HomeCraft's Small Business Journal (HSBJ) ADVERTISING RATE CARD #2 Effective October 1, 1992 HomeCraft's Small Business Journal provides a new medium to reach potential customers in a unique and attention-grabbing way. It allows you to place advertising on a menu or within articles in such a way that the reader can't miss your advertisement. And we'll work with you to place your ad within articles related to your products. Please note that all advertising rates quoted here cover two issues, the shareware issue and its associated non-shareware issue. To get the per-issue cost please divide the rates given below by two. (See the "Special Offer" information below). Four forms of advertising are available. 1 - Ads placed within articles 2 - Graphic images displayed using a menu option. 3- Text files displayed using a menu option. 4- Classified ads SPECIAL OFFER: Please note that every other issue of the HSBJ will be released as shareware. When you purchase an ad in any shareware issue you will receive a free ad of the same type and using the same copy in the following issue. (There is no discount should you not wish to run the second ad). In addition, should a special issue of the HSBJ be released all advertisers in the previous issue will get free ads in the special issue. DISCOUNTS: A 10% discount applies to contracts for ads in three or more consecutive shareware issues. We do not offer agency discounts at this time. CIRCULATION: Every other issue of the HSBJ will be distributed as shareware and thus it is difficult to estimate the circulation. Each shareware issue will be mailed to a minimum of 600 BBSs and disk vendors, assuring the widest possible distribution. The reaction to the release of the first issue has been tremendous. Within the two weeks after we mailed the disk to BBSs and vendors we have already started to receive responses to our ads and registrations for the HSBJ. Keep in mind that, unlike printed magazines, the shareware version of HSBJ will stay in circulation forever - putting your ad in front of potential customers on a continuing basis. NOTE: These advertising rates are our introductory rates. They will be increasing in the future. If you purchase your ad now, you will be able to lock in the introductory rate for the duration of your contract - up to one year! ADVERTISING WITHIN ARTICLES + Text Advertisements Within Articles We've designed this type of ad to be similar to printed magazine ads. As you read through an article in a printed magazine, some of the pages contain advertising. There are two available forms of this type of ad: 1) Your ad can remain on the lower seven lines of the screen while four or more pages of the article are being displayed. 2) Your ad can be placed in the midst of the text, and scroll along with the text, of the article. Copy for both forms of text advertisements must be supplied to us on disk. The first form of a text ad can have up to six 80 character lines of information. When displayed, the ad is seven lines long, but the top line is always reserved as a header to indicate that the information is an advertisement and is not part of the article. This type of ad may only contain ASCII characters - no graphics can be included. This type of ad will be displayed at the bottom of the screen while the article scrolls through the upper portion of the screen. The per issue cost is: $35.00 The second form of a text ad consists of ten 74 character lines. This form of a text ad must have a box around it, thus the total size of the ad will be 12 lines by 80 characters. This type of ad may only contain ASCII characters - graphics can not be included. (The extended ASCII characters can be included in any text ad). The per issue cost is: $30.00 + Graphics Advertisements Within Articles The HSBJ offers full screen graphics advertising within articles and the letters section. The full screen ad must be a single PCX image. It can be placed at any location within the article (Subject to editorial limitations). The graphics screen will be displayed until the user pushes a key. The per issue cost for a full screen graphics ad within an article is: $125.00 GRAPHICS IMAGES DISPLAYED FROM THE MENU Up to three PCX graphics images can be a part of a single ad. The rates for this type of ad are based on the number of images used. Each image will remain on the screen for an amount of time you can specify or can include a "push any key to continue" prompt. Single Image $70.00 Two Images $90.00 Three Images $100.00 ASCII TEXT FILE ADVERTISING Advertising in the form of ASCII text files may be placed on the HSBJ menu. Advertisements using this format must be identified as an advertisement on the opening screen. ASCII text ads may be up to 50K in size. In effect, you can write your own "article" and speak directly to readers to tell them about your company, what you offer, and why they should do business with you. The rate for ASCII text ads is: $10 per 1K with a minimum charge of $50.00. We have the right to limit the number of ASCII text ads included in any one issue on a first-come first-served basis. GRAPHICS ADVERTISING ON THE FRONT AND BACK COVER A single graphics screen advertisement may be included with the opening screens that are displayed when the HSBJ software is started. It will be displayed for a maximum of 20 seconds (though the reader may clear it from the screen by pushing a key). The rate for either the front or back cover is: $175 CLASSIFIED ADVERTISING Classified ads will be grouped together in a separate section. Each must be ASCII text containing up to five lines of 35 characters each. Each classified ad costs $5.00. Multiple ads may be purchased to create larger classified ads. GRAPHICS REQUIREMENTS The HSBJ uses 640 X 350 PCX graphic images. We feel this provides the widest possible distribution while presenting a high quality image. Please note that the HSBJ can be read on computers that have no graphics capability. This means that graphics screens will not be displayed, but readers will still be able to read the text ads and articles. A combination of a graphics ad and a text ad will present your product in the best light and ensure that the widest possible audience sees your ad.
