Do not release demos as Shareware or Public Domain, do not make demos available to the Public, Magazines or Aminet, do not send review copies to consumer press and do not attempt to promote your title in any way.
If you have a web site for the title then only inform from a developers point of view, only use testers you know.
This all sounds a bit harsh but is very important if a commercial Publisher is to achieve maximum sales on the title. Vulcan have turned down many titles for Publishing simply because they have had prior publicity and only in remote cases do we entertain this.
A publisher is responsible for building a products identity and launching extensive publicity campaigns to achieve maximum awareness of the title on launch day. This ensures maximum impact with Magazine demos, reviews, work in progress, news, internet demos and ensuring that all Retailers and Wholesalers world-wide are aware of the title and are actually stocking it prior to it being launched. If demos and information appear prior to the title being commercially published then it damages the process, especially if the information with regards to the titles name, who to contact and price is false as it could change when being commercially published.
