The files ORIENT01.NIC through ORIENT12.NIC contain over 700 oriental characters as NeoDESK version 2 .NIC files. Why re-invent icons when a well defined standard set already exists, and has been in use for over a thousand years? These icons are group 64 to a file for easy handling. They were derived from the public domain "Hershey Fonts". The numbers under each icon are the codes assigned to the symbol when the font was created (sometime in the 1950's or 1960's, I believe). Although mostly Kanji, near the end there appears to be two other symbol sets, perhaps the modern phonetic sets for Japan? I know NOTHING about oriental languages. I would love for somebody who can read this stuff to replace the hershey numbers with the nearest on-word translation, so we can pick intelligent icons for our programs.
