Identification of Unknown Samples\Several known samples of radioisotopes are supplied and there are five unknown samples. Identify the unknown samples by comparing them with the known samples.\
Radioisotopes emit gamma rays with distinctive energies. By comparing the energies of the gamma rays of an unknown sample to the energies from a known sample the isotope can be identified.\To read the labels on the radioisotope samples position the hand on the sample and press the right mouse button. To measure the energy spectrum of a radioisotope take a sample off the shelf open the lead container and remove the sample bottle. Take the sample to the scintillation counter on the right of the screen. Place the sample into the counting chamber. Set the count timer with the arrows and press start to begin the count. The scale of the count window can be adjusted with the arrows to the left and bottom of the screen.\Measure the energy of each gamma peak and record these values. Compare the values of the unknown samples to those of the known samples.
