Documentation for DCopy Shell v1.0 (c) 1989 Shareware by Keith Gerdes March 15,1989 Background ========== I shied away from DCopy as a utility program when its author (RW) denounced Twister/skewed formatting. As a member of the Double Click Format team, I found this to be ludicrous. So, when Larry Novak consulted me on disassemblers for a project I was hesitant at first. However, after using its assembly-coded arc utilities I realized that this program was far superior to the regular arc - ARC.TTP. Since then, I've beta tested the updates created by LN and haven't gone back to the regular arc once. Shell ===== After playing around with DCopy for a few months, I decided to try and adapt it to the mouse. Looking at the input routines in DCopy, I found a solution and began a menu shell. Work commenced on synchronizing both programs graphically and functionally while keeping in mind future updates. The finished product -DCopy Shell- is a "simple" GEM menu-based program that takes care of input for DCopy 3.xx with less than 10K of memory. All text-based menu selections are found in the GEM menu. To allow compatibility, keystrokes are passed through as normal. Menu selections are substituted by their equivalent keystroke and passed to the program. Accessories are now accessible under the menu bar posing "no" problems within DCopy- thus adding additional options not allowed before! Alert boxes replace most Yes/No/... queries of DCopy. To input "Quit" at the Yes|No|All alert: use 'Control'-No or hold the left mouse button-hold the right button-release the left. [your choice ;)] Some Yes/No queries can be answered with left(yes)/right(no) mouse button presses. (ex. Quit Yes/No) This produces a simulated keyclick. Also, after selecting screen off (-O) a mouse click will restore the screen. Sales Pitch =========== I was informed that Larry couldn't "legally" ask for donations rewarding his efforts. So I am persuing a backdoor approach, which will hopefully benefit both of us. A suggested donation of $15 or more is being solicited for DCopy Shell. In return, you will receive an exclusive version of DCopy that has an integrated shell- one file. Contributions will be apportioned as follows: 10% for mailouts 60% to Larry Novak 30% to Keith Gerdes Be sure to inquire about the possible availability of the source to the shell. It's coded with Hisoft's DevPac ST- now distributed by Michtron. Updates ======= Steps have been taken to ensure that future updates of DCopy will be "fully" compatible with DCopy Shell and vice versa. Registered users will be informed of their update procedure in the first mailout. Author credits (ST) =================== DC STuffer, DC Format, DC Utilities, DC Clock, HD Utilities and DCopy Shell.
