Please feel free to evaluate Kandinsky for up to six weeks. If at the end of this period you can't bring yourself to delete Kandinsky you must register. Kandinsky may be freely distributed by PD/Shareware libraries and BBS's so long as all the files listed in 'CONTENTS.TXT' are included in the archive. ID file/s may be included in the archive. The software and documentation listed in the accompanying 'CONTENTS.TXT' constitute the English language version of 'Kandinsky' and are protected under international Copyright law. Kandinsky may only be included on magazine disks or CD-ROM disks with my prior written permission. The registration fee is either: 60.-DM For details refer to 'README.TXT' (end of this file). 30.00 For details refer to 'UK_USER.TXT'. ============================================================================ Why register? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you register you'll not only be supporting future Kandinsky developments you'll also receive: o A personal key to remove the registration dialog and unlock the registered user only features. o Comprehensive disk based manual explaining how to set up and use GDOS along with a complete reference guide to each command. o Enhanced zoom tools, offering total control over the drawing window. o Object rotation to an accuracy of one tenth of a degree. o PostScript export option, for compatibility with PC/Mac applications. ============================================================================ Brief overview of Kandinsky ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kandinsky is a powerful vector drawing program without equal on the Atari platform. You'll never be able to make full use of Kandinsky without the manual but here's just a few of the features you can explore: o All known GEM standards are supported, including the Clipboard, SpeedoGDOS, MultiTOS and the GEMINI-AV protocol. o Support for GDOS, Speedo GDOS and other GDOS replacements to handle GEM Metafiles. To save and print you'll need to boot using GDOS and a suitable ASSIGN.SYS which includes a printer driver and META.SYS. o Compatibility option to save GEM Metafiles without SpeedoGDOS commands to offer backwards compatibility for pre-Speedo applications. o Supports for VDI devices from No: 11 to 70 with dialogs (optionally) in windows enabling background events, ideal for MultiTOS, Geneva or MagiC users. o Borland BGI vector font support. o Undo works for almost all actions. o Directly reads GEM/3 Artline format files from the PC. o Objects remain fully editable after creation, e.g. text or arc angles. o Powerful alignment tools make it easy to position objects relative to each other. o CSV (comma separated value) support, exchange data with other applications. o IMG file handling as pseudo objects. o Drag & drop support, move objects between Kandinsky windows and the GEMINI alternative desktop. o GEMINI support, extended features for the GEMINI alternative desktop. o ICFS support, iconify windows even with pre TOS v4.x... o WINX support, enhanced window functionality... ============================================================================ Basic concepts ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kandinsky uses a different approach to the usual click & drag standard. It's a click-move-click action and offers a significant improvement over the traditional method as detailed below. Examples: Select the line drawing tool from the floating toolbox window and as you move the mouse over the drawing window the cursor changes to a crosshair ready for drawing. Left mouse click once and release to fix the start point, move the mouse and left click again to fix the end point. Try out a few other commands until you get the feel of the click, move, then click again approach which makes it possible to access the drop down menus, scroll bars, edit and grid tools in mid command. For example, you could start a line, use the scroll bars to move to a hidden part of the drawing, open the line attributes dialog, change the settings and complete the command with a final left click. The right mouse button is also used extensively in Kandinsky. During commands it's used to cancel most commands and between commands it's used to display the settings dialog for the current command, if provided. Bold dialog buttons contain Pop-up menus. Left click and release over the button to display the menu. Click on an option to select it or away from the menu to close it without making a selection. ============================================================================= Hardware/Software requirements and recommendations ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- o GDOS, NVDI, AMCGDOS or SpeedoGDOS needed to save or output drawings o Use NVDI for maximum speed o 512Kb RAM minimum needed to run Kandinsky o Runs on ST(e), Mega ST(e), TT and Falcon o Supports all resolutions from ST Medium (640x200) and all graphic cards ============================================================================ The author's details for direct registration mail, wish lists, gifts etc: #------------------------------------------------------------------# | | | Kandinsky, a vector drawing application for Atari 680x0 | | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | | | | Programmed from 1992 to 1996 by | | | | Uli Rogoderer | | | | Friedenheimer Str. 34 | | 80686 Mnchen | | Germany | | | | Internet: rossgod@iwb.mw.tu-muenchen.de | | MausNet: Ulrich Rossgoderer @ M | | | | Bank account | | Account No (BLZ): 701 500 00 (Stadtsparkasse Mnchen) | | Sort code (Konto Nr.): 54167028 | | | #------------------------------------------------------------------# How to get the latest Kandinsky version ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The latest versions of Kandinsky are available for anonymous ftp via the Internet on various servers: ftp.micros.hensa.ac.uk in the path: micros/atari/tos/n/n141/kand203e.zip ftp.uni-regensburg.de If you don't have access to the Internet you can: a) Send me a formatted floppy disk and a stamped envelope or enough money and I'll send you then the next major version of Kandinsky.
