REAL 3D VERSION 3.5
INFORMATION
The now released version 3.5 continues the dynamic development of Real 3D. New and existing features offer almost unlimited possibilities to design three dimensional models, to visualise them, and to experiment with different materials and lighting effects. Real 3D version 3.5 provides the artist with an extensive set of tools to produce high quality animations and still images with an astounding level of realism.
Many improvements throughout the program make modelling and animation easier and more productive than ever before:
OpenGL support makes wireframe rendering and drawing of shaded objects possible almost in real time. With the support of Video for Windows animation format, it is possible to transfer an animation made by Real 3D for example to a multimedia show. New material attributes, self-illumination-, reflected- and transparency colours, allow interesting new shading effects. A new logo tool makes creation of impressive 3D logo images for www pages etc. strikingly easy. Skeleton control functions have been developed further, so that character animations can now be created fluently. Almost 400 new high quality textures give many choices when texturing materials.
A SUMMARY of NEW FEATURES and IMPROVEMENTS in REAL 3D V3.5
- Support for OpenGL: wireframe rendering, shaded rendering, double buffering flat and smooth shading. adjustable tessellation density. (Windows version)
Collision detection improved: faster and more accurate.
Forward Kinematics implemented: This function rotates the selected joint about its previous joint.
Skeletons improved: Torsion control (rotation around the bone) added.
Inverse Kinematics improved
B-Spline phantom points visualised
Modify/Freeform/Move Knot Point improved: meshes are drawn accurately during modifications.
Lens flares improved: better quality and additional support for animated random streaks.
Glow improved: V.3.5 Glow post effect allows the user to define a global glow color in addition to the object color specific glow. The glow size range has been extended.
New material attributes added:
- Ambient R, G, B: a self-illumination
color for the material.
- Reflected (R, G, B): defines the filter color for the reflected light.
For example, a nearly black sphere like a bowling ball, could not reflect
light since it was black. by adjusting the "Reflected R,G,B"
setting, an object can now reflect light of a user defined color.
- Redefine filtered (R, G, B): Similar as above, except that this
color is used to filter the light which penetrates the target object
View window title bar now shows VLock, HLock status.
Video For Windows support added (Windows version)
Interactive rotate, scale and pan view through right mouse button implemented.
B-Spline wire frame rendering improved
- Thick curves option (Windows version)
- User definable control polygon color.
Grids improved: dynamically re-sized grids for fast drawing of grids which always fill the view window.
Wire frame rendering when modifying objects via multiple sub-groups improved
Color window improved (Windows versions): A click on the Color patch now opens the Color Dialog. Color window shows the current color when opened.
Color attributes in all dialogs are now visualised (Windows version)
Animation frame base index added
Auto indexing of selected objects in rename
View Control and Camera Control now automatically show the settings of the last activated view window.
Font handling improved for the Select window (Windows version)
JPEG quality control added
Mouse movements are always sent to the window in which the mouse button was pressed and held down. This allows the entire screen to be used for rotating, panning etc.
Windows NT 4.0 compatible
New RPL words implemented
Modify/Freeform/Auto Concatenate: a feature that makes concatenation of several lines into a single line quick and easy. Especially useful when importing DXF files.
The active view window refreshes before any other view (Windows version)

Distribution media is now CD with hundreds of megabytes of high quality textures, demo animations, useful examples and other support material. (Windows version)
