Update of the Macros of PasTeX

The contents of the three disks ATeXLib1_3, ATeXLib2_3 and ATeXLib3_3 are
the actual versions of TeX/LaTeX (on 25.7.93) and some extensions. To make
the installation easier I've changed some of the files (and deleted some
other), but You will find the original distributions on the same disk. YOU
ARE ALLOWED TO SPREAD THE CHANGED FILES ONLY WITH THE ORIGINALS. You can
recognize the originals by the ending "_o.lha". The file script.lha is an
original and could be spread. You've got much more than the installed
stuff, look into the archives.

If You are using the installation script You'll be asked if You want the
german stuff. If You say "y" you get a bilingual version of TeX. To switch
to german hyphenation pattern simply set the \language counter to \german
(or 1). If You include the german.sty this will be done automatic.

To use the new formats You have to change the environment variable
TEXFORMAT to `tex', `latex' or `slitex' (what You need) or You simple type

virtex &latex foo.tex

at Your shell prompt (Yes, I know, foo.tex is not in the distribution).

The complete installation needs about 1.2MB free disk space (macros and
documentation), however, you may never want the `script' document family
because it comes only with a german documentation (Hey, You speak german
and english! Why don't You translate it and send it to me!). The directory
TeX:macros is not supported after the installation, You can delete it. With
the new macros the documentation of PasTeX can't be recompiled (Georg
Hessmann has used the `nice' package). Make a backup and reinstall the
stuff You need.

Contents of the Disks

ATeXLib1_3 contains plain TeX and LaTeX as described in

   D. E. Knuth: The TeXbook and
   L. Lamport: LaTeX - A Document Preparation System
   (both published by Addison-Wesley)

Also a DinA4 and DinA5 style for non american paper sizes and an iso8859-1
style (written by me) to support the Amiga character set are included. This
three styles coming without any documentation and You can spread them as
You want.

ATeXLib2_3 is the home of the german stuff. As well You will find the
extension of the array, tabular, multicol, theorem and verbatim
environment. To use the original distribution of these five You need the
doc style which You find here. Note that if You want to use the script
family You find here, You've got only a german documentation. However, the
family is most compatible to the LaTeX ones. Try them (and note: book and
report <-> script, article <-> script_s, letter <-> script_l, they are
using A4 paper size). To make it easier for You I've included the
documentation. If You don't know what You need You can have a look into the
doc first.

ATeXLib3_3 contains the "New Font Selection Scheme" (NFSS). This new font
selection should be standard in the next LaTeX version (coming soon). An
english documentation is included. As I've heard the two books of H. Kopka
are translated. The german books described this (and some of the styles
above but not script).

Installation

Under WB2.0 or higher click on the icon Install.english. With the old
system You have to do it by hand.

All distributions are in archives of lha. Lha comes with the first disk. To
install the complete package You have to unpack stdtex.lha, array.lha,
mzstyles.lha, doc.lha and nfss.lha. The documentation is in
documentation.lha and script is in script.lha. To install the archives the
following call is recommended:

   lha -E -x -a -m x stdtex.lha TeX:inputs/

(this will install plain TeX, LaTeX and the tree styles described above in
TeX:inputs). The macros will be in subdirectories so You have to change
the search path of TeX. For PasTeX this is be done in the Files You find in
ATeXLib1_3 in the directory config, copy them to TeX:config. If You make
Your own configuration use the same search sequence so You can use the
files in ATeXLib1_3:formats (which You should copy to TeX:formats). If You
call

  initex latex.initex

in the directory TeX:formats You get a preformat latex.fmt. If You have
installed the NFSS it will use it.

If You are in trouble look into the install script or into the configs.
