This program is SHAREWARE. Shareware lets you try a
limited version of this program to determine its suitability
for your purposes and its ability to function on your computer.

Distribution of the UNREGISTERED version of this program is
encouraged as long as it is copied in whole and remains
unaltered. No fee may be asked for this program itself, but
a nominal distribution fee may be charged for the diskette
used to distribute this software as long as the purchaser
of said diskette is informed that the fee for acquiring the
diskette does not constitute payment of the REGISTRATION FEE.
Vendors, see the file VENDOR.TXT for details.

This program is converted to the REGISTERED version by
obtaining a Registration Magic Key Number from Accidental Software.
See How do I register below for details. Minor upgrades to
this program can be installed over the old version to provide
REGISTERED USERS with the most current copy of the registered
edition of this program (no additional key number is necessary).
Check your program ABOUT information for the version number you
are using.

Distribution of the REGISTERED version of this software
without purchasing this program by paying the registration
fee or without a license granted from Accidental Software
is prohibited.

NOTE: You may have a version of this program without the
file "VBRUN300.DLL" provided. This is done in some cases
to save disk space and download time. VBRUN300.DLL is widely
available and in fact may already be in your windows\system
directory. Vbrun300.dll is required for this program to function.
It will be necessary to obtain a copy of VBRUN300.DLL in order
to install and run this program.

System requirements.

  1. The minimum system recommended for this program is
a 486/33 with 4 megs of RAM and windows 3.x.

  2. Chicken Soup and Such requires a great deal of processor
power to animate the sequences of this program satisfactorily.
Slower processors may not be able to handle the animation
requirements, paricularly if sound effects are selected.

  3. It may be necessary to disable the Screen Saver sounds on
     some slower processors.

What is this thing?

  1. Chicken Soup and Such is a collection of 3 weird
and somewhat tasteless animated sequences that operate
as a screen saver when your computer is not actively
being used. You can input up to 7 messages and select
which one to use (if any) while the screen saver runs.
You can also password protect your computer if desired.
The program can be started from its Icon or as a
     standard screen saver.

  2. Chicken Soup: This sequence consists of a beheaded chicken
running by, dripping blood on your screen as he goes.

  3. Bat Guano: (Only a demo provided until the program is
registered) This sequence consists of 2 bats flying by
your screen dropping bat guano as they go.

  4. Hog Heaven: (Only a demo provided until the program is
registered) This sequence consists of a hog digging up
your screen as he passes by. He can unearth trash as
     he goes.

How do I install the program?

      a. Start Microsoft Windows.

      b. From the Window's Program Manager, select FILE MENU
and choose RUN. For windows 95 select start then
         Run.

      c. Select Browse, then find the drive and directory to
which Tasteless Screen Saver is located on your
CD-ROM. Double click on the file "SETUP.EXE"
then click on the O.K. command button.

      d. Follow the prompts from the setup program.

How do I make Chicken Soup and Such the active screen saver?

   1. Select "yes" to the inquiry during installation that
asks if you want Chicken Soup and Such to be installed
as the current screen saver. This will place Chicken Soup
and Such as the current screen saver on your system.

   2. You can select Adjust from the Bridge to Miscellaneous icon
to access the Adjust Utility in the program. Turn the Chicken
Soup and Such screen saver function on or off as well as
selecting the amount inactive keyboard or mouse time before
the screen saver portion of the program starts.

Alternative method for making Chicken Soup and Such the active screen

selected as the current screen saver from windows.

      b. From MAIN select CONTROL PANEL.

      c. From CONTROL PANEL select DESK TOP.

      d. From DESK TOP select the arrow key next to SCREEN
	 SAVER.

      e. From the menu, select CHICKEN SOUP (sstless1).

Widows 95.................

      a. From the Desk Top right click on the screen background
         away from any icon.

      b. From the menu that appears, select Properties.

      d. From the saver list, select CHICKEN SOUP (sstless1).

the features of the program you want.

   3. Push the TEST button to run the screen saver program
      as a test.

   4. Select the desired inactive time for the screen saver
      program to implement itself.

How do I use the program from the Windows Program Manager?

   1. If the Chicken Soup and Such program group is not open, double
click on the Chicken Soup and Such program group.

   2. To run Soup and Such, double click its Icon.

   3. The program will start in the Set Up Mode. Select the
options you want, then push the Start Screen Saver button
      to start the program.

   4. Touch Start: Double click the Touch Start button provided

touch start hot corners. A green line will appear at the
bottom or top of your screen after exiting the setup portion
of the program. The green line indicates where to place your
mouse to start Chicken Soup and Such. Touch Start activation
can be terminated by moving the mouse pointer to the red line
      on the screen.

Click the Touch Start button in the menu bar of the setup
program to set the touch start options.

Select help from the Touch Start form for the option of
placing the Chicken Soup and Such screen saver program group
in the program manager's Start Up program group to have Touch
Start activate each time windows is started. If the Touch
Start ON check box is activated, Touch Start will reactivate
itself after the screen saver portion of Chicken Soup and Such
      has terminated.

Password and Security.

   1. The unregistered version of the program will not use Bat Guano
or Hog Heaven if a password is specified. The registered version
provides password protection for a all 3 screen savers. NOTE:
When password protection is used, the keyboard should be used
to initiate termination of the program, since mouse movement
may not supply an end message to the program.

   2. Windows 95 allows the user to select a program choice from
a list of active programs if the combination keys (ctrl + Alt +
Del) are pressed. This may provide a way to close this
program, effectively negating the security provided
by password protection. If you must have security with windows
95, you can force the computer to reboot if the (ctrl + Alt +
Del) key combination is selected. Insure you have a secure
password for entering windows 95 when the computer reboots and
your computer should be reasonably secure. To force the
computer to reboot with the above key combination you must
add the following line to the [386Enh] section of your windows
SYSTEM.INI file. NOTE: the SYSTEM.INI file can be found in
      your windows directory.

      localreboot=FALSE

Keyboard input.

  1. This program can be terminated by pushing any key on the
keyboard with the following exception. "M" will mute the
sounds for a particular screen saver if the Screen Saver
Sounds ON check box has been activated for that Screen Saver.
The mute funtion is not immediate, if a sound is currently
playing, it will continue. No additional sounds will be heard
after the present sound has completed playing. If Screen
Saver Sounds OFF is selected for that Screen Saver, the "M"
      key will cancel the program.

  2. If more than one of the 3 Screen Savers have been selected,
the program will run them one after the other. In this case,
pushing the "M" key will only mute the sounds for the Screen
      Saver presently running.

  3. The sounds can be turned ON or OFF for the setup portion of
the program and individually selected ON or OFF for each of
the 3 Screen Saver items in this program.
