They were extracted from his excellent jch_c64.zip file. For further information on these tunes, please consult that package. **** LOTS of THANX to Kristoffer Johansson for converting JCH's comments to STIL format!!!!!! /Jch/2cVee.sid COMMENT: Experimental tune with music in 2 voices and 9 sfx in the third voice. This was the first time I ever did this. /Jch/42nd_Street.sid COMMENT: A very weird tune with a very weird ending. After I named the tune "42nd Street" I played it in a driver on the C64 which could display the time - and to my surprise it lasted exactly 42 seconds! Hmmm... anybody read "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy"? Well, I haven't! ;) /Jch/Accident.sid COMMENT: Cooperation between Morten Sigaard Kristensen and I. The bass was taken from a pophit and I made the rest on top of it. /Jch/Acid_1988.sid COMMENT: Made in 1988 but packed and released several years later. /Jch/Ages.sid COMMENT: It was one of the first tunes I entirely made on the keyboard before bonging it into the editor. Normally, most music was composed directly on the computer without the aid of a synthesizer keyboard. /Jch/Batman_long.sid COMMENT: One of the most popular tunes I ever made. I remember I was not very satisfied with the Prince tune on the film which was one of the reasons why I did my own version of it. /Jch/Batman_short.sid COMMENT: Shorter version of the popular Batman tune without the slow part in the beginning. See "Batman_long.sid" for more information. /Jch/Beatbassie.sid COMMENT: An introtune which became very popular. /Jch/Beaty_intro.sid COMMENT: This was in fact a song I "heard" while I was asleep and dreaming. When I woke up I quickly ran over to my Amiga and typed in the notes. /Jch/better.sid COMMENT: My first ever digi tune I've ever composed. (No, I never tried the "Rock Monitor" or any other editor before this!) /Jch/Bill_Bass.sid COMMENT: "Drax" did most of the work composing the bass, drums and chords and I did the leader. /Jch/Birthday.sid COMMENT: A birthday song made for the Jewels demogroup - or was it the group living close to Jewels? Never mind. They were celebrating their group and wanted such a tune. However, I am not sure if the birthday tune in the beginning is a danish song. /Jch/Bonus_Game.sid COMMENT: Four tunes in this one - (1) is bonus ready, (2) is bonus goal and (3) is bonus over, all jingles. (4) is the actual bonus game track. /Jch/Bonzai_3.sid COMMENT: After trying to make the SID-chip say "Triangle" I tried to make it say "Bonzai". Not my most successful speech emulation to date. /Jch/Brown_Ice.sid TITLE: Brown Eyes ARTIST: Art Garfunkel /Jch/Brubaker.sid COMMENT: [This] was made for an adventure game ordered by a german demogroup. I also made a lot of sfx for the game which was never finished - a destiny most of the games I made music for suffered from. /Jch/Cant_stop.sid COMMENT: An introtune which became very popular in the United States. /Jch/Carcrash.sid COMMENT: The name refers to the ring modulation effect which sounds like a car screeching to its doom. /Jch/Casio.sid COMMENT: [This] tune composed on a little Casio plastic keyboard I once played around with. /Jch/Cause_I_Love_Her_So.sid COMMENT: A worktune where I imagine the words above "sung" to the notes from 14-30 seconds of play. Notice that that part from 00:30 was in fact extracted to form the release song "Real Shit", found elsewhere. /Jch/Caveman.sid COMMENT: Another cooperation between Morten Sigaard Kristensen and I. /Jch/Chord_1.sid COMMENT: Tune using only two voices. /Jch/Chordian.sid COMMENT: This tune was sent to a guy in England who promised to use it in a game with credits by Vibrants. However, it seems as if he liked it soo much that he put his very own credits on the game... (Ed.) The game is named Stack Up (1991 by Zeppelin Games) and the guy is Gerard 'Gez' Gourley/Sonic Graffity. /Jch/congrat.sid COMMENT: The end-of-game congratulations tune. /Jch/Coops_ups.sid COMMENT: Here Morten Sigaard Kristensen managed to make most of the tune and then "invited" me to do the solo in the end of it. /Jch/Cotune_2.sid COMMENT: A cooperation tune "Drax" and I tried to do. He did the bass, drums and chords and I tried to do the leader. I soon ran out of inspiration and the tune was never finished. /Jch/Craptune.sid COMMENT: Made while showing how to use the editor. /Jch/Crowdnoise.sid COMMENT: The last sound I ever did on the C64, made July 1992. At that time I had been away from the C64 for months, playing around with the PC - however, a guy in "Pretzel Logic" said he needed a crowdnoise effect, so I did it. The demo he worked on was AFAIK never released. /Jch/Dandelion.sid COMMENT: This was a tune I thought up on the job (I'm a mailman). As soon as I came home I ran to my computer and typed it in. /Jch/Darkness.sid COMMENT: The last song I did in the old player system. Also the only one not composed in Aegis Sonix, it was done in Sound Tracker on Amiga - yes, one of the first versions from Karten Obarski. It was still converted using the same awkward system though. /Jch/Dark_Lord.sid COMMENT: Probably the only tune I ever did in three-four time. /Jch/Demogame_example.sid TITLE: Get Ready (#1) TITLE: Game Over (#2) TITLE: Player explodes (#3) TITLE: Congratulations/Title (#4) TITLE: In-Game (#5) COMMENT: This block was made as the first of seven planned leveltunes. It was ordered by a guy in "Bonzai", shortly after I met "Trap" of "Bonzai" for the first time. This was the second attempt after the "Golddigger" project. The game was never finished. /Jch/Diflexing.sid COMMENT: Made at Jewels' place. I tried to emulate the style of Diflex as heard in his "Strike Force" tunes. /Jch/Dont_be_sad.sid COMMENT: The first 30 seconds was "inspired" by an Amiga song I found in a new tracker on that computer. /Jch/Double_speed.sid COMMENT: This is the only tune not made in v17.Q0. It was made in v9 in 1989, some time before Jeroen Tel made his first quatro-tune for "Invest". However, the idea was not new at that time. In the mid-eighties Tony Crowther experimented with quatro players in games such as "Zig Zag". This double speed tune used the ordinary v9 player and was simply called twice a frame. /Jch/Easy_does_it.sid COMMENT: Notice how I put real synthesizer chords into the digi voice. That was not done very often on the Commodore 64 - musicians normally used this channel for bass and drums only. The tune makes extensive use of ring modulation and hard sync. This piece was in fact used in a "Pretzel Logic" demo - as far as I know this was the only digi tune that was ever used. /Jch/Farting.sid COMMENT: Thrown together in a few minutes to show a friend how to use the editor. /Jch/Feel_it.sid COMMENT: Another tune that was packed and released at a much later date. /Jch/Fiasko_2.sid COMMENT: This was in fact the first suggestion to the "Oswald" game. I played the tune to the programmer and graphician of the game but they didn't like it. They loved the next attempt however, which is the music you can hear on the game today! :) /Jch/Five_minutes.sid COMMENT: As the name suggests it was done in a hurry on Aegis Sonix. /Jch/Fooled.sid COMMENT: Introtune made in an experimental player called "Intro Player". The player took very little rastertime but suffered under too many compromises. I only made this tune in that player. /Jch/Forever_cry.sid COMMENT: Made almost entirely by myself with a few ideas thrown in by one of my friends who called himself "The Saint". /Jch/Funk_Level.sid COMMENT: A funky piece using four-fingered chords, something that I rarely used on the C64. The EOLM tune is very short. /Jch/g_after.sid #3 TITLE: Do the Locomotion ARTIST: Kylie Minogue COMMENT: This and the next block contains all five leveltunes crammed together in one single block. Notice (3) in the block which is a conversion of the music "Do the Locomotion" - I thought it would be a nice touch to such a train game. However, the boss back at SilverRock thought they might get in trouble if I converted it. I tried to tell them that loads of trials had been lost from real musicians who tried to sue C64 musicians, but they wouldn't listen, so... /Jch/g_before.sid COMMENT: ...this is how it was changed to make the boss happy. As you can hear the difference is really not that big! ;) Later on during the programming of the game, Thomas realized that he could not fit all the leveltunes into the game, hence this leveltune was the first to go. /Jch/George_Carl.sid COMMENT: A long tune containing three completely different parts. The slow introduction changes at 01:19 to a part which was played by the clown George Carl during his shows. Here I tried to emulate a real mouth organ using ring modulation. /Jch/Giv_it_Up.sid COMMENT: Funny tune with a ring modulation experiment. If you listen closely, you can hear it say "Give it up" - I thought it would be a nice touch while shooting down enemies in the game! The ring modulation effects appears from 00:16. /Jch/Glider_Pilot.sid COMMENT: This was a conversion from an old C64 game of the same name. The composition was very nice but used horribly raw sounds. I converted the tune and it was used in the demo that won the C64 demo competition at the Randers copy-party. /Jch/Going_up.sid COMMENT: A short introtune. I later made a better arrangement on the keyboard using the leader from 00:15. /Jch/Golddigger_Game.sid TITLE: Hiscore (#1) TITLE: Space Bonus (#2) TITLE: Bouncy Bonus (#3) TITLE: Breakout Bonus (#4) TITLE: Title Screen (#5) TITLE: Game Over (#6) TITLE: Get Ready (#7) COMMENT: This was the first real game-music project I did. Somewhere in the other end of Denmark an entusiastic guy wanted to establish a new software house - to help getting this organized, he collected a few interesting people in the scene for a meeting in a big room somewhere in Jutland. Here the future plans for the firm which was named "The Electronic Generation" was discussed. I met "Link" for the first time and introduced the editor to him - he became the first person to use it (other than myself of course!). The first game that "TEG" wanted to code was a "Boulder Dash" clone called "Golddigger". Being beginners as we were, "Link" and I decided to split the work into doing half of the tunes each. As soon as we got home and did the work, we never heard from this "firm" again. All this was made in april 1989. Considering the quality of other composers at that time, these tunes were easily forgotten. /Jch/Guitaring.sid COMMENT: On the real C64 I used filtering on the leader to emulate a real guitar. The EOLM tune is a very funny "major" version. Imagine a funny monster which looks like a clown! ;) That tune is a conversion of a song which my brother and I used to hum when we were kids... /Jch/Gunfight.sid COMMENT: I managed to code a complete Gunfight game in 1987-1988 - you know, the stuff with two gunfighters in each side of the screen shooting each other until one of them enters "BOOT HILL". This tune was made in "Aegis Sonix" - the only tune to be converted using the old method into Laxity's player. /Jch/Hacktrick.sid COMMENT: My friend, "The Saint", hummed the bassline and I made all the rest. /Jch/Hard_On.sid COMMENT: The first song done in a player featuring "Hard restart" - so as you see, the name is not as naughty as you might think! ;) /Jch/Hawaii.sid COMMENT: A very long tune containing one of the longest solo parts I have ever done in a tune. The bassline and drums were originally made by Morten Sigaard Kristensen, but in the end I "raped" it so much that it virtually became my own work. The solo part starts at 01:39. Notice how the tune decays in the end - this was very unusual for a C64 song in general. /Jch/Heavy_Hit.sid COMMENT: Short, "end-of-level-monster"-like tune made in a compromise player which took VERY little rastertime. /Jch/Guldkornekspressen_Hi_Title.sid TITLE: Hiscore (#1) TITLE: Title Screen (#2) COMMENT: Contains the hiscore tune (which uses filter in all three voices at the same time - rather unusual) and the titletune. The title- tune took a long time to convert to the Amiga, yet the coders on the Amiga version only found room for the simple hiscore tune, totally discarding the title tune. Grrmbllfll! :) The hiscore was a simple idea from the keyboard. /Jch/Guldkornekspressen_Jingles.sid TITLE: Get Ready (#1) TITLE: Game Over (#2) TITLE: Reach Startpoint (#3) TITLE: Reach Destination (#4) TITLE: Forgot some goldcorn (#5) TITLE: Remembered all goldcorn (#6) TITLE: Loose a train (#7) TITLE: Chain onto wagon (#8) TITLE: Super train jingle (#9) COMMENT: All the jingles for the game in a seperate block. /Jch/Hexagon_Party.sid COMMENT: Made FOR that party, not AT it. The tune contains quite a lot of harmonic mistakes, something I often made in that period. These were often caused by "lazy" transpositions of the bassline sequence - instead of creating a new one. /Jch/Hitsong.sid COMMENT: Converted from a sample on a very old Amiga intro by ECA. /Jch/Hollywood.sid COMMENT: A sad "she-is-dead" film-like tune. /Jch/Hoppin.sid COMMENT: An excerpt from "Sampler #1" - a very fast introtune. /Jch/Horizon_Copy-Party.sid COMMENT: Made at the Horizon copy-party in Sweden. /Jch/Hugo_Title.sid TITLE: Hugo Rap Theme ARTIST: COMMENT: A professional software house in Denmark called "SilverRock" gained a lot of success with "Hugo" in danish television. This troll could be controlled in a game using telephone buttons! A very new concept which soon became enormously popular. During the success of the troll, a real musician produced a CD containing a rap hit where Hugo was singing using the typical voice which was also used in the game. As the game was converted for sales versions from the Amiga to PC and C64, I did the C64 song converted from the danish rap hit. I didn't have a PC back then, so I had nothing to do with the PC version. /Jch/Hurricane.sid COMMENT: Experimental tune testing the speed changing abilities of the new player v18. The change happens at 00:15. /Jch/Illegal_Man.sid COMMENT: After the music group "20CC" had been in the demo scene for some time a sourcecode was hacked and spread on the american BBS. I managed to get a version of this sourcecode - and tried to fiddle with it. This is what came out of it. It was composed in assembler and really "begins" after 15 seconds. /Jch/Introzak.sid COMMENT: Very short introtune made for an intro by "2000 AD". /Jch/Imagination.sid COMMENT: The second tune made in the NewPlayer v00 series, no effects in the player. /Jch/James_Bond_theme.sid TITLE: James Bond Theme ARTIST: Monty Norman and John Barry COMMENT: Conversion of a 007 theme found on a CD containing James Bond synthesizer conversions by "A Close Call". /Jch/Jewels.sid TITLE: ARTIST: Nik Kershaw COMMENT: Conversion of an old Nik Kershaw song. The first version of the player to feature slide. Many of the tunes in this period didn't use any slide at all. /Jch/Kinetic.sid TITLE: Kinetic ARTIST: Nightlight/Kefrens COMMENT: Conversion of a ProTracker tune on the Amiga, composed by Nightlight of Kefrens. /Jch/Knackdick.sid COMMENT: The only real cooperation tune released by Drax and I. I must admit however, that Drax made about 85% of the tune! ;) /Jch/L_l_l.sid COMMENT: The first tune made in Laxity's. Not 100% my own composition since I left parts of the instruments and bassline intact. The name was to be short of "Laxity..." something. I can't remember the rest anymore! ;) /Jch/Labyrint.sid COMMENT: A television quiz program which was made popular by a great danish former disc-jockey Kim Schumacher was converted by a small danish firm as a C64 game. The music was composed on the amiga by an unknown guy. "Drax" was asked to convert the tune for a certain sum of money but, as he said himself, he wasn't sure he could convert it so he asked me for help. I completed the conversion for the ridiculous sum of money - later, "Drax" admitted that he didn't complete the conversion because he thought the original amiga music was boring. I must confess that he has a point there! :) /Jch/Lady_Lisa.sid COMMENT: This tune was composed and then put on ice, only to be packed and released at a much later date. /Jch/Last_one.sid COMMENT: The last tune I made in Laxity's player until Laxity told me to beat it. /Jch/Laxin.sid COMMENT: Laxity made a very nice panflute in one of his songs. In fact, it was so nice that I accidently "copied" it. :) /Jch/Leech.sid COMMENT: Named so because I was using my modem a lot on the C64 at that time. /Jch/Little_Test.sid COMMENT: The second tune I did after "Better late than never". Most samples were sampled from the Korg M1 using Commodore's own hardware sampler that plugged into the cartridge port. Note that this digitune uses filtered hihats in the SID voices. This was also uncommon since the filtering was normally used to control the volume of the digi voice. The music also makes VERY extensive use of ring modulation and hard synchronization. /Jch/Lonewolf.sid COMMENT: The only tune made in the compromise player v07. The player was too awkward to use any further. /Jch/Mad4.sid COMMENT: Maduplec of "BUDS", a very prominent coder in the demo scene became quite an alrounder in the later C64 days. Making close to everything himself he painted the graphics, coded, composed and even made a music-editor with his own player. He sent me a version of it to me for testing, and this is the result. The player takes very little rastertime. I remember that when I sent him the tune he told me it was "typically me". /Jch/Maduplec3.sid COMMENT: It is a slow tune - today, I actually thinks it sounds best if you play it a FOUR times the speed in SidPlay instead of the usual TWO! ;) It has nothing to do with "Maduplec" from "Buds" other than the name. /Jch/Maniac_Mansion.sid TITLE: Maniac Mansion ARTIST: Chris Grigg & David Lawrence COMMENT: I was impressed with the titletune on "Maniac Mansion", an adventure game by LucasFilm (That was years before they changed their name to LucasArts). However, the instruments were rubbish so I did my very own version of it. At a silent part in the end of the tune I even added a few notes of my own. /Jch/Martin_4.sid COMMENT: Apart from using the drumset from the "Batman"-tune, I experimented with the puls Martin Galway made in the "Rambo" highscore tune. /Jch/Mayday_v3.sid TITLE: Stranded in Iowa ARTIST: Manfred Mann COMMENT: Actually parts of the song was inspired by an old Manfred Mann song called "Stranded in Iowa". /Jch/Memory_I.sid COMMENT: Even though it was composed in the same month as where the editor was finished, it was put on ice only to be properly packed and released some years later. /Jch/Michelle.sid COMMENT: Another two-in-one tune, one of the better of that period. /Jch/Misjudge.sid COMMENT: The second of the three tunes I did in the compromise player v19 which takes very little rastertime. /Jch/Modemtrading.sid COMMENT: A silly little song I did in my modem trading days. If you listen carefully you can hear that I made a telephone ringing followed by a modem connecting! :) /Jch/Moonlight.sid COMMENT: This is the very first song I ever composed. It happened on Aegis Sonix on the Amiga. I remember I was very proud - today, I wonder why... /Jch/Multivoice_2.sid COMMENT: Here I experimented with the idea of using arpeggio to simulate a lot of voices. /Jch/Narrow_plus.sid COMMENT: Another introtune using Laxity's panflute instrument. /Jch/Need_you_tonight.sid TITLE: Need You Tonight ARTIST: INXS COMMENT: Conversion of the old Inxs hit. Later in 1989 I made another attempt because the demogroup Jewels wanted a better conversion. /Jch/Need_You_Tonight_89.sid TITLE: Need You Tonight ARTIST: INXS COMMENT: The second conversion I did of this tune, ordered by "Excell" from the demogroup "Jewels" as payment for giving me a great sequencepacker. He didn't like the conversion at first, but he later admitted that it kinda grew on him. I put a lot of work into making the conversion accurate. /Jch/Nilfisk.sid COMMENT: Yes - the noise you hear from the ring modulation in the beginning of the tune resembles IMHO a vacuum cleaner! ;) /Jch/Ninjackie.sid COMMENT: Either this one or "Maniaxion" (I can't remember which) was used on the titlescreen of a game by Domark. /Jch/No_birthday.sid COMMENT: Shorter version of "Birthday" without the silly birthday song in the beginning. /Jch/Nonsense.sid COMMENT: I remember I was very disappointed with this tune - I wanted it to be big and bombastic, but I couldn't make it "big" enough. I wanted billions of voices and better instruments. Especially those cymbal crashes bugged me. /Jch/Ode_to_JO.sid COMMENT: Made after I heard one of JO's terrific "hard restart" songs. I was impressed with the way his ADSR worked on his chord sounds, and I tried to do the same thing. However, I didn't really know what it was until JO told me how it was done. I then implemented it from player v11. /Jch/Ode_to_the_64.sid COMMENT: I tried to make a tune like Rob Hubbard's "One Man and his Droid", but the result was not too brilliant. /Jch/Orcus_Demo_Hiscore_Title.sid TITLE: In-game demo tune (#1) TITLE: Hiscore (#2) TITLE: Title (#3) COMMENT: The music block for the main game program - (1) is the in-game demonstration tune, (2) is the hiscore and (3) is the title. /Jch/Orcus_Intro.sid COMMENT: Both this tune and the loader music reuses notes which I originally composed in the titletune for the game. At the time of doing the music for the game, I thought it would be a nice touch if a main theme could be heard throughout the game - just like on the movies! :) /Jch/Orcus_Loader.sid COMMENT: A very weird theme for the tape loader - it uses parts of the same composition as the titletune uses. /Jch/Orcushion.sid COMMENT: In-game tune. /Jch/Orion_Copy-Party.sid COMMENT: Ha, this makes me recall memories of a catastrophic trip to southern Germany. I was sick yet I was persuaded into driving to this place together with the rest of Jewels - although I recovered during the very long trip through Germany, the copy-party was cancelled when we finally got there. :( /Jch/Oswald.sid COMMENT: Before inventing "Hugo" for television, SilverRock Productions actually had a little success with its predecessor, "Oswald", which was also controlled using an ordinary telephone. Anyway, on the C64 version of the original amiga game I had to compose my very own piece of music since the game didn't really have any music at all. I made two tries, both present in this package. The first ("Fiasko_2.sid") was trashed while the second made the programmer and graphician go completely wild. /Jch/Ouw_Alien.sid COMMENT: Notice how the alien "talks" in the end-of-level-monster tune. /Jch/Paw_music_v2.sid COMMENT: An introtune. The part from 00:20 was really a small excerpt from "Alpha Centauri". /Jch/Perplex.sid TITLE: Get Ready (#1) TITLE: Game Over (#2) TITLE: In-game 4+ (#3) TITLE: Monster 4+ (#4) COMMENT: This is only a fragment of the music for the game "Perplex". In the beginning "Drax" did the soundtrack for the game while I made the sfx. At some time during the production of the music, "Drax" thought he could use some help and I agreed to do some of the music. The part here contains my contributions to the game. While the music and sfx was done in 1990, the game was put on ice by the austrian guys as they became tired of it. Some years later they revived the project, finished it, and sold it to a german software house under the new name, "Hermetic". /Jch/Pheric.sid COMMENT: A tune using filtering in two voices which was very special. Normally only one voice uses filtering. The tune was packed and released at a much later date. /Jch/Pitfight.sid TITLE: Bonus (#1) TITLE: Ingame (#2) COMMENT: One of the last game projects I worked on. Through the member in Scotland, "Deek", I made contact with a guy who managed to get me a few orders from the software house "Domark". This music was ordered for "Pitfight". It was probably in 1991 - I remember I made an extra effort out of squeezing as many chords and effects into the two voices of the in-game tune to make it sound like many more voices. /Jch/Pit_Pot.sid TITLE: Pit Pot ARTIST: COMMENT: Conversion from a game cartridge on the 8-bit SEGA. Sometimes it was difficult to hear all the details which made me go for certain compromises - something I was too weak to handle at that time... /Jch/Playertest.sid COMMENT: As the name suggests a test of the miscellaneous functions in the new player v20, like speed- and puls programming test. This tune was of course never spread. /Jch/Police.sid COMMENT: Another old tune put on ice only to be released much later. It was composed in a very fast speed setting. /Jch/Popcorn.sid TITLE: Popcorn ARTIST: Gershon Kingsley COMMENT: A remix made out of my own mind. And then not quite - the part in the middle (01:33) was inspired by "Trollie Wallie" from Interceptor Software. /Jch/Problems.sid COMMENT: Last experiment in the v00 series without effects. /Jch/Pseudo.sid COMMENT: Made in the "Oswald" period. If you load this block into the editor you will find three additional jingles. /Jch/Push-It_intro.sid COMMENT: The danish demogroup "Jewels" also fiddled with a puzzle game, called "Push-It". This is the intro tune, one of my favourite tunes from the C64 period. It uses a double voice drum and was heavily inspired by the music on "Task III", a game featuring music by a guy I never quite identified. This tune is well worth checking out if I may say so. As far as the game concerns - do I really have to say that it wasn't finished? /Jch/Push-It_main.sid TITLE: Game Over (#1) TITLE: Hiscore (#2) TITLE: Ingame (#3) TITLE: Get Ready (#4) TITLE: Title Screen (#5) COMMENT: Here's the main music block for "Push-It", the puzzle game. It was made in november 1989. /Jch/Quick_Blast.sid COMMENT: One of the better tunes of that period - also one of the first tunes to contain the typical "Hubbard"-snare which was a mixture of noise and triangle, swapped at each frame. /Jch/Rain_Funk.sid COMMENT: Released in a demo at the Randers copy-party, the very best C64 party there ever was. I remember I was proud because I got the idea of using filtered noise as rain before Tim Follin used it in his "Ghosts'n Ghouls". /Jch/Real_Good.sid COMMENT: Named so because I liked the result when I made it in 1988/1989. I remember I was so disappointed when I learned that "Einstein" of "Upfront" didn't like it - he was supposed to use it in a demopart. /Jch/Real_shit.sid COMMENT: Actually extracted from a worktune called "Cause I Love Her So". I liked the start of the worktune but I thought this part didn't really belong so I extracted it to form a seperate song and made a lot of fast solo's on top of it. /Jch/Revenge.sid COMMENT: Here I deliberately tried to put together a lot of chords in a song that shifts in and out of the minor and major scales. /Jch/Revolutionary.sid COMMENT: This was the first tune done in the editor which was spread, hence the name. /Jch/Sampler_1.sid COMMENT: Contains four tunes. One of the tunes was extracted to form the single tune "Hoppin'". /Jch/Sandy.sid COMMENT: Now this is quite interesting. Here you can see what happens if you assign the chords, drums and basses to all three voices in such a way that making a leader to it is virtually impossible. If you listen closely (and see in the editor), you can see that I only had a little "hole" for 3-4 notes after every chord stroke. No wonder I didn't finish this tune... /Jch/Scanliner.sid COMMENT: First tune done in the compromise player v19. As mentioned before, this player has no vibrato routine at all. /Jch/Schh.sid COMMENT: Made in anger because of one of my friends always hissing me down whenever I made too much noise. /Jch/Secret_Land.sid TITLE: Secret Land ARTIST: Sandra COMMENT: Conversion of a hitsong from Sandra. I put a lot of work into making the conversion accurate. Made just before the party in Slagelse. /Jch/Shadow_Sun.sid COMMENT: This was one of the last tunes I composed in an assembler listing. My editor was almost complete and after trying it, I never wanted to compose in assembler again. /Jch/Sharks_game.sid COMMENT: The only real gametrack, it contains 4 tunes. It was ordered by a german democoder, but was never used. /Jch/Shes_Just_a_Maniac.sid COMMENT: A tune where I tried to emulate the style of Maniacs of Noise. As the title suggests, parts of the notes matches the words so you can actually sing the title to it. Try it after 9-12 seconds of play! :) /Jch/Shift.sid COMMENT: A worktune that wasn't finished. Due to the fact that we have reached 1991, my Korg M1 was a reality. This tune was totally composed on the keyboard first, apart from the digi voice which was added later using the editor alone. The digi voice doesn't appear until 01:16 - it was supposed to be a "surprise" tune! This was also the last digital tune I did - and as far as I can remember, the very last C64 tune as well. /Jch/Shitmusic.sid COMMENT: Only spread to complete the collection... (Adrk!) /Jch/Short_n_Sad.sid COMMENT: Made in player v01 - the player now contained an arpeggio table routine for the drums. /Jch/Shorty.sid COMMENT: Very short introtune made for a Dominators intro I coded myself. /Jch/Simple_tune.sid COMMENT: This was the first tune I did in my own player after leaving Laxity's player. There are absolutely no effects other than pure notes in this song. /Jch/Slapbass.sid COMMENT: A long tune based on a slapbass. The result doesn't really sound like a slapbass, but I couldn't get any closer at the time. Some years later, a dutch guy proved that by using the $51 waveform, you COULD get quite close indeed! /Jch/Song_made_in_monitor.sid COMMENT: The only tune I ever did in a machinecode monitor. I knew that Laxity made all his music this way and I wanted to try it out. Although I managed to compose a tune I didn't like the method at all. /Jch/Spaceport.sid TITLE: Space Port ARTIST: COMMENT: Conversion from the titletune of an old "reLINE" game on the Amiga - one of my friends asked me if I would convert it. /Jch/Speedy_Gun.sid COMMENT: Made upon the dream of coding a racing game viewed from the side. Remember the old Star Wars movie "The Empire Strikes Back", where the Millenium Falcon closes in to the camera while dodging a meteor in the asteroid belt - from the side? Well, I wanted to make a game like this only with a speedy car. Need- less to say I never came around to actually coding it. ;) Looking back, I reckon it wouldn't have been possible anyway. /Jch/Strike_Force.sid TITLE: Strike Force introtune ARTIST: Diflex COMMENT: Conversion of the old Strike Force introtune - originally composed by "Diflex". I tried to be fair to the atmosphere of the original introtune. /Jch/Stylish.sid COMMENT: Another demotune for "Upfront". /Jch/Su-Sweet.sid TITLE: Intro/Title (#1) TITLE: Made It (#2) TITLE: Get Ready (#3) TITLE: Game Over (#4) TITLE: Well Done (#5) TITLE: Ingame 1 (#6) TITLE: Ingame 2 (#7) TITLE: Ingame 3 (#8) COMMENT: Speaking of puzzle games, the german software house "Double Density" was a master at releasing such games. One of them was the game "Su-Sweet". I was contacted and asked to do the soundtrack within a tight deadline. This is the music for the game - it was done in march 1991. /Jch/Sweet_2.sid COMMENT: One of the tunes I really should have completed. /Jch/Tecnetium.sid TITLE: Title Screen (#1) TITLE: Congratulations (Hiscore) (#2) ARTIST: Cliff Richard COMMENT: I always get mixed feelings when I play this music. The title- tune is long and I put a lot of work into it in april 1989, but today I can hear loads of harmonic errors here and there! :) The game was done for a sideways shoot'em up which a couple of totally unknown danish guys was making. You will also find a few jingles and a little in-game tune in the version for the emulator. The hiscore theme was a conversion of the old Cliff Richard hit "Congratulations" done right out my head. I always wanted to make such a hiscore tune, because I always thought Rob Hubbard made a mistake when he made "sad" hiscore tunes. You made it to the HISCORE for crying out loud! This only happens if you made a score that was bigger than the scores on the list - it's supposed to be a HAPPY thing! :) /Jch/Termianal.sid COMMENT: A short cooperation between Morten Sigaard Kristensen and I. As usual he did the bass and drums and I did the leader and chords. /Jch/Terrible.sid COMMENT: Test done in the compromise player v19.G1 which has no vibrato routine at all. /Jch/Test_3.sid COMMENT: Three seconds of test! :) /Jch/Test_02_1.sid COMMENT: The first tune made in player v04 using the editor that didn't use sequences. /Jch/Test_03_1.sid COMMENT: Another tune in v04. /Jch/Test_04_3.sid COMMENT: The last tune I did in player v04 for the sequence-less editor. This tune was very interesting due to the fact that I actually composed the chords on a keyboard, something that was very unusual to me at that period. /Jch/Test_05_1.sid COMMENT: The first tune in player v05.01 using the improved "pile" editor with sequences. /Jch/Test_07_1.sid COMMENT: The tunes in player v05.01 became longer and longer... /Jch/Test_08_1.sid COMMENT: Last tune in player v05.01 that is imcompatible with the editor v3.04. /Jch/Test_10_2.sid COMMENT: This was later packed and spread as "Memory I". /Jch/Test_11_1.sid COMMENT: Finetune test where two of the voices are phased together. /Jch/Test_12_2.sid COMMENT: Last tune in the "Test"-series. I tried to make it title-like. /Jch/Test_Tunie.sid COMMENT: Extensive test of player v18.G1 to check the integrity of the player. Listen to it for the effects rather than the music... /Jch/Training.sid COMMENT: One of the first songs where I used a double voice drum. /Jch/Trapped.sid COMMENT: This tune was originally made for a demo by "Trap" of "Bonzai". The melodic change at 02:55 was later extracted to form its own tune called "Carcrash". /Jch/Triangle1.sid COMMENT: Attempt at making the SID chip say "Triangle" using ring modulation in three voices. Judge by yourself if you think I succeded! ;) There are three attempts in all. /Jch/Tuned_in.sid COMMENT: The first player v01 with a few decent effects. If you listen closely you can hear that it is the tune "Problems" with better instruments. /Jch/Typhus_1.sid COMMENT: This is the only tune I did in Future Composer, made at the Dexion copy-party in 1988, the same party where I was told by Laxity to keep my hands off his player. The Future Composer was a hack editor on Charles Deenen's player and it arrived at this party for the first time. I tried it out once - and never touched it again. "Typhus" was the name of the german guy who also ordered the "Sharks" music in the old player. /Jch/Voices_1-3_of_6.sid COMMENT: During my time of composing music I managed to own a C64 and a C128 at the same time. Naturally I just had to try the old experiment where both computers are playing, echo detuning the music. This gave me the idea of composing three voices on each computer to make 6 voices of C64 music. This is the bass and drums part. /Jch/Voices_4-6_of_6.sid COMMENT: This is the chords part of the 6-voice experiment. /Jch/Volvulus.sid COMMENT: There are solo's in it where I actually tried to put a little "feeling" into it with different ADSR settings - like velocity on a real MIDI keyboard! /Jch/Weird_One.sid COMMENT: My first attempt at making an "end-of-level-monster"-ditty. /Jch/Weirdo.sid COMMENT: A "neverending" tune where the tracks does not have the same length. The two chord voices are therefore misaligned every time the tune restarts. /Jch/Westend_Girls.sid TITLE: West End Girls ARTIST: Pet Shop Boys /Jch/Who_said_Fred_Grey.sid COMMENT: Very funny tune where I tried to emulate the weird "pulsating" Fred Grey used to have in his tunes where the puls was changed for each note but not during the note. As to whether I managed to match his style or not - well, judge for yourself! :) /Jch/Wizax_demo.sid COMMENT: Wizax demo. The first tune to use the "testbit-noise" technique which locks and unlocks the noise in such a way that the noise waveform sounds more metallic. However, I later discovered that this worked differently from C64 to C64. On some C64, I had to lock the waveform with $F0, where other versions required $F8 to achieve the same effect. /Jch/X-Ray.sid COMMENT: A trick introtune based on the idea of having a simple long filter tone in very short intro's on the C64. I got this idea of playing such a tone for some minutes, suddenly surprising everyone with a piece of music! /Jch/Yoko_Tsuno.sid COMMENT: Has nothing to do with the cartoon character by Roger Leloup as such, only that I was quite fond of that cartoon at that time. /Jch/Zippy_Race_Traverse_USA.sid TITLE: Zippy (Traverse USA) ARTIST: COMMENT: Conversion of the music from the arcade game of the same name. It was also known as "Traverse USA". I happened to own an arcade machine hooked up to an Amiga monitor, and this was one of the "cards" I had.
