Subject: Interview
Hi - Here is the interview. Sorry the answers are not very long but i have little time at the moment.
Allister: Hi Basically i compose or convert music and create sound effects for computer games. I work on all the various format such as PC, Playstation, SNES, MD & Amiga. I have also started to create my own CD music. I`ve made one CD so far called "Sounds Digital". You can order this from my Web site and i`m working on another right now called "Bang Tick Tick"
Luca: All amigans know about your work with old Team 17. We would like to know where are Rico Holmes and Andreas Tadic.
Allister: Andreas and Rico and working for Team 17. They have just finished the game "PROJECT X2" for the Sony Playstation. Rico now lives in Sweden along with Andreas.
Luca: Now some technical questions. What sort of machine do you use to compose your musics?
Allister: I still use the Amiga 1200 at times - often Octamed with MIDI especially when i have to convert other peoples tunes to the computer, but most of the time - due to the high speed of PC`s i use a P133 with CUBASE.
Luca: Do you use audio-samplers? MIDI instruments?
Allister: Yes i use both. For Amiga games i use Audio Engineer but otherwize i use "Cool Edit" on the PC - the program used to create the "Doom" sound effects. For CD audio i have a very good sampler built into my main synthesiser, the Kurzweil K2000. For PC games i use MIDI instruments for my Soundblaster AWE32 card.
Luca: If i'm not wrong, you produced an audio CD full of your musics. If so, how can it be orderd and how does it cost?
Allister: Send 12.50 (UK pounds) to the following address ...
Allister Brimble Hill House Lapford Crediton Devon EX17 6QE EnglandPlease send a cheque (Euro Cheque or bank cheque) and remember to give me your address to send the CD to ! (Yes some people have forgotten !!)
Luca: Now you are a freelancer musicican. One of your last creations on Amiga were musics for ZEEWOLF 2. How have you been contacted by Binary A.?
Allister: I noticed Binary Assylums advert in Amiga Format and sent them a Fax asking if they`d like any computer music. On the strength of the Team 17 work they asked me to do Zeewolf 1 & 2. BTW I have always been freelance !
Luca: Have you worked on others games?
Allister: Yes, many ! A full list is available on my web site... HTTP://OURWORLD.COMPUSERVE.COM/HOMEPAGES/ALLISTER_BRIMBLE
Luca: What are you working on now?
Allister: I`ve just done Bubble Bobble 2 for the Playstation and also helped out with the Monster Trucks music on Playstation. I also did XCOM UFO Enemy unknown for the Playstation.
Luca: Some projects on Amiga too?
Allister: Most well known amiga games are Goal, Lionking, Colonization, Subwars.
Luca: What do you think about current Amiga situation?
Allister: It is a shame that the Amiga is no longer the main machine. If the Amiga had advanced at the same speed as PC`s it would be a far greater machine than any PC yet made. Unfortuneately Intel and Microsoft are too big to compete with so we`re stuck with the PC now.
Luca: What do you think about the time when you worked with Rico & Andreas?
Allister: It was great fun. Everything was new for me then. Full Contact, PX and Alien Breed were the first big games i`d every worked on.
Luca: Will be possible ,for all amigans, seeing a new game by the original Team?
Allister: Almost certainly no. There is no money in Amiga games any longer and Rico & Andreas have to make a living !
Luca: Some suggestions for all games musicians.
Allister: Make the first 30 seconds of your Title tunes the best parts ! Most people press fire to start the game within this time ! Do not Make ingame music too tuneful. Stay away from strong leed lines. You do not want the music to detract from gameplay. Also make the sound effects your main priority. Sound effects really add to the game play.
Well. Thanks Allister. Hoping to HEAR something from you in the future!
Bye.
