QUICK GUIDE to AM (AMIGA MAIL)

AM --- AmigaMail
(C) 1991 by Christian Riede

AM is distributed in the hope that it will be useful, but WITHOUT ANY
WARRANTY. No author or distributor accepts responsibility to anyone for
the consequences of using it or for whether it serves any particular
purpose or works at all, unless he says so in writing. Refer to the GNU
General Public License, Version 1, for full details.

Everyone is granted permission to copy, modify and redistribute AM, but
only under the conditions described in the GNU General Public License,
Version 1. A copy of this license is supposed to have been given to you
along with AM so you can know your rights and responsi- bilities. It
should be in a file named COPYING. Among other things, the copyright
notice and this notice must be preserved on all copies.

Please note that AM V1.10 is still beta! Do not use it unless you are able
to read C-Code and familiar with some internals of AmigaUUCP(+). Wait for
the first final release that will come out really soon now!

For installation of AM see file AM.tex

Start AM:
  - from CLI without parameters (Username is taken from the environment
variables USERNAME) or with Username as first parameter and config filename
as optional second parameter
  - or from Workbench after setting USERNAME and optional CONFIG tooltypes.
When started from Workbench, AM will take the username from the Tool Type
USERNAME, if present, otherwise from the environment-variable USERNAME.

The realname will be extracted from GETTY:passwd (if no entry exists, AM
won't come up)

When an errror occurs during startup, a requester will pop up telling the
reason. If the intuition.library couldn't be opened this will be reported
on stdout. When started from WB, stdout can be set by a tooltype WINDOW:
	WINDOW=con:100/100/400/200/AM

Read Mail by just double clicking the line.

Quit AM by clicking the close gadget. After clicking it, it may last a
while until the AM vanishes. Don't worry, AM is saving.

AM uses a new mail storing scheme. Mails are put each into a seperate file
with a unique number as filename in a directory UUMAIL:<username>.mail .
This is done by the sendmail-frontend. In these directories a
contents-file is maintained. If for some reason the contents file should
be corrupt (remember that the format of the contents file may differ
slightly between different versions of AM!), just run makecontents.
Attention: This will mark all mail as old/read.

Please let me know of any problems!
