The last release of CUDM was 3.81 and upgrades to this new system may be accomplished by using the Extract/Import utilities available with one of the registered versions. CUDM was renamed QuickCat because MSS felt that the public were having a problem recognizing the purpose of the program from seeing just the name. Many thought it was a file management system rather than a catalog system. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- QuickCat, the standard version supports 4,000+ records, depending on available memory. The Plus & Extended versions have an unlimited capacity. Reads any disk size, including CD-ROM drives interfaced through standard MS-DOS drivers. Reads and catalogs internal directories of compression libraries (ZIP, LHA, PAK, ZOO, ARC, etc). Many search capabilities including imbedded strings, wild card, etc. Allows 410 characters of comments per catalog entry. Supports 25/43/50 line screens. The Plus version uses standard DOS and EMS memory and has an unlimited capacity. (Actually about 3 billion records in each file) The Extended version uses protected mode Extended memory and have an unlimited capacity. The plus version is available only through registration. While you may freely share this program it is copyrighted material and if you continue to use it after a reasonable period (30 days) you are expected to register it with the owner. This problem is now fixed. 8-01-93 v 1.01 A few bugs surfaced in the first version and have been fixed as follows: o Update was deleting files from other diskettes. o The default sequence was not set when a new catalog was created. o The edit mask 'K' wasn't working. Placing a 'K' at the end of the edit mask will cause the resulting number to be output in kilo's. ###,###K and 123,456 will result in 124K. ###,###k and 123,456 will result in 124. o The mask assign to disk size was used for all numbers. Each number now uses its own mask. o Placing a catalog name on the command line wasn't working. - One problem remaining Manual deletion of a volume or archive won't delete entries below that level. Things to come. o Read comments from external sources. This includes an imbedded FILE-ID.DIZ and a .SDI file as well as the hidden DESCRIPT.ION file created by 4DOS. (Hopefully in version 4.0) o and much more. v3.81 06/26/93 o Joe Davis, a beta tester, discovered a printing bug which had been in CUDM for about 5 versions. The program ignored the user setting for line length in the Printer Layout Form. This has been fixed. o The print layout was changed to allow the number of lines printed in compressed mode to be set by the user. Most printers will allow 70 to 80 lines per page while printing compressed. v3.8 06/23/93 o Added a duplicates only view. There is also a new check box in the default dialog which alerts CUDM to automatically update the duplicate file index during updating. If this is not checked, the duplicate file index will become outdated each time you add, delete or update a catalog. The down-side is that maintaining the duplicate file index takes time and slows down the cataloging process. o Move the view screen dialog box items to submenus. This should make it easier to understand and use. o The volume view was one of those moved to a submenu. You can now select one or more volumes to view by hitting the space bar in the selection list for each volume you wish to see. The sequence will always be in volume/filename order. o Fixed the Print to file option. Be sure to set the destination in the printer definition submenu. o Most of the view options have been speeded up. With large files this is a big improvement. o The option to not expand archives wasn't working. This has been fixed and the interface has been changed. o The format for the configuration file (CUDM.INI) has been changed to text. The system maintains it internally and if it is altered it may not set internal switches properly. To fix a damaged .INI file merely delete the old one and do a Save Options in the Systems menu. o The brand call from the command line has been changed to /brand. The old /+ still works but will probably be phased out in the next version or two. o The status screen layout has been changed to allow room for the duplicate file count. v3.74 02/18/93 o CUDM would not read the catalog drive after labeling a disk. v3.73 01/19/93 o Fixed a problem when initiallly checking for a printer CUDM could hang if no printer was attached. o Replaced archive readers with faster version. v3.72 01/02/93 o Corrected a problem in the new print routine. o Added a protected mode version which uses extended memory. The allocated buffer used to store the current window was too small. NOTE *********** Older version of HIMEM.SYS will hang the system when it tries to allocate EMS. We recommend anyone having problems with system hangs replace HIMEM.SYS with the version dated 3-10-92 3:10 or later. o Turn the mouse back on in the main menu. o Fixed a new bug introduced in v3.52 Unable to save comments or categories. o Fixed another v3.52 bug Unable to delete current entry. o Overlay was only using standard RAM. Fixed it to use EMS. System is now much faster. o Fixed a problem with the way the registered version allocates and releases EMS memory. This should make system sharing easier. o Added universal hot keys. - AltX ... exits CUDM from anywhere in the program. - AltA or F5 ... Begins quick catalog from anywhere in the program. v3.5x 8/12/92 o Added support for 43 and 50 line screen modes if operating on an EGA or VGA screen. o The memo editor wasn't releasing its buffer when done. Eventually the program would have all of memory and choke. o Some macro systems take control of interrupt vectors which conflict with CUDM when trying to shell to DOS. Added code to restore standard vectors and replace them upon return from DOS. Also added code to completely shut-down the catalogs before shelling out. This will protect the files if a proper exit from the shell is not made. o Changed the volume label routines to add the label to the mediaID portion of the diskette boot record. (per DOS 4.x & 5.0) o Changed the record delete to take subordinate entries into account. Deleting the volume now deletes all archives and files from that volume. Deleting the archive deletes all files in the archive. o Moved the sequencing option to the menu. Improved the speed and interface. See ORDER on the LIST menu. o Added a DEFAULT dialog option to include the drive letter in the subdirectory field of the catalog record. Added this new flag to the configuration file, so the new configuration version is 3.42. o Added Update/Add abort. Hitting any key during operation will abort the Update/Add. o Added volume rename function. Alt-R will prompt for new volume name. o Added a Volume View option. (Kind of slow in this version, will be speeded up in next release) o Corrected a design flaw which slowed down large updates. o Corrected a bug in the comment routines which failed to deallocate memory after a comment was added. Systems would eventually run out of memory and lock-up. o Fixed a bug in Screen and Print Layout windows. Prompts were uppercase only. o Fixed a bug in the print routine which forced a "Printer head out of position" error 18401. v3.4x 5/12/92 o Changed the format of the screen and print layout windows to a dialog box to support buttons to save the layout. o Add/update routine was using the hard drive date as date for floppy. o Fixed a bug in the update that caused an update to increment the volume count. (Run the rebuild function to reset your count). o System wasn't saving comments properly during an update. o Added an Import/Export capability in the form of external programs available to registered users. These programs will be sent on the distribution disk and be available on the BBS REGUSERS section. o Fixed several minor bugs related to print and screen headings. o Add compressed and double column printing. o Add support for nonstandard page sizes. v3.3x 4/30/92 o Added ability to change catalog name within the default dialog box. o Fixed the command line to change the catalog name. The extensive nature of the problem warranted a new release number. o Incorporated the overlay file into the .EXE for easier product distribution. o Added duplicate file check into the view screens. o External export program available to registered users. o Replaced the viewer with a faster one. o Added string searching in comments and multiple imbedded strings in names. o Added the 'S' edit filter to split filenames. o Fixed a bug in the branding routine that left an extraneous set of catalog files behind. o Fixed a bug that hung the PC when the viewer was opened for volumes followed by files. o Improved speed in the user sort key function. o Added external record export feature. Available only in the Plus version. o Added a routine to rebuild the indexes.
