The Independent JPEG Group's JPEG software
==========================================

README for release 5 of 24-Sep-94
=================================

This distribution contains the fifth public release of the Independent JPEG
Group's free JPEG software.

This software is the work of Tom Lane, Philip Gladstone, Luis Ortiz, Jim
Boucher, Lee Crocker, George Phillips, Davide Rossi, Ge' Weijers, and other
members of the Independent JPEG Group.

IJG is not associated with the official ISO JPEG standards committee.

The jpeg-5 directory contains the original jpegsrc.v5.tar.gz archive ftp'ed
directly from ftp.uu.net. If you want to compile with gcc use the files from
this directory.

Recompiling the programs:

Copy gcc\jconfig.h and gcc\makefile.gcc to the jpeg-5 directory. Edit
makefile.gcc and set compiler options suitable for your processor config-
uration.

Enter:

 make -f makefile.gcc

Check if it works: (floating point part cannot be tested this way)

 make -f makefile.gcc test

NOTE:

   I used GCC 2.6.1 but 2.5.8 should be okay. Don't use 2.6.0 as it has
   some reported bugs (the last digit denotes patch-level so it's under-
   standable). By the way, the latest GCC version FSF has released is 2.6.3
   but this one hasn't been ported to the Atari/Amiga lines yet. Maybe
   soon(?).

If you found a bug then please let me know about it. (Every behaviour that
does not correspond to the original documentation is considered a bug.)
If it is not Atari-specific you may also report it directly to the
Independent JPEG Group.
