Copy all files in this directory to a subdirectory of your computer hard drive to run MotelMAX. **************************** This file contains the information you need to start using the MotelMAX program. Much more detail is supplied in the user manual which you can view while using the program or which you might choose to print. This is a full functioning version of MotelMAX. It is not crippled, time-trapped or nobbled in any way. All data you enter into this evaluation version can be transferred to the registered version or to any later version of MotelMAX. This evaluation version supports up to fifty rooms. Other versions support more rooms and provide additional functions such as reservations and advance deposits depending on your needs. Refer to the file ORDER.DOC for registration and version details. When you become a registered user of MotelMAX, you will receive the latest version of the program with all shareware notices removed, a printed user manual and 90 days of free technical support. Also, your copy of MotelMAX will be personalized with your Property or Site Name (max 35 characters) which will appear on all invoices and reports. The registered version also has the ability to add new usernames and passwords and to limit a user's access to only certain portions of the program. MotelMAX comes preset with sample room set-ups and rate tables so you can get started right away. Appendix B of the user manual includes a brief tutorial and within a few minutes, you should be able to check-in guests and begin posting charges and payments to their folio. After you can configure MotelMAX to include your own rates and room set-ups. In this evaluation version, all users have access to all portions of the program. In the registered version, typically, you would limit access to accounting information only to certain users. This file is divided into the following sections: 1. Installation =============== 1.1 Make sure you are in the 'root' directory of your hard drive, type: CD \ 1.2 Make a directory on your hard drive called MotelMAX. MD MotelMAX 1.3 Move to the MotelMAX directory. CD MotelMAX 1.4 Copy the file MOTEL152.ZIP into the MotelMAX directory. If the file is on a floppy drive you would type: COPY A:MOTEL152.ZIP \MotelMAX If the MOTEL152.ZIP file is in another directory of your hard drive, for example, '\download' you would enter: COPY \download\MOTEL152.ZIP \MotelMAX 1.5 Unpack the MOTEL152.ZIP file by typing: PKUNZIP MOTEL152.ZIP You will notice that the MotelMAX program now uncrunches and installs in your MotelMAX Directory. When this is done, you can get rid of the install file on your hard drive (carefully) by entering this command: DEL MOTEL152.ZIP 2. Starting the MotelMAX Program - Username and Password ========================================================= Once the installation is complete. Start the program by entering the command: MotelMAX If you have a monochrome monitor, you can force MotelMAX to display in monochrome by entering the command: MotelMAX M The initial screen is the shareware sign-on screen. This screen can be exited by pressing the keys . You can also press to view a list of other versions of MotelMAX. Review the screen and if you choose to use MotelMAX please register and support the shareware concept. The shareware screen is not in the registered version of the program. MotelMAX will prompt you for a user name and a password. For your initial sign-on, type: Username...: MOTELMAX Password...: MOTELMAX This evaluation version has a few sample usernames. The registered version let's you create your own usernames and passwords. Also, each user you define can only access the parts of the program that you choose to permit, for example, check-in's / reservations, front desk, reports, file set-up's and accounting. 3. Packing List =============== If you receive the MotelMAX program from a bulletin board, the entire program and all files will be packed into a single file called MOTEL152.ZIP. Once you unpack the file MOTEL152.ZIP you should have the following files: README.1ST - this program file ORDER.DOC - registration / order form. VENDOR.DOC - vendor distribution information. FILE_ID.DIZ - BBS identification. MotelMAX.DOC - User Manual MotelMAX.EXE - MotelMAX Program files Motel1.MAX Motel2.MAX Motel3.MAX Sys.dbf - Data files Prnt.dbf Clr.dbf Usr.dbf Gnl.dbf Rtb.dbf Cnc.txt IMPORTANT - After you unpack these files, you should delete the file MOTEL152.ZIP to avoid unpacking the file a second time. The DOS delete command to accomplish this is: DEL MOTEL152.ZIP 4. Printing the MotelMAX User Manual ==================================== Once you complete the installation, you can print a copy of the MotelMAX User Manual (about 80 pages). The manual is in a file called MotelMAX.DOC. Print the file using the DOS print command: PRINT MotelMAX.DOC 5. MotelMAX - Misc ================== 5.1 Time Sensitive - MotelMAX is date and time sensitive so be sure your computer is set to the correct date and time. 5.2 Self-Maintaining - MotelMAX builds the files it needs. Some of these file structures are time based. Again, it is important for your computer to be set with the correct date and time. MotelMAX does a mini tune-up each time you close an account month. You can do the same thing any time by starting the program with the command: MOTELMAX NEW 5.3 Compatibility - All prior versions of MotelMAX are compatible with later versions of the program. Any data that you enter in version 1.52 can be used in later versions of the program. If you upgrade to another version of MotelMAX, with additional features, you can still re-use any information you have entered into the program. You will not have to re-key old set-up, rate or reservation data. 5.4 Printer Set-up - MotelMAX will print some reports in condensed or compress print mode. It needs to know what kind of printer you are using and the correct printer codes to make your printer work in compressed mode. If you have any trouble locating these codes, please contact us. We have printer codes for several hundred printers, too many to list here. Configuring MotelMAX for your printer is very simple, once you know the printer codes.
