Has anyone got some JWindows code that I can refer to that
brings up a window with a button in it and when pressed up
pops a second window independent of the first or something
simular to this?

I seem to be having problems when I close the second window
with the close window gadget it keeps crashing my system and
I not sure what the problem is :(

Hellow folx!

I dont get any messages from this list anymore are you guy's so good that
you dont need any help or is it the Olympics that keep ya guys away??

Well, some of you might remember my question abouth puting 2 sceens beside
eacother and that dosent work, but i got some different answers and someone
said that the logo should be a Bob, but to get the bob to scroll over the
whole screen nicely i need to use double buffer and that slows down the code
to much so i can't do that, So i am wondering if some of you can write a
example of how i should go by blitter or copper the logo part over the other
stuff part and erases the other stuff on its way over the screen??

Why not use a 64*256 pixels wide 16 cols sprite for the logo, as most of
the people like to do for such fashions ;-)

And I'd like to remind you of the fabulous Protracker replaying and
scrambling commands of AMCAF, which will play all protracker music modules
just perfectly %-}

Giday Guys & Gals,

Can someone explain to me a simple way to save something like a password
with a program. The program will already be assembled, and will need to
be able to change the password from inside the program. Is there
somepossible way to do this?

Any replies most welcome

Also... I would like some beta testers for a program that will be finished
soon. I won't give any details yet, but if interested please reply here
as well.

Thanks in advance,
Benj Crowl

Im Chipy from Germany. I've got the adress to this mailing list from Andy
Church. I use Amos Pro 2.0 since over 3 or 4 years. At this time I work on a
Space Game called Liberty Force. I want to add AGA Pictures (if possible AGA
Bobs/Sprites...) to the game. Do someone know something about an AGA Extension?
Or can you say me a hint to view at AGA pictures. Someone told me that I can
direct call the GFX Library, I try it but my AMIGA crashed and crashed again...

Can anybody help me?

cu

Hello!
Anyone who knows if there are any amos pro-extensions that support AGA.
I have also heard rumors that the newest Amos Pro release will support AGA.
Is this true and has it been released?

I am looking for a method for avoiding people to break out of a
AMOS-program of mine. It should not be possible to e.g. press CTRL-C
etc...

Does anyone how it is done ?

Thanks

Put a:

Break Off

in your code. This will stop CTRL-C from exitting your program.
Also, if you use the compiler:

Comp Test Off

Hope that's what you're looking for.

I will be on vacation the week of the 19th August. So, if you unsubscribe
or if there are problems, they probably will NOT be resolved until the
26th.

Enjoy the last of summer break!

I cannot help you with JWindow, but I can suggest you GuiExtension. It's
really very good, easy to use, bug-free and freeware!!

(yep, the author is paying me for this message!!)

Well, an AGA extension exists, but it isn't full-working and it isn't as

good
as it sounds. It can open *intuition* screen in AGA modes and not Amos
screens. I don't think it worths its price.

Oh, that's false. Probably there will never be a newer version of AmosPro.

A big Hello to all Amos Users out there!

I'm Chip-O-Joe and I'm new on this Amos List. At this time I programming a Space
Shoot'em'Up with cool 3D and 2D Sequenzes. AGA-Only (256 col. Pcitures + Anims +
EHB Game Sequenzes)!!! Next week the first Demoversion is avaible (I hope!). And
here's my first question. How can I clear Bitplan 1 from a screen. I use the
TurboExtensions Blit Clear Command, but it is too slow (altough it is very
fast). Any ideas?

You need a program to sample your sounds with your sampler: you can get it
from aminet or from any local bbs. In a second time you have to use the
SampleConverter Amos program to make an Amos bank with all your wanted
samples.

It's made in Amos, isn't it? Are you going to upload the demo version to
Aminet? Is it possible to get it via email?

Paul Reece's music extension handles samplers (I think).
Apart from that you could try
Do
 print Peek $BFE101
Loop

This should show the values from the serial port. Just check your manual
for the format of the Peek command, I'm not sure if I've gotten it right.
If you actually want to sample, then I suggest that you compile you
program to get it as quick as possible.

You missed a bit.. The port must be in input mode, so before doing tha=
t do
a poke $bfe301,255 (or is it poke $bfe301,0 ??) The poke is a bit patt=
ern
based on what bits you want for output and input.

Have funn. You could write a sampler to goto fast mem.. Loadsofmemory=

Does anyone know where to find an amospro-extension which can play
protracker modules (preferably version 3.15).
I've tried to convert to amos music-bank format, but that didn't work.
(some effects disappeared).
I've also tried the:
"track" -commands, "MED" -commands and the "ST" -commands. But with every
one of them some effects were missing when playing.

There is an amos program that converts Pro-tracker modules into amos
music banks, they can then be treated as an ordinary amos music file
which is far better than trying to play tracker modules.

A great hello to all Amos Users out there!

I'm Joe (you can call me Chip-O-Joe or Chipy!!) from Germany (Black Forest) and
I'm a big Amos fan (please forgive my english teacher when I make some
mistakes). First I want to tell you something about me. My first contact with
computers was (I think) 1986 or 1987. My father bought a Schneider PC and I was
very impressed. I was a little boy when a saw GW-Basic and so I began program
with GW Basic. 1988 I bought my own computer, it was an Amiga 500 with 1 MB Ram.
Later (1992) I want to programm, and I heard from all sides
what a great language Amos is. So I bought it. And i love it. Now
I'm using Amos with many extensions (Amcaf, Amips, Turbo....) on my new A1200
with 2xCD Rom and 10 MB Ram. And now I'm working on my first big game. I
call it 'Liberty Force', but perhaps the name will change. It's a shoot'em'up
with 2D and 3D Sequences. I want to make it to a great game and so I hope
the people on this list will help me with my problems. I made a little game
earlier called Danger Dogg. It's Shareware. In a few days (I hope 3 or 4) you
can download it from Aminet in the game/jump directory. I think it's a very good
jump'n'run (based on Dithell's Wonderland but much, much better).

But now...my first questions to Amos. I heard from an AGA Extension from F1
Licensware ( no bob/sprite support :-((( ) and from J-Windows. Anybody out there
who can me say something about? Is J-Windows better than AMIPS? What things can
you do with the AGA Extension?

Thanks.

cu Chipy/Fullspeed

Steve, the owner of F1 can tell you about the AGA Extension. His address is:

Steve@F1LW.demon.co.uk

He sometimes only reads mail on the weekends so a reply might take a few days.

Well, as you're a registered AMCAF User, there's a Blitter Clear command
aswell... you could try if it's any faster... dunno ;-)

Hello and welcome on the list!!

 > Anybody out there who can me say something about?

Well, AGA extension is not complete and it isn't as good as it could sound.
It gives you power on Aga intuition screens, but forget a game using it.
About J-Windows, I cannot tell you very much, but there are some users on

the
list who use it. BTW, according to me the best choiche is GuiExtension by
Ghizzoni: it's freeware and with no bugs at all (I'm not paid for it!).

Talking about GuiExt, be ready for a new version... (was it a secret?...
it's
not any more!!).

What's AMIPS?

It seems a message that I tried to send to the conan address bounced,
so I'll try it this way:

Michael, I made a translation of my GRAC 2 review. Could you tell the
readers of the Amos-list that they can get one if they send me an
email requesting it?

My address is u249026@vm.uci.kun.nl (valid through August 1996),
or undans@inlog.uci.kun.nl (valid from September 1996 onwards).

GRAC 2 -btw- is an authoring system for graphical adventures written
entirely in Amos Pro and distributed by F1 Licenseware.

Many thanks in advance,

Its a while since I last posted anything to this list, but I'm back!
and I've got a VERY VERY basic problem which is giving me sleepless
nights (well almost anyway).

I'm writing a game which involves the simple process of a
ball moving across the screen - In my game everything is done in
isometric 3D, but in the example enclosed its a simple 2x2 square
moving at constant speed across the screen.

If I make the ball travel at 50Hz everything is very smooth - great!
But, since the baulk of my code often takes about one Vbl, I decided
to make my animations run at 25Hz. However, when I do this, the
moving ball looks like 2 balls moving next to each other - if you
know what I mean?

Surely, it is easy to get round this "double ball" problem at 25Hz.

Please help!

Here's the raw text version if you dont like UUdecoding (but you'll
have to create a 2x2 square in bob image 1):

Rem START OF PROGRAM

'How shall we simulate the code within the main loop
'Type 1 - By a simple Wait Vbl (rough approximation)
'Type 2 - By a random wait between .5 and 1.5 Wait Vbl (more accurate)
' - However, this shows the animation to be jerky - I can handle
this TYPE=1 : Rem can change this to TYPE=2

Screen Open 0,320,256,16,Lowres : Curs Off : Flash Off
Colour 7,$FFF
Double Buffer
Autoback 1
Bob Update Off

Synchro Off
Channel 1 To Bob 1
Bob 1,0,0,1

Amal 1,"M 200,200,100;"

Amal On

If TYPE=2
    '*** get some speed info
    A=Timer+1
    Repeat : Until Timer=A
    'timer has just changed
    Add A,50
    SPEED=0 : Repeat : Inc SPEED : Until Timer=A
    '*** got some speed info
End If

Repeat
    '*** my code takes between half and one and a half VBLs to
    complete '*** next bit is to simulate the code If TYPE=1
        Wait Vbl
    Else
        CYCLES=(SPEED*(Rnd(2)+1))/100
        A=0 : Repeat : Inc A : Until A=CYCLES
    End If
    '*** end of code simulation

    Synchro
    Bob Update : Wait Vbl
Until Chanmv(1)=False

Rem END OF PROGRAM

Cheers,

Mark

I'm still here :). I have a 1200 and am working on my second project with
Amos Pro. I'm not worring about AGA mode right now, my machine kept
crashing for 4 hrs last night while trying to get the buggy graphics to
work, I've spent about 20 hrs on this project just getting a few things
to work....but I dont care what ppl say,"I still love AMOS!"

What did you call me out of my shell for?...:)

I've been doing some PC C++, and it sure makes you appreciate how sweet AMOS
is! PC hassles would fill a book ... and they HAVE! :-)

Hmmm. I don't know, but AMOS has lost all its charm for me after I stumbled
on yet another Lionet-like bug. I wiped it off my hard drive -- did I make a
backup..?? I can't remember. (That is a measure by itself :)) ).

>
>I've been doing some PC C++, and it sure makes you appreciate how sweet AMOS

*grunt*. Ok, if you push C++ really hard, you can obtain very nasty programs.
However, some things are infintely easier in C++ than in AMOS. Bottom line:
AMOS was, is, and ever will be a language dedicated to programming games or
'multimedia-esque' programs. C++ simply is focused on different programming
problems. (Also, PC hassles are not equal to C++ hassles).

Bottom line: if it were reliable, could be used on my system with >15 kHz
monitor, supported other hardware in a nice independent way, I'd reinstall
it. However, Lionet sacrificed compatibility for speed (sic!) and he payed
the price for it when the 1200 and 4000 were released (read the preview
article in the April 1990 issue of 'Amiga Computing' -- Intuition was termed
'slow' and 'sad', while using windows was 'AmigaBASIC-esque'. He also
claimed the editor is *fast*. I have never seen such a slow piece of
garbage, save for the AmigaBASIC editor. Even ed is better.).

'Nuf AMOS bashing :).

Has anyone ever programmed a nice MUD-like game in AMOS? I do not mean RPGs
like the one bundled with the Extras package of AMOS 1.2 and 1.3 (marvellous
piece of work, really), but one which can be programmed on the fly in a
special language? Things like Nightmare, Genesis, Kobra and Ancient Anguish
if you are 'in the know'.

>... This copy of GEdit has been unregistered for 71 days.

Err -- 71 days?? Isn't it time to upgrade the program? Or better yet, buy
the real version??

[code cut out]

I just had a glance at your code. Every time I use Amal, I get in trouble.
It doesn't complie too well, and when it does, the timings off.
I'd sugest replacing the amal stuff with actual bob move instructions
(perhaps make them procedures) and see if that fixes your problem.
If you want to try it out, use the mouse co-ordinates as the bob position
on the screen, and just move the mouse around the move the bob.

Yep.

No, I don't think it is.

My solution would be to move the ball at 50MHz and the code at 25MHz. Also,
you could use a sprite for the ball as it would be faster.

Anyway, to move the ball at 50MHz, use the Every commands.
eg.

Every 1 Proc _MOVEBALL
Every On

Repeat
   '
   ' ** Put your code here **
   '
	' You can't use Wait Vbl or Wait n when you're using Every
	' for some strange reason. The code below is to set the frame
	' rate to 25MHz.
   Repeat : Until Timer>1 : Timer=0
Until OVER

Every Off
End

Procedure _MOVEBALL
   Every On
   X=X+1:Y=Y+1
   Sprite 7,X Hard(X),Y Hard(Y),1
End Proc

I agree with that. Nothing like finishing a 10 page C++ program to find
suddenly a key element in the core is bad. So much for 'structured C'.

I would also agree with that (and vice-versa). Amos is more fun.

Ever try running Borland C++ on a 286 or 386, or word processing in 486
or pentium windowz (thougyh lately there have been improvements).

> 'Nuf AMOS bashing :).

Well maybe not yet. There is a huge something to be said for the learning
curve. In C++ it was a little faster. I did not expect the timing to
cause such huge problems. But I must say that once you realize it, you're
on your way. Also many of the commands do not work like magic. Youu have
to use them in the right place, right screen modes, trick them into
working...But I'm still learning, and I know I will write much in AMOS.

> Has anyone ever programmed a nice MUD-like game in AMOS? I do not mean RPGs

Ahhh...with Amos' port access, perhaps maybe an IRC sort of 'client' for
an RPG...I have been thinking about that. My current project is in the
infancy stages of a character generator/Serial device combat system.

IF ANYONE has info/ideas/programmodules to submit...i will welcome it!

That's what viscorp needs to do. Turn the Amiga into a net-RPG
machine...sound...animations...internet..all in one....<daydreaming>

What exactly do you mean... I'm using Amal in the Synchro Off mode
and so all the timing is up to me??? - is Amal alright in this mode?

> I'd sugest replacing the amal stuff with actual bob move instructions

I tried it on my sample program - but no difference :-(

Yeah, its a bit more sensible than a ball moving in a straight line -
agreed.

Cheers for your help - though it looks like the only way to get round
this is to make the ball go at 50Hz and leave the rest at 25Hz as
someone else suggested - this should work but I'm not happy with it
:-(

Cheers,

Mark

Hi All,

I sent this a little while ago, but it just got bumped back as undeliverable,
to re-sending:

Hi Everyone,

REQUIUM FOR CLUB USA
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some sad club news ... on July 15 Mark wrote the members of the AMOS Club USA
saying the disk mag club was done.  Memberships and submissions were dropping,
and he had no luck trying to purchase the Pro from Europress.
Starting in 90-91, Mark outlasted all the other clubs, including AMOSzine and
Whitby AMOS Club who are also no longer publishing but haven't yet officially
quit.  And he was a class act to the end, even sending refunds for the
remainders of the memberships.  The only other one to do that was the great
Brian Bell at Mr. AMOS Club.
Mark is still open to communication from AMOS users, and his e-address is:
MSchult@execpc.com   He sometimes gets behind on his mail so you may wait a
few days.
He hasn't said whether all past Club disks are now declared PD, the way
Totally AMOS announced when they quit.  I'll send him a note and find out.
And he has an AMOS library with 5 years' accumulations ... someone might want
to make him an offer for that.
Mark might post his own good-bye here too, but I wanted to as well.
You might like to post the e-addresses of the other hard-core AMOSers from the
club.
Thanks for hanging in there Mark (and publishing all my crap, er, stuff).
Showing that helped me get my second computer job.  If you ever get converted
to PC C++ let me know ... I'll try and clean your crappy code up for ya :-)
Here's a toast to the past, and may the wind always be at your back .........
-Chris.
Yup.  But it's nice to see him finally get into the big time.  PC World has a
full page add by Corel (the current Word Perfect owners and the Corel Draw
people) who are marketing Lionet's PC "Click and Play" program, still published
by Europress in small letters at the bottom.  The programming part is
minimized, and they are pushing instead the multimedia features.  A small area
tells developers what products are available.  But the price is a tad over what
AMOS ever was ... $479 US / about 300 UKP.
There's a UK kids computer show called Bad Influence that uses Easy AMOS
for the intro and end credit sequences.
Personally, I found Ted to be unbareably slow. I think the AMOSPro editor
is great - for editing AMOS programs. There are better text editors around
but they're all on the PC.
> Bottom line: AMOS 1.36, Compiler 1.36, AmosPro and xxx are too buggy,
True, but most of the bugs can be worked around. OK, so this is a pain, but
better than using anything else. The best thing about AMOS is it's ease of
use.
> and they are not working properly on an Amiga with a non-15 kHz monitor.
I'm not sure, but it isn't JUST AMOS that clashes with non-15kHz monitors.
The compilers are great - they do everything they claim!
I'm using isometric 3D and so the ball often goes behind other
objects - it must be a bob.
I think I need absolute control on when the ball is being moved since
I'm using all the manual settings such as Synchro off, Bob Update Off
and Autoback 1.
Well, I don't think it's totally right; You can make also great utils with
Amos. Have you heard about GuiExtension and GuiCompiler both by Ghizzoni?
But
it's not all: I made also a LOGO programming language in AmosPro and it's
used in some Italian schools.
Surely Amos misses a Intuition control, but you can get it with a lot of
extensions. Extension ability is great: why not to use it?
I LIKE THE AmosPro EDITOR! :-)))
Try using Amos The Creator for a while; then use AmosPro and you'll easily
realize how better it is.
Moreover folding procedures is one of the best thing of Amos editors: don't
you think so? What would you have wanted from a text editor?
These are the 'exceptions to the rule'. Some great games have been
programmed in C++, for instance. The most important features of AMOS are
still in the game or multimedia area. Lionet added enough features to make
AMOS usable for other things. However, considering the amount of bugs in
these ordinary things, they were clearly an afterthought. (Originally, AMOS
was to be sold as a 'games creator', like its predecessor STOS and its
postdecessor (right word??) Klick'n'Play.) AmosPro still doesn't compute
-2^3 correctly, does it? It's
these and other stupid errors which render AMOS unusable to me -- otherwise
I'd have written tons of scientific programs with it. Phase diagram
calculators, reaction equilibria, function plotters, fluid dynamics
programs. AMOS would be perfect for it.
Have you ever watched the 'Jeugdjournaal' on the Dutch television, by the
way? It is a news program for children aged 5-15, for whom the regular news
program is too difficult. They used AMOS to show the weather forecast.
Uh... yeah. I meant the control of AMOS itself lacks Intuition. Lionet has
done a thourough job of re-inventing the wheel, I've got to give him that.
Anyway, I have no doubts about the quality of the Intuition extensions, it's
just that it is rather silly to use a program of which the main part
(editor/debugger/DIRECT MODE!!!) will not show on my monitor.
I did. The AmosPro editor is indeed better, but I have not used it long
enough to learn all its features (both documented and undocumented :) ).
>Moreover folding procedures is one of the best thing of Amos editors: don't
>you think so? What would you have wanted from a text editor?
Amos 1.36 has the annoying habit of 'checking' the procedure before it folds
it. If you have a FOR without a NEXT, you're in trouble. This is highly
irritating -- the program tries to be too Big Brother-like
An editor should be intuitive. Have you ever used Borland's Pascal editor?
The one bundled with Pascal and C++ for DOS? It has a lousy menu structure,
but in terms of tabbing and automatic indenting it is one of the best I ever
used. GoldED is stuffed with features and far too large, but it is very
fast. Proged
or whatever (follow up of GoldED) promises much, but delivers little, and is
HORRIBLY slow when used with coloured keywords, even on my 4000/030+CV64.
Some basic algorithms are broken (brace matching), etc. Vi is a horror to
use and learn, but *once* you learn to use some of the more basic commands,
it becomes an all-round, always working friend.
It is really hard to tell what I would like in an editor. It is more of a
feeling, like 'Jesus, deep shit!' or 'Mwoah. Nice.' or 'Whoweee! If only for
that small annoying feature...'. Folding is far down on my list of features,
really. GoldED is my current best editor on the Amiga. On older Amigas I
prefer 'ted', which is the core of Blitz's editor. Ted was *very* fast,
unfortunately not bright when it came to tabbing, but it was small and reliable.
Bottom line: AMOS 1.36, Compiler 1.36, AmosPro and xxx are too buggy, and
they are not working properly on an Amiga with a non-15 kHz monitor. The
compilers promise much, but don't deliver. That renders them useless for my
purposes. Sad but true.
Err -- thats 7 games, 2 utilities, and 1 language. I guess this proves my
statement about AMOS being a games creator. Can I use Logo on my 4000 with
CV64, by the way?
Hi!
I've got some questions about AMOS 3D:
1) Anybody out there who know where I can get the AMOS 3D Extension?
2) Is the AMOS 3D Extension fast (on a 68020 with 2MB Chip+8 MB Fast)???
3) Can I use AMOS 3D in Amos Pro?
4) Can I mix AMOS 3D Objects with Amos Bobs/Sprites?
5) Can I use pictures as backgrounds?
6) Is there a better extension out there for making 3D in Amos??
Okay, that was it.
I dont know what you are talking about (just tested it to see)...talk
What undocumented features? Anyone...?
<Bunch of junk about how bad AMOS editor is>
My response: I have programmed hundreds of hours in C++ only to find
that I misspelled one small command somewhere that took me A LONG time to
find. Another feature of AMOS editor is it checks spelling...especially
when trying to assign variables...I really like that.
<bunch more junk>
My response: then what are you doing on this list?
I recently grabbed Kilk 'n' Play from Europress
(http://www.europress.co.uk/) and it SUCKS!  About the only thing that
I've evre seen written for it is a cheesy pong game that runs in a Win95
window!  Their Web Site leaves a lot to be desired, as well.  The demo
version is unusable (no Help files or Docs at all, from what I saw, and a
bad installer, too...you could tell it was written by Lionet).  The
archive is HUGE (1.2Meg, if I remember), and its editor is very
non-intuitive.
And to think the same guy wrote AMOS.  Well, enough Europress bashing.
How are youall doing?  8^)
It's been a long time since I've used interlace but I now remember what
it is that fixes it. Simply open a screen in front of the interlace screen
and then close it. This worked for me!
No, but there is a fix for it. I think you have to do a View or Screen Display
of some sort. Just experiment with these commands a bit (and maybe some other
similar Screen commands), after the Screen Open and it'll soon start
flickering again. :-)
There should be instructions in "Latest News" from the Help menu, that
explains how to install the 3D extension to AMOSPro.
> 3. [Tracker playing]
Can't help.
> 4. what's new with JWindows?? will it come out soon???
Here's what's new...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
JWindows extension v1.6.
    Icons
    An icon system, mimicking amos's own, has been introduced. Though not
as fast when icon masks are used, it's still pretty nippy, and is 100%
system friendly (which amos doesn't, and could never, acheive).
    Windows
    J Open Window now takes a string parameter for the title. It also allows
negative window dimensions to indicate absolute size (including borders).
    J Set Window Titles has become J Set Window Title and takes a string
parameter.
    Refresh mode removed. Handled internally. Hence J Start/End Refresh are
gone.
    The IDCMP_XXX equates have been renamed as Msg_Xxxx equates, properly
capitalised, rather than a block capital mess.
    Requesters
    J File Request$ has changed syntax (again). It takes a parameter for a
default pattern and file, and for various modes. NO TAGLIST!!
    Fixed silly bug in J File Request$. It doesn't crash now.
    J Screen Request no longer returns a tag list - it has a set of J Req XXX
commands to read the values.
    J Asl Version implemented. The version of asl required by the extension
has dropped from V38 to V36 (the one WB2.04 users have, though it's functions
are heavily reduced.
    Wait
    J Add Port, J Remove Port and J Clear Port List removed. These are all
handled internally.
    J (Un)Share Message Port removed. They were causing more hassle than they
are worth.
    J Wait Message no longer returns ghost messages - one's with return value
of 0, and no message connected.
    J Wait Message return value now means nothing, J Next Message return is
simply whether there was a message. J Get Message Port removed, since the user
never uses ports now.
    Many more messages are now internally handled - refresh window you will
never hear, graphic updating is done when a size change takes place, and
intuiticks messages requested by some gadgets are only passed on if you want
them.
    Screens
    J Open Screen now takes a string as the title.
    Corrected bug that caused screen to be unclosable in very low memory
situations.
    Gadgets
    Gadgets have been rewritten (again), so a new set of bugs will probably
appear. J Mx and J Cycle have their options created in a single string. Much
easier.
    Number gadget removed since Text gadget can easily display numbers via the
Str$ command and Number gadgets were restricted to integer positive numbers
(useless).
    J Text takes a string parameter instead of a static string for it's
contents.
    Extra parameters added to many gadgets, to further minimise tag usage.
    Gadget defaults have been greatly improved.
    J Set Gadget removed, replaced by the J Set XXXX set of gadget commands,
along with J Gadget Disable.
    J Gadget State$ added to get contents of string gadget.
    Corrected many bugs in the gadget tracking. It will still break if you
send silly values when creating or setting the gadget (not much I can do
about this).
    Edit list gadget added. Support commands also added - J Node Protect
and J Node Unprotect. Combined with the new J Quick List command, this makes
listviews incredibly powerful and ridiculously easy to use.
    Click on - click off buttons introduced by a laughably simple hack. Should
have thought of it ages ago.
    The J XXX Box set of commands have been modified - you now create them
as part of the current gadget list, rather than drawing them manually. This
allows me to deal with them getting blitzed when the window changes size.
    Bug from V1.5 fixed - the J XXX Box commands would crash on any pre-V39
system (Oooops...)
    Lists
    Lists, the last bastion of static strings, have been heavily rewritten so
that static strings are no longer required. Nodes can now be created with a
string for the name, which is tracked and modified internally. Alternatively
they can have a number as data, which can be very useful.
    J Node Up and J Node Down added, mainly for listview manipulation.
    J Quick List allows the creation of a whole list in one line. Useful for
creating listviews - they can now be done from scratch in two lines!
    J Node Protection added for handling editable listviews.
    Graphics
    J Grab (Aga) Palette removed for being shite.
    J Get Pen/Paper now work pre-V39. This was silly. Sorry.
    Graphics commands mimicing the AMOS commands introduced which work with
the GUIComp program.
    J Scroll introduced.
    Static Strings
    Totally obsolete and 100% removed. Good huh? The new system is also
much more memory efficient since obsolete strings don't build up in memory.
    Miscellaneous
    Removed many tag descriptions that should not be accessable.
    Fixed bug in J Open that occasionally caused garbage to be added to end of
name.
    Freeing commands no longer return a value. Also, they return an error if a
zero is passed (removed from V1.5 for technical reasons).
    The equates file has been revamped and massively cut dowm to an absolute
bear minimum. Please tell me any equates that I forgot to include - there will
invariably be some.
    Error checking has been introduced on the disk commands. The speed loss is
neglidgable, and it now means zero pointers don't crash, and also that errors
writing and reading are picked up (this was REALLY bad).
    Fixed many commands that were getting stuffed occasionally by AMOS's pissy
string handling system. Eg: J Open, J Add Path$, J Load File.
    Initialize mode totally removed, so the commands are gone.
    To Do
    Gadget data from the GUI creator should be in a bank. This will be done last, I'm afraid.
    Code for making gadgets should be a command                "
    The source generator should accept tags, such as different gadgets, screensizes, etc
    Save Iff is required.
    Convolve (image processing) command for really impressive, showy demos.
    Support for iconifying windows, dropping icons on them and stuff
    Disk icons should be supported.
    New gadget types:
        Colorwheel and gradient slider
            Actually, those will probably not be implemented due to problems:
                These gadgets aren't standard gadgets, and are hard to implement.
                They are only available in V39.
                They only look good on screens with many colours.
                They have an irritating habit of nicking colours and CHANGING THEM.
                    This makes them VERY complicated to use.
        File requester buttons
        Image buttons
        Border sliders - these probably won't have arrows due to technical problems....
        Progress display gadget would be good.
    Anim 5 animation support (easy)
    New Cli, Cli Print and End Cli commands for debugging
    Clip command
    Double buffering (for super windows and screens)
    Easy commands (easy view picture, etc)
        These should make writing simple applications very fast.
        For example: Complete AGA and HAM8 compatible picture viewer:
                Amos To Back
                Repeat
                    F$ = J File Request$( "Select a picture",0 ,0 )
                    If F$<>""
                        _SCREEN = J Easy Load Iff( F$ )
                        Wait 250
                        _SCREEN = J Close Screen( _SCREEN )
                    End If
                Until F$=""
                J Cleanup
        Easy enough? 10 lines - not bad huh?
        Any suggestions for 'Easy' commands (such as J Easy Load Iff) would be welcome.
        For example, this command opens an appropriate screen with no title bar, loads
            the picture to it, loads the palette (before the picture, actually), and
            returns the screen.
    A disable window command would be useful (equivalent to what asl requesters
        do when the sleep window tag is used).
    A system for breaking out of J Wait Message should be possible.
    Automatic gadget hotkey support.
    I could add WB1.3 support. I'm not going to since I fundamentally disagree
        with it's continued existance.
    Some window and screen tags should be patched so the user doesn't have to construct word
        arrays and similar rubbish. WA_Zoom, SA_Colors and SA_Colors32 are prime candidates.
    There should be a short form of J Asl Request.
    Work needs to be done to integrate the palette commands with a preference based
        pen system.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
> Well, this letter is a bit long,
Hmm, I seem to have made it much longer, but I think this list may be of
interest to some people.
Hi,
and again some questions.
Since I use Amos Pro on my Amiga 1200 I can't use Interlace. For example the
folowing programm:
Screen Open 0,320,512,2,Lowres+Laced : Curs off : Flash off : Cls 0
Palette 0,$FFF
Paper 0 : Pen 1
Locate 0,10
Print "Interlace Test"
Wait Key
Edit
On my A500 this programm works fine, but on my A1200, it doesn't flicker and
text is totally unreadable. Can you say me why???
Hi Ben!
I try your tricks with the Screen Commands. But they won't work. Another
informatione: If I want to use the Amos PRO Editor in Interlace mode the same
error occurs, and if I load some Interlace Pics, again the same bug.
For example:
Load Iff "Interlace-PIC",0
doesn't work right. I tried also to set some Screen Display Commands after, but
it helped nothing.
What I didn't understand. On my old A500 this all works without these silly
bugs? Have you, or somebody else, a idea how???
Hello!
Here is Chipy again to getting on your nervs. I use Workbench 3.1 on my A1200
with a Hires Mouse Pointer. But when I start Amos Pro, the Mousepointer changed
himself to a terrible looking Mouse Pointer (some graphic errors, but only the
mousepointer, nothing else!). But only on the Workbench. On AmosPro all is
right. I can use the WB Pointer. He only looks terrible. If I compile my
piece of code and switch to the WB Screen all is right? And when I use a Lores
Pointer and start Amos nothing happend with my Mousepointer. It's not so bad,
but I asked myself why this error occurs? Does anyone know?
Hellow!
Here is some more Questions i hope you guy's will help me out with:
1. I heared something abouth GUI Extension, is that able to show AGA??
   Well all i want in life is to be able to use 32 colours in Hires as
   easy as 16 colours.
   Can GUI Extension do that???
   Well if so then let me know where to get it, isent it freeware??
2. I  bought the Amos 3D coverdisk from Chris Evans and i want to use
   the Amos 3D on Amos Pro so i make sure to have c3D.lib and 3D.lib
   under APsystem drawer and then i write it in to line 4 as i should.
   But when i have reebooted and goes into Amos Pro and cliks on
   "About loaded extensions" and clik my way forwards, the square for
   the extension shows up and it stands Extension number 4 on the top
   of the square, but the white text idenefying the extension isent
   there and the 3D commands dosent work.
3. Oki here is also an another hard nut for you guy's to sharpen your
   brains on: I am having some problems with the player in Amos Pro
   (Amos Pro music extension v 2.0) many modules that plays nicely in
   Directory Opus for example, will not work properly in Amos Pro with
   the track load / track play commands.
   The Filter keeps turning on and off making the modules terrible to
   listen to and i have also tryed Led off and that dosent have any
   affect at all.
   So when i got Craft 2 i thought my problems would be over becoz i
   could use the St Load and St Play commands instead, but when i try
   the modules Amos Craft reeboots when it comes to the part where the
   filter turns itselves on so that seems useless.
   then we have the Amcaf extension that i have been thold that has a
   superb player rutine, but i am, in the Army and i dont have a cent
   left to pay for the registered version and sending a cheque so unless
   the coder of Amcaf reads this and feels sory for me and sends me the
   keyfile for free witch hardly will happen,so that leaves that out.
   Then the last solution is that you guy's know how to use the
   "replayer.library" to play the modules in Amos Pro instead of the
   built in player, I have been thold from a Blitz coder witch uses
   that Library to play the modules in his productions that it will
   play ALL Protracker modules PERFECTLY so if you know how to do that
   then PLEEZ help a me!!
4. what's new with JWindows?? will it come out soon???
Well, this letter is a bit long, but i hope ya guy's bother to read it
all and answer me if you got a solution to 1 or more of my Questions.
THANX!!
I use PAL Mode. The problem is that (I think) it opens only a Lores Screen and
then zoomed the original Pciture to this Screen, so all looks fine. But the
pixels are only 200 Pixels and not 512 Pixels height. Than, you can't read any
Yes, it starts to flicker, but when I print some text you can't read it, because
of the same error. It flickers, but not so like in DPaint or VieTek, when I load
a Interlace Pic.
If I disable the AGA Chipset with the Bootmenu or Killage, then it won't work,
too.
That's probably because WB has a software flicker fixer and AMOS doesn't.
There are a few floating about, but I can't remember where. Sorry! :-(
