CHKFMT ST Programmer's Manual CHKFMT

NAME
CHKFMT - display the format of a floppy disk

SYNOPSIS
     chkfmt [drive]

DESCRIPTION
chkfmt displays some of the configuration information in the boot sector
of the disk in the named drive, and the pattern of the sectors on the
first few tracks. If no drive is entered, chkfmt prompts for a drive
     to check.

Output lists number of tracks, sides per disk, sectors per track,
total sectors on disk, total size of disk in bytes, the useable space
on the disk, and the disk's serial number (ID). If the disk contains an
executable boot, that fact is noted. It then lists the sequence of
sectors on the first few tracks. Sectors which should result in a read
error are noted by an asterisk (*).

BUGS
chkfmt reads the track image and attempts to locate the sector
headers. It may be fooled by unusual formatting programs or
     copy protection schemes.
