Perhaps someone can straighten out a few of the misnomers regarding
C-net. I've asked many C-net sysops, many questions because I can't
find any of technical aspects explained anywhere. I'm NOT yet running
C-net so I do NOT need info on HOW to do the things I've listed below,
just a YES/NO/TRUE/FALSE (+ brief comments if needed). Perhaps some
of the SysOps I've talked to were running old versions of C-net and
many things have improved since then. Good/bad rumors abound.

UL/DL files:
 1) No short file lists can display the YEAR, but only date/month. A
file from last Dec VS this Feb will both show "NO YEAR". Files from
 01-Dec-88 89 90 91 will all appear as 01-Dec?

 2) No more of 300 files can appear in any 1 file area. (This is a
biggie.) (I have 3,000 online now with Paragon and several 1000 more
planned. Paragon allows 65536 per area, or 40*65,536=2,621,440.)

 4) All files must be packed into 6 dirs. (Difficult w/5000 files)

 3) All files must be packed into 1 dir. (Very difficult w/5000 files)

 5) Viewing inside archives requires you rename LZ, LHARC, LHUNARC, ZIP,
UNZIP, ARC, ZOO, ZOOV, ZIPPY, BOOZ, OOZ to certain filenames that
many already exist on your system causing conflicts.

Menus:
 6) If you have a menu cmd W and WH, either will always execute just W.
Instead of W runs W. WH runs WH. (I don't really understand this 1.)

 7) You can alias a menu cmd. Q same as O. But you can't REMOVE/REPLACE
a key cmd. Impossible: O removed, now does nothing. Q now Quits.

 8) You can only add a max of 3 new cmds to a menu. (This is a biggy)

 9) You can only add certain menu cmds to certain menu types. You
can't place any menu cmd anywhere you want.

Misc:
 10) C-net needs AUX: named AUX:. It can't be renamed. If you were
already using AUX: for another purpose, you can't do so now.

 11) A caller can NOT decide whether or not he wants screen clear
codes sent. He gets them regardless of his desires.

 12) C-net's author is always running a version 1-5 updates newer
than is available to folks that purchased it.

Msg areas:

 13) No more than 300 msgs can appear in any 1 msg area. (I have
22,000 msgs online with Paragon, and the limit is 65536 per area,
 or 128*65,536=8,388,608 total.)

 14) No form of msg networking (Fido/NetMail/UseNet/PCrelay) is directly
supported. It can be "forced as an afterthought" via arexx and doors
 only.

I had hoped Ken himself would address these items. But anyone that is
a very experience C-net SysOp and can accurately, positively set these
questions to rest, my also reply. Hopefully those that have worked
with C-net's menu/arexx/scripts heavily for several years will reply.
Please do NOT reply with things you "THINK" are allowed/restricted. I
don't wish to further the spread of misinformation regarding C-net.

I do NOT wish to criticize C-net. I (and 100s of other non-cnet sysops)
do need tough, straight, accurate answers to many tough questions.
