More specifically, SIM2NL provides SIMSTAT users access to powerful nonlinear regression program including such features as: o Fitting general equation to data values. o Can handle linear, polynomial, exponential, and general nonlinear equations. o You specify the form of the equation using normal algebraic notation. o Includes a large library of built-in functions including trig, exponential, log, Bessel, elliptic integral, etc. o Can estimate the values of up to 12 parameters. o Computes `F' and `t' statistics and confidence intervals for parameter estimates. o Uses a state-of-the-art "adaptive" minimization algorithm. o Can plot the data and fitted equation in high resolution on the screen or a HP LaserJet printer. o Can be used to find the root or point of minimum absolute value of a nonlinear function. (see NONLIN.DOC for more detailed information) It also provides NONLIN users access to Simstat features such as: o Easy to use interface with pull-down menu, context sensitive help, mouse support. o Direct access to Lotus, dBase, Ascii and SPSS/PC+ data file. o Weighting of cases. o Conditional cases selection. o Support of user missing value, variable and value labels. o Powerful spreadsheet data editor with conditional transformation, value recoding, cases ranking and sorting, etc. o Wide range of statistical analysis (descriptive, comparative, nonparametric analysis, bootstrap simulation, etc.). (see SIMSTAT.DOC for more detailed information) DISTRIBUTION ~~~~~~~~~~~~ SIM2NL is a freeware program. You are welcome to make copies of this program and pass them on to friends or post this program on bulletin boards or distribute it via disk catalog services provided the entire SIM2NL distribution is included in its original, unmodified form. A distribution fee may be charged for the cost of the diskette, shipping and handling. Vendors are encouraged to contact the authors to get the most recent version of SIM2NL and other related products. PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Requires Simstat 2.1 and Nonlin 2.3. NOTE: SIM2NL may not work properly on some CGA graphic adapters. INSTALLING AND RUNNING SIM2NL ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ To install the SIM2NL add-in program... - Make sure that both Simstat and Nonlin programs are properly installed in the appropriate directories. (Refer to each program's installation instructions). - Copy the program files (SIM2NL.EXE, SIM2NL.HLP and SIM2NL.HLP) to the program directory of Simstat. - Start Simstat, choose an empty command in the ADD-IN menu and press the enter key. An options panel should appear. Set the options to the following: File name: SIM2NL.EXE Description: Nonlin 2.3 Simstat add-in: Yes Type of analysis: Multivariate - Press F10 to accept those values. - Choose the SAVE OPTIONS from the FILE MENU. - Press F10 to save the options under the SIMSTAT.DEF file.
