The break up of Direct Software has lead on to new things for a few of the
people who ran it. From what I have heard several of them have gone on and
formed a new company called Alive MediaSoft. Alive have some big plans for the
Amiga market, some of which are outlined below.
As well as continuing the development of their own game 'The Haunted' Alive will
also be continuing the port of the massive adventure game 'Phantasmogoria'.
On top of this they also plan convert and release some of the top PC games
including Doom 1&2 and Dark Forces. This games will apparantly run on special
emulators which will be programmed for each game. This brings me on to wonder
if the games are actually being re-written or if the emulator just converts the
PC/MAC code to run on the Amiga. After all the Quake nonsence I find it hard to
believe that 'ID Software' would allow a port of Doom, although I'd be happy to
be proved wrong.
Even if the fact that we will get Doom 1&2 does seem a bit far fetched, it has
got to be considered excellent news. And although Direct Software did not have
a trouble free time, I'm hopeful that things will change with Alive
Mediasoft.
I will hopefully have more news for you on this exciting subject in the future,
I'm sorry if I sound a little pesimistic about this but personally I'd need to
see the actual programs before I believe they actually exist.
