not much room inside a stock Falcon. It all depends on how you want to go with your setup - studio or portable. A stock Falcon is great for pick up and go. As far as AWorks goes. How much WordP, S Sheet and DBase are you planning to do? AW is a good buy because you get all 3 in one package & the learning curve is really short - of course if you plan to do a lot of sophisticated stuff with WP & DB then you might want to consider other choices Like pagestream & Caligrapher. If the later, I'd suggest you skip the internal 2.5" drive altogether. They're simply more expensive than adding an external 3.5" drive. The downside with having an external drive is one more box to cart around if you're moving the Falcon. So, if your machine is going to stay put most of the time I'd suggest the 1 meg, no HD version upgraded to 14(16) meg and an external drive as large as you can afford. Kevin, I'm sure the PPC chips will have to get MUCH less expensive before an Atari machine uses one. That's just the way Atari works. Today's delight was finding that the 32Mhz board evidently mugs SpeedoGDOS, at least when in conjunction with the word processing module in Atari Works. When the Mighty Sonic board is running, typing results in a series of smudges on the monitor and the same effect in the font display window when loading a font (at one point I managed to turn all the fonts invisable, but darn if I could duplicate that interesting effect). I turned off anything that might effect the monitor display, i.e. Screen Blaster and NVDI, but that made no difference. It also makes no difference if Atari Works and/or SpeedoGDOS are running in TT ram or not. I suspect the board gives SpeedoGDOS grief because when it is not installed, Atari Works runs fine with the board (using system fonts of course). To date the following problems with the Mighty Sonic 32 board seem identified: Incompatible with 1. Falcon Speed, 2. the DSP chip, 3. SpeedoGDOS. I wish the company's FAX would answer. Keith ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 113 Sat Mar 26, 1994 STEVE-J [DrHfuhruhurr] at 05:59 EST S.FARWIG - The Falcon030 'timing problem' is a problem with the system clock picking up interference or somesuch, causing a disturbance with the SDMA audio circuitry. So far, it's only been reported with Cubase Audio Falcon (and maybe other direct-to-disk recording applications), causing 'crackling' noises. Atari acknowledged it as a hardware problem (not a TOS or other software problem) and made a fix for it (they implemented the fix at the Falcon030 factor(y/ies) a few months ago). Anyway, I was thinking it was a DSP timing problem when I mentioned it to you, but that's not exactly so. K.HASAMA - You only need FAST SERIAL with the MSTE and TT030. Maybe you're using a comm prg that has code built in to improve flow control buffering, but Aladdin on _my_ Falcon makes a real mess of message captures without Fast Serial - plenty of missed and garbled characters. Keith H., I uploaded the Falconized version of Fast Serial this morning. The docs are in German, but I was able to make out that FPATCH2 is incorporated into the code, something I don't think would have been bothered with had there been no use for the program on the Falcon. Short of that, you can log on to GEnie manually with STalker 3, STorm, Connect or FTerm. Before I had LoadAlad I used to log on manually with STalker 3. I never had the problem you described of GEnie not recognizing your ID#. Make sure you've got your parity settings correct. Everytime it accesses that (?) part of the disk, it sounds like my harddrive is having seizures...like there's some little metal arm in there bouncing off the side of the case. Sometimes it seems like it powers down and then powers back up again... I've had the shielding problem fixed a long time ago, so I don't think that's what it is, though that'll be the first thing I mention if I can make it back to the dealer soon.. I have the 4/80 with TOS 4.04 and STalker. I asked here for help and got all of the usual suggestions to use any of 7 or 8 patches (serfix2, bconmap, etc.). None of these made a hoot of difference; Stalker refused to communicate using logon procedures or scripts, kept locking up, and so on. I got the message to switch the port to TT port 2 from serial and BINGO!! everything worked!! just as it did on the ST, no problems. Then, it got weird. One day out of the blue, Stalker just started spouting rubbish on all BBSs. I had made no changes at all to anything. I know there have been a couple of minor upgrades since then but the doc file on disk says it will format an IDE drive but when I attempt to do so I get a dialog stating something like 'formatting unavailable on IDE drives - partitioning only is available'. Not an exact quote, but the gist of it is accurate. The confusion I have is from the doc file stating format is available. I've heard some people refer to formatting as 'low level formatting' and partitioning as 'high level formatting'. I've often wondered if it that might be what the person who wrote the doc file was thinking or if the version I got was intended to have formatting as the docs state, but for some reason did not get it put in the program. After a discussion with Howard I found out that we only "high level" format IDE drives. This is the same a s partitioning. Because of our IDE experience on Amigas we found that it was too dangerous to low level format an IDE drive so it was never implemented in our Atari software. It is usually not necessary. If HDX does it and you need it, I would say use it. I seem to remember a few drives (IDE) that could become trash if you low level formatted them with the wrong values. - TOM - PS 2 GB per partition will be the max BGM possible on the Falcon. Don't zero the partition will-nilly. Edge should fix things. Al ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 174 Tue Apr 05, 1994 C.LABELLE [Tintin] at 22:10 EDT Wade, How many bombs do you get? If it's four, that sounds like the problem I was having at one point. The culprit was the Clipboard Manager CPX. I destroyed it, along with the Set Environment CPX, and everything worked fine ever since. I remember testing this, as soon as I put back CPX Clipboard Manager the explosions started when trying to run any program, unless I was using M-TOS. Tintin ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 175 Tue Apr 05, 1994 B.SEMAAN [BOSEM] at 22:54 EDT KenO, If you don't have DiamondEdge, ST Tools 1.93 is Falcon compatible and can probably fix you up. Bob ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 176 Wed Apr 06, 1994 GREG at 00:12 EDT Brian: Check out our new Photo Show Pro for the Falcon. Allows you to make a great presentation or slide show using Kodak Photo CD and true color BMP images. Has digital audio support too. As for interactive cross-platform support - stay tuned for more details in the coming months. ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 177 Wed Apr 06, 1994 REALM [Joey] at 03:08 EDT KenO, Opps... I should have been more specific. You could have run the MEDIC portion of Diamond Edge, it would have removed the file when it found it destroyed. It would be a good idea to run it now and make sure everythings OK with your directory. ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 178 Wed Apr 06, 1994 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 06:48 EDT I did a bunch of copying, etc., today, and my hard drive worked fine. No more problems copying from floppy to HD, either. It looks as though I'm out of the woods. Thanks to Sheldon and Atari for supporting my dealer in solving the problem. There is one strange thing, though. I wanted to check how full my drives were, and the drive information for E (I have C, D, E, and F) wouldn't come up. All the other ones worked OK. I tried it, moved files, tried it again. Nothing. Ken Van ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 179 Thu Apr 07, 1994 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 22:52 EDT I tried to use the SCSI Pro software as Tom had recommended (run the boot program and then the utility program), but it locked up when I tried to set the boot in the utility program. Same result when I tried the run the desktop program. I think I need to remove the Atari hard drive software first. Which programs are they and where are they? Tom, are you there? Ken Van ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 180 Fri Apr 08, 1994 S.WINICK at 05:58 EDT Ken, You'll only need to remove the SHDRIVER.SYS file from your boot partition and install the ICD booter to change to the ICD Pro Utilities. You'll find the SHDRIVER.SYS file in the root directory of Drive C. You can also run the HINSTALL.PRG and choose the remove option to remove the booter file. Sheldon (Computer STudio - Asheville, NC) ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 181 Fri Apr 08, 1994 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 07:09 EDT Sheldon, Thanks. I thought it was something like that, but I wanted to make sure before I munged things up really bad. Ken Van ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 182 Fri Apr 08, 1994 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 19:40 EDT The menu selector for Show Information still isn't function on one partition on my Falcon hard drive. Drives C, D, and F give their information as expected. Drive E gives no response. What could cause this? It seems rather peculiar. Ken Van ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 183 Fri Apr 08, 1994 B.SUSLOVIC [Brad] at 21:03 EDT Ken You may have to rebuild the partition info on that partition, with hd utilities. ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 184 Fri Apr 08, 1994 R.LUNSFORD2 [Russ] at 22:14 EDT Anyone, Is the Falcon capable of booting from an external IDE? On top of the (finally) (replaced) internal one that I will have back soon, I know someone who made me a *very* good offer on another....*eerrrr* scratch booting...make that can it just access an external IDE drive :)... Russ (who can't wait to continue his project) ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 185 Sat Apr 09, 1994 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 10:05 EDT Brad, If I rebuild the partition info will it delete my files? Ken Van ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 186 Sat Apr 09, 1994 A.FASOLDT [Al Fasoldt] at 23:41 EDT Ken Van, Yes and no. Rebulding CORRECT partition info won't change the file structure. But if the info does not match what's already there, all files will be lost. Al ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 187 Sun Apr 10, 1994 ICDINC [Tom] at 11:35 EDT Russ, IDE is a spec for internal drives and has a max cable length of around 18 inches. I don't know of any software supporting 2 IDE drives as of this time. We are planning it but have had problems. - TOM - ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 188 Sun Apr 10, 1994 R.LUNSFORD2 [Russ] at 14:01 EDT Tom, OK....thanks, and I trust you'll let us know when the problems go away? :) I'd really like to use this drive (good price (free)) ;^) Russ ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 189 Sun Apr 10, 1994 K.VANDELLEN [Ken Van] at 15:27 EDT Al, Thanks. When I use DbMan it changes the text color to an unreadable yellow. If I then run other programs such as PHA$AR the text color is yellow. If I run any program first before DbMan the text color is correct but DbMan changes it to yellow each time - even if I change it back via the CPX DbMan changes it to yellow. What gives? Is there a correction? Should I be posting this in the DbMan topic? KenO. :) ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 191 Tue Apr 12, 1994 B.SUSLOVIC [Brad] at 02:44 EDT Has anyone been having problems with brownish blotches on thier display? Jerry ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 193 Tue Apr 12, 1994 K.GERDES [TraceTech] at 20:15 EDT KenO., I think your problems with DbMan may be related to the Falcon's VT-52 handling [bungling? :) ], assuming it uses TOS output instead of GEM output. It's been awhile... Dr. Bob uploaded an archive related to this. See the file library. - Keith ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 194 Wed Apr 13, 1994 R.BEATTY3 [Buffalo Bob] at 06:27 EDT Sheldon (again!), I'm trying to do the master-slave thing (kinky!) with a couple of 2.5" IDE drives in a Falcon... Primarily for transfering lots of demos to a customers computer. But try as I might, I can't get the second drive to wake up. Any suggestions? Buffalo Bob ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 195 Wed Apr 13, 1994 S.WINICK at 06:43 EDT Buffalo Bob, >> I'm trying to do the master-slave thing (kinky!) with a couple >> of 2.5" IDE drives in a Falcon... We've always used the SCSI-2 chain to connect additional drives to the Falcon. I am definitely not an expert in the funky hardware connections used in an IDE chain. Isn't the device numbering handled by twisting the cabling in the ribbon cable? You might want to check with someone who is more 'into' the DOS world and has more experience with IDE devices. Whenever we've strayed into the DOS environment to assist a non-Atari customer, we've always come away screaming obscenities! ;-] Sheldon (Computer STudio - Asheville, NC) ------------ Category 30, Topic 3 Message 196 Wed Apr 13, 1994 PG.MUSIC [PG-Kevin!] at 08:07 EDT I don't think any Atari based software recognizes TWO IDE drives yet. No, the 'twisted cable BS' is used with floppies. I know. That REALLLY PMO when changing the drive "A" on my 486clown via hardware. You would think there would be a FOOD topic somewhere on GEnie in which the person could defend and enlighten (well, maybe thicken) their position (just what kind of American car is being custom built for a REAL Mac defender?). BTW, any rumors about PowerPC Ataris yet? Or is that gonna be a supercharged version from Dave Small? Anybody making a rack mount Falcon similar to what the old Hybrid Arts did? I tried rebooting with only the control panel ACC - I tried using a backup copy of the CPX. I tried one cpx at a time. I tried warm boots, cold boots. Same message. I have a Falcon, and in one of the folders within a folder on the hard drive, lies a blank-named file, with a size and a date beside it. I can grab the blank name and drag it to the trash can, but it says "cannot delete file". When I go to the "Show information" menu, and try to enter in a filename in the blank space, it says, "Cannot rename file". I cannot think of what to do, short of backing up the partition and zeroing it. Ideas? Stuart Lyster ------------
